haunted 🔮🕸️🕷️
pairing: tyler owen’s x f! girlfriend reader
summary: Tyler Owens and Y/N join their friends to explore a haunted sanatorium, but when eerie events escalate, Tyler refuses to let Y/N face the darkness alone, standing by her side as strange noises and shadowy figures turn their thrillseeking adventure into a chilling experience.
It was a crisp October night, and the air was thick with anticipation as Y/N, Tyler Owens, and their friends Boone, Kate, and Javi arrived at the abandoned sanatorium on the outskirts of town. The place had a dark reputation long-abandoned, it was rumored to be haunted by the restless spirits of its past patients. Local stories of shadows moving in empty hallways, whispers echoing through the rooms, and doors slamming shut on their own had drawn their group to the site for a Halloween dare.
Y/N wasn’t thrilled about this adventure, but her friends had been eager, and she didn’t want to be the one to back down. Tyler, however, had picked up on her nervousness the moment they pulled up outside the looming, crumbling structure.
As the group gathered their equipment from the back of the van, Tyler glanced over at Y/N, noticing the way she pulled her jacket tighter around herself. “You sure you’re up for this, darlin’?” he asked, his Southern drawl cutting through the chill in the air. His eyes held a softness, a mix of concern and warmth. It was the look that always made her feel like she was more than just a part of the group like she mattered to him in a way that went beyond their shared adventures.
Y/N forced a smile, adjusting her camera strap and trying to steady her nerves. “Yeah, I’m good. It’s just a bunch of old ghost stories, right? Nothing we haven’t faced before,” she said, trying to sound more confident than she felt.
Tyler chuckled, reaching out to brush a loose strand of hair behind her ear. The touch was brief, but it sent warmth coursing through her, grounding her against the chill that seemed to seep from the abandoned building in front of them. “Hey, if it gets too much, you just stick by me, alright? Ain’t no way I’m letting anything scare you off.”
Y/N rolled her eyes playfully, but the corners of her mouth quirked up at his words. “You better not run off and leave me to the ghosts, cowboy.”
He leaned closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “I’ll even let you hold my hand if it gets real spooky.”
She laughed, feeling a little lighter despite the nerves buzzing in her chest. For a moment, with Tyler’s steady presence next to her, the sanatorium didn’t seem quite so intimidating. But as they joined the rest of the crew Boone, Kate, and Javi who were already testing their EVP recorders and flashlights, the eerie atmosphere settled back over them like a heavy blanket.
The sanatorium’s front doors groaned as they pushed them open, revealing a long, dark corridor lined with dusty windows. Cold air rushed out to meet them, and their footsteps echoed in the empty lobby. Boone, always the thrill-seeker, led the way with a confident stride, while Kate followed closely behind, her camera already recording. Javi stuck to the rear, muttering about how this place gave him the creeps.
Tyler stayed close to Y/N, his flashlight sweeping across the broken tiles and faded wallpaper. He glanced at her whenever she jumped at a sudden noise or flinched at a gust of wind that rattled the windows, offering her reassuring smiles. And she was grateful for it, even though she tried to hide her nervousness behind a brave front.
They started their investigation in the main lobby, recording audio and taking photos, but it wasn’t long before things took a strange turn. Y/N swore she saw something moving just beyond the reach of her flashlight shadows slipping across the walls where there shouldn’t have been any. She spun around, her heart racing, but when she pointed it out to the group, no one else saw it.
“Relax, Y/N. It’s probably just your imagination,” Boone teased, flashing her a smirk. But Tyler caught the worry in her eyes, stepping a little closer to her as they continued exploring.
After a while, the group gathered in a hallway leading deeper into the building. The air seemed heavier there, colder, and the shadows seemed to stretch out longer. Boone, ever the daredevil, grinned at Y/N and then nudged her with his elbow. “Hey, Y/N, you wanna prove you’re not scared? How about a dare?” He gestured toward a dark corridor branching off to their right. “Go get some footage down there, alone. It’s the hotspot, they say.”
Y/N hesitated, glancing down the pitch-black hallway. Her nerves prickled, every instinct telling her that nothing good would come from venturing into that darkness alone. She tried to brush it off with a laugh. “Yeah, right. That’s how all the horror movies start, Boone. Nice try.”
But before she could respond further, Tyler stepped forward, his expression hardening. “Not happening,” he said firmly, his voice leaving no room for argument. He shot a look at Boone, making it clear he wasn’t joking. “She’s not going anywhere without me, got it?”
Boone raised an eyebrow, but Kate elbowed him, sensing the tension. “Fine, fine,” Boone muttered, holding up his hands in surrender. “Didn’t mean to push it.”
Tyler turned back to Y/N, his hand resting gently on her shoulder. “I told you, I’m not lettin’ you out of my sight,” he said softly. Y/N felt a flutter in her chest at the way he was looking at her protective, unwavering and she managed a small smile.
“You’re my hero, Tyler Owens,” she teased quietly, but there was genuine gratitude in her voice.
But almost as if the building itself took offense to Boone’s words, a loud crash echoed through the hallways, reverberating off the dilapidated walls. Everyone froze, their breath catching in their throats as the sound of footsteps heavy and deliberate followed, as if something unseen was pacing just around the corner.
Tyler instinctively moved closer to Y/N, his arm brushing against hers. “Stay close,” he whispered, his voice barely audible over the strange sounds. Y/N nodded, gripping the handle of her camera with trembling fingers, feeling the warmth of his body next to hers as a shield against the creeping cold.
They moved toward the noise, Tyler leading the way with his flashlight. As the heavy metal door slammed shut behind them with a deafening clang, the darkness seemed to thicken around the group, swallowing up what little light their flashlights provided. Y/N’s breath hitched, her hand instinctively clutching Tyler’s arm as the sudden sound echoed through the empty hallways. Tyler’s grip tightened around his flashlight, his knuckles turning white as he scanned the darkness. The air felt colder now, and there was a tension in the silence, as if the building itself was holding its breath, waiting for something.
Boone was the first to speak, his bravado faltering as he turned back toward the closed door. “Alright, very funny. Who’s messing with us?” he called out, trying to sound more confident than he felt. His voice echoed, but there was no answer, only the steady creak of the building settling around them.
Javi swung his flashlight back down the corridor, his face pale. “Man, that door wasn’t supposed to be able to close like that,” he muttered. “This place is supposed to be abandoned.”
Kate, who had been holding up her camera, stopped recording and looked around nervously. “Okay, maybe we should just leave. This place is seriously creeping me out.”
Tyler kept his arm around Y/N’s shoulders, his body tensed as if ready to protect her from whatever might come out of the shadows. He glanced down at her, concern etched in his features. “You alright, darlin’? We’ll get out of here, okay?”
Y/N nodded, but her eyes darted around the hallway, her mind playing tricks on her as shadows seemed to shift and dance just beyond the flashlight’s reach. She tried to keep her breathing steady, but a shiver ran down her spine when she thought she heard a faint whisper, her name barely carried on the stale air. “Did you hear that?” she whispered to Tyler, her voice barely audible.
Before he could respond, the whispers grew louder, weaving through the air around them. They were indistinct at first, like the murmur of a distant conversation, but then they began to form words taunting, eerie words that sent a chill through the group. “You shouldn’t be here…” the voices echoed, seemingly coming from all around them, as if the very walls were speaking.
Boone’s bravado evaporated entirely as he spun around, his flashlight flickering. “Okay, nope. I’m out. We’re leaving. Right now,” he declared, tugging at the door handle, but it wouldn’t budge. He pulled harder, panic rising in his voice. “This isn’t funny anymore! It’s stuck!”
Kate backed away from the door, her face pale. “This has to be some kind of prank. Or maybe it’s the wind?”
Javi shook his head, swallowing hard as he glanced back down the dark hallway, where shadows seemed to writhe and stretch toward them. “That’s not the wind, Kate. There’s no way.”
Tyler turned to face the others, his jaw clenched. “Alright, let’s stay calm. We’ve got to find another way out of here,” he said, but his voice wavered as the whispers continued to creep through the air, growing louder with every passing second.
Y/N’s grip on Tyler’s arm tightened as she fought to keep her fear in check. The shadows seemed to pulse around them, growing darker with each flicker of their flashlights. Her pulse quickened when she thought she saw a figure standing at the end of the hallway, barely visible in the dim light a dark silhouette that didn’t move. “Tyler… there’s someone down there,” she breathed, barely able to form the words.
Tyler turned his flashlight in the direction she was pointing, but the beam only illuminated an empty hallway. He squinted, straining to see beyond the darkness, but the figure she saw seemed to melt into the shadows. “I don’t see anything,” he said, though he kept his voice low, as if afraid that raising it might make the darkness react.
Boone finally gave up on the door, turning back to the group with panic clear in his eyes. “Let’s head back the way we came. We’ll find a window or something to climb out of.”
But as they turned to retrace their steps, a chilling breeze swept through the hallway, carrying with it a deep, raspy voice that sent shivers down their spines. “You’ll never leave,” it hissed, the words wrapping around them like ice.
The lights flickered wildly, and Y/N felt Tyler’s arm slip around her waist, pulling her closer as if to shield her from whatever was lurking in the shadows. He met her gaze, his expression serious despite the fear that flickered in his eyes. “I’m not letting anything happen to you, Y/N. We’re getting out of here. Together.”
The words were barely out of his mouth when a loud bang echoed through the hallway, the sound of a door slamming shut deeper inside the building. Boone and Javi jumped, nearly dropping their equipment, while Kate let out a small yelp, stumbling backward.
Tyler’s eyes darted to the shadows, his jaw clenched. “Alright, that’s it. Everyone stick close. We’re finding another way out now.”
Just as they started to move down the hallway, there was a scuffling noise, like footsteps shuffling across the dusty floor behind them. Y/N turned, her flashlight cutting through the darkness, but all she saw was empty space until she caught a glimpse of movement, something slipping out of sight around the corner. Her breath caught in her throat, and she squeezed Tyler’s hand, forcing herself to keep moving forward even as dread twisted in her stomach.
The group pressed forward, but the whispers followed them, growing louder and more insistent, as if urging them deeper into the darkness. Tyler kept Y/N close by his side, his arm brushing against hers with every step, a steady presence amid the chaos. She clung to that comfort, even as the air seemed to grow colder, each breath visible in the dim light.
And then, just when it felt like the building was closing in around them, the whispers stopped, plunging the sanatorium into a heavy silence. For a moment, all they could hear was the sound of their own breathing, the rapid thumping of their hearts.
But before they could process the sudden quiet, another door creaked open somewhere down the hallway a slow, deliberate sound that sent a fresh wave of fear washing over them.
Tyler turned to Y/N, his expression grim but determined. “Whatever happens, stay close to me, you hear? We’re getting out of this place if I have to carry you out.”
She nodded, managing a small, shaky smile. “You’ve got yourself a deal, cowboy.”
But as they moved toward the sound, knowing it was their only hope of escape, they couldn’t shake the feeling that something was watching them something that had no intention of letting them leave.
And as the next door creaked open, revealing a staircase descending into pitch blackness, Y/N couldn’t shake the feeling that their night had only just begun.
Matters Of The Heart
This was a request messaged to me by @lonewolf830. I am going to try to drag this out and make a little longer story out of your idea. I hope you like the direction it goes!
Pairings: Scott/F.Reader(Scott is an ass), future Tyler/F.Reader
Warnings: A few swear words. Tornado damage. (Future Chapters will have Whump, hurt/comfort, and angst.) Inaccurate weather stuff
Summary: You are new to Storm Par and Tyler Owens is already chasing you. Scott has already asked you out on a date and warned you against Tyler, so you brush off Tyler, believing everything Scott has told you. However, when you are put in danger, it's always Tyler running to your rescue. You begin to wonder if maybe Tyler isn't all that bad after all.
Chapter 1
You were standing in the parking lot, gazing out over the horizon at the building storm clouds. The wind gently blew though your hair. A large group of storm chasers were gathering in preparation for the upcoming expected tornado outbreak across Oklahoma. This was your first day on the job with the Storm Par company. Your job was to track the storm's location and they were to follow it, gather information, and for reason's you didn't yet understand, you were suppose to help get property information on the places that got destroyed.
The sudden blare of country music filled the air along with the roar of an engine. You look up to see a red Dodge Ram pull in followed by a van and RV. A guy in a white cowboy hat and sun glasses gets out as a crowd surround the truck.
“If you feel it....” he yelled.
“CHASE IT!!!” the crowd yells back.
“I said IF YOU FEEL IT....” He yelled a little louder and the crowd responded with “CHASE IT!”
You watched for a few moments as he was laughing and signing autographs as he posed for photos.
“Alright you tornado nerds!” a woman yelled from the RV, holding some shirts up. Everyone flocked to her with money in hand.
You shook your wondering what kind of crazy that group of storm chasers were, and why did it seem like everyone loved them so much. The wind shifted and you turned your attention back to the sky.
“Hey. I'm Tyler. You new to chasing?” a deep voice came from behind.
You turned to see the guy in the white cowboy hat that was just surrounded by a group of fans. You couldn't help but notice the sparkle in his green eyes when he took off his glasses, or the way he smiled, the stumbled face.
“Yeah, first day.” you gave him a soft smile, “I am Y/N.” you extend a hand to him.
His rough callused hand felt strong and warm, yet tender as he shook your hand, “What team you with?” he asked.
“Storm Par.”
“Oh...them.” Tyler rolled his eyes. “You can do better then that, you know.”
“What's wrong with Storm Par? They seem like a really nice company, and the pay is great.”
“Y/N! Let's go!” Scott, your partner barked from across the parking lot.
“Well, gotta go.” you gave Tyler another smile. “It was really nice to meet you. You seem to have quite the following.”
“I do.” he nodded and tipped his cowboy hat at you, “Nice to meet you too, Y/N.”
Standing there, he watched you walk away, his eyes following the movement of your butt swaying. 'Hope to see you again soon.' he thought to himself.
“Hey.” you call to Scott as you get in the truck, “Looks like we need to head west.”
“What the hell were you doing talking to Owens?” Scott yelled, causing you to jump.
“Owens? His name was Tyler.” you say, a bit startled, “He was just being nice, introducing himself.”
“Tyler OWENS is his name, and he's nothing but trouble. Stay away from him.” Scott muttered, looking at the data on the laptop you held. “You sure about the west? I think the East holds more promise.” he muttered.
“Go west. Trust me.” you smile at him.
“Fine. West it is. But if you're wrong, it's your ass. Not mine.” He sped out of the parking lot.
“Come on. Let's go.” Tyler jumped into the truck, seeing the same thing you just had. “We're going west.”
“What's so wrong with Tyler?” you ask once on the road.
“He's Mr. YouTube star. He sells merch to make a buck off of everyone. He's got a new girl every night it seems. He thinks he's some Mr. Big shot, better then everyone else. He reels you in with that Mr. Nice Guy act and then he uses you for whatever you're good for and tosses you out like trash.”
“Oh.” you are taken aback by Scott's harsh words. Tyler didn't come across as that type of person from your first meeting, but...that was one meeting. He was selling stuff and he did have a large following. You could believe what Scott was telling you. After all, Scott had been doing this for several years and probably knew Tyler a lot better then you would have from just a quick meeting. “Thanks for the warning.” you gave a smile to Scott.
“Oh come on, you didn't actually fall for his act? Did you?” Scott looked over at you with a look of disbelief.
“Well...I mean...he wasn't bad to look at and he was nice.” you grin with a shrug.
“Really, Y/N? I thought you were smarter then that.”
“Make a right here.” you say. “I was just going off my first impression. I am sure I would have figured him out pretty quickly on my own...but seriously, thank you for the warning. I can avoid that heartbreak.”
Scott pulls off to the right and follows a dirt road. “Avoid him all together. He's bad news.” he muttered, “Hey, if you want to go out and have a good time, let me know. I'll take you out. I am not a womanizer like he is.”
“Oh, is that so?” you grin, “You mean to tell me someone as nice looking as you doesn't have a girlfriend?”
“Nope.” Scott shook his head, “Not many girls want to go chasing after tornadoes.” he shoots you a look, his eyes seemly undressing you and he grins, “What you say, sweetie? Go out with me tonight?”
You shrug, “Okay, sure. If it's not against company policy or anything.”
“Not at all.” Scott grins, “We'll go down to the Reno bar tonight. It's right down the road from the hotel. Sound good?”
“Sure...” you start to say and then scream, “SCOTT! WATCH OUT!”
Music blasts from the speakers as Tyler's red Dodge Ram cuts you off. He is yelling something at you, but over the music and Scott cussing, you can't hear what it is...you don't really care at the moment.
“Asshole!” Scott was yelling as he fought to get the truck back on the road.
Suddenly, Tyler turned his truck sideways, blocking your path.
“What the HELL man!” Scott rolls down his window yelling.
“TURN AROUND! It's an EF 5 up ahead! Check your data again. You can't drive THAT truck into an EF5! I wouldn't drive MY truck into one. TURN AROUND!” Tyler yelled.
“Fuck you man!” Scott tried to drive around but Tyler pulled forward, bumping into the white Storm Par truck.
“Listen, if you want to get yourself killed, go for it! But don't be taking her into that!” Tyler yelled, his eyes locking on yours. “Y/N, check the data. Am I right?”
You frantically punch the keys on the laptop refreshing the screen. “Oh my God.” you gasp. “Scott, he's right. It's MASSIVE! We gotta turn around.”
“Fine...Whatever.” Scott turns the truck around and glares at you, “Why the hell did you tell me to go this way if it's an EF5! YOU told me to turn right. I did that!”
“It wasn't that big when I checked it last! It just blew up!” you try to defend yourself. This was a great first impression. “Sorry.” you muttered.
“Just...pay more attention next time.” he said.
“I will.” you mutter, refreshing the feed again on the laptop, “Looks like the tornado is moving to the west. It's out of the town now. We should go back there and see if we can be of any help. I can't imagine the destruction..”
Scott pulls the truck into a parking lot and glares at you, “If you are going to work with Storm Par, you've got to understand time is money. We don't get paid to help people. We get paid for the storm data, we get paid for the property data...we don't get paid to help. That's someone else's job...not ours.”
You nod and he turns around heading back into town. As you drive though, you see houses and businesses completely leveled. You notice Tyler's truck parked among the rumble and he was climbing over a destroyed house calling for what you guessed was a dog. The woman from the RV was selling stuff from the back of it and another girl was walking around with food and water, passing them out.
It looked like they were helping, but you also could see what Scott said about them selling stuff was true.
“It's all a show.” Scott's voice cuts into your thoughts. “They brag about how much they help so they can get more money from their followers and more people will want to buy shirts. They aren't really helping, they're only promoting themselves.” he scoffed.
You sigh as he stops the truck, “Here. Go give our card to everyone who's lost their home or business. Tell them we make cash offers for their properties. Get information from all who are interested and then run some numbers for us. See what the property value is and make sure we find out what kind of insurance they have.”
“Scott, are you sure this is the right time for that? I mean, they JUST lost everything...should we really be swooping in offering to buy whatever they have left?” you frown. Your heart broke for these people and this idea just wasn't sitting right with you.
“It's our job. It's what we do.” Scott sighed, “Seriously Y/N. I thought you were excited about this job! So far all you've done was almost got us killed and complained! If we don't get to them now someone else will and we will lose out on that money.”
“Alright. You're right. I am sorry. I am just trying to learn this job.” you sigh and get out of the truck, walking up to a lady and introducing yourself. She was in tears. “I am so sorry. If you need anything, call us at Storm Par.” you give her a hug. “Did you have insurance on the house?”
“No.” the woman cried shaking her head.
“I am so sorry.” your heart broke for her, “Storm Par would be willing to make a cash offer on your land. If that's the road you want to take, give us a call.”
“Okay.” she mumbled, and walked away calling for her cat.
“Hey, Y/N...close call there.” Tyler jogged up to your side. “You okay?”
“Yeah. Thank you. For stopping us. It's my fault, I should have been paying attention.”
Tyler frowned, “It's not your fault. That storm just exploded. We were following it too. It didn't look that big and then wham, all of a sudden it was a monster. Once you guys got turned around we drove on into town to try to warn as many people as possible and get them into shelter.”
You nod, “And sell your brand, I see.”
“What's that suppose to mean?” Tyler frowned.
“Don't worry. Scott told me all about you and what you do.” you turn and walk away in a huff.
“Did he also tell you what Storm Par is all about?” Tyler yelled after you.
“Hey there, beautiful.” Scott runs up to you after seeing that you were talking to Tyler, “Is he bothering you again?”
“Nothing I can't handle.” you smile at Scott, “I am really sorry I messed things up before.”
“It's okay. It's your first day. You'll learn. What did you find out on the properties?” he asked.
“That lady there has no insurance. I gave her a card and told her Storm Par would be interested.”
“Good girl. See, you're getting it.” Scott pulls you into a hug and looks back to see Tyler glaring at him. He gives you a quick kiss on the cheek, “I am looking forward to our date tonight.”
You blush slightly as Scott winks at you and jogs back to the truck.
“Hey, you want water or food or anything?” A girl asks. You recognize her as one of the people on Tyler's crew. “No, I am good. I am not giving you any money.”
“It's not about the money. We give away food and water when we get to a disaster scene. That's why we sell the merchandise. We sell to those who are able to afford to buy it. We give to those who can not. We give away almost as many shirts as we sell. The money we get from the sales goes to buy food and water for the victims and volunteers helping.”
“Oh. I had heard something different.” you say, “I am still okay. We've got stuff back in the truck and I am heading there to run some numbers for them.”
“Okay, whatever. If you change your mind come on over. We have plenty.” she walked away, handing out a sandwich and water to the woman you spoke to earlier.
You walk slowly back to the truck and get in, hearing Scott talking to someone on the phone about buying properties and who didn't have good insurance and those who did. Scott hanged up and gave you smile. “Let's go get something to eat.”
“I don't think that's a great idea right now.” you say, looking at the radar. “Look, this cell to the south is looking bad.”
Scott glances at it and shrugs, “I've seen worse. Let's go. I am hungry.”
Tyler looks at the sky to the south and watches as Scott turns and heads directly into the oncoming storm.
“Shit.” he muttered, then turned and waved at his team. “I'll be back in a bit.” he called and ran to his truck, firing it up and taking off after you and Scott. He didn't care if Scott wanted to get himself killed, but he'd be damned if he was going to let you be put in danger because of it.

Chapter 1 Chapter 2
Chapter 3
A loud clash of thunder startled you awake, lighting lit up the room. “MOMMY!” the kids starting screaming for you from the other room. “I am coming.” you sighed, standing up. You had a headache and your stomach felt like it was doing somersaults. You felt like you were burning up, yet a chill ran down your spin. Great, you thought. Now I am sick on top of everything else.
“Hey guys, it's okay.” you open the door to the children's room, turning your head as you coughed. “Mommy is here.”
“I am scared.” Harley was crying and hugging her teddy bear.
“Is a tornado coming to destroy this house too?” Billy asked, tears streaming down his face.
Thunder boomed outside again and lighting struck something nearby, shaking the house with a boom. The nightlight in the room went out and the kids screamed. You started to tremble with fear. Was there a tornado out there?
“Hey, everything okay?” Tyler came up behind you, placing a hand on your shoulder as he shone a flashlight around the room.
“We're scared.” Billy cried, “Is a tornado coming?”
“No, this is just a thunderstorm, buddy.” Tyler reassured the child. “No tornadoes tonight. If there was one, we would go into a place called a storm cellar that's connected to the house and we'd be safe in there. This is nothing more then thunder and lighting.”
“Excuse me.” you take off running for the bathroom, feeling your stomach getting sick. You stumbled in the hallway before finally making it to the bathroom fumbled around to the toilet. It was so dark you could hardly see anything.
“You guys stay right here. I am only going across the hall to help your mama, okay?” Tyler said.
The kids nodded and huddled under their blankets.
“You okay?” Tyler asked, shinning the light into the bathroom.
You were sitting on the floor, head hung over the toilet as your stomach emptied it's self of everything you ate or drank in the last several hours.
Tyler got a wash cloth from the closet and ran it under cool water. “Here. This might help.” he said bringing it over to you and brushing a strand of hair away from your face.
“Thanks.” your voice was barely a whisper as you took deep breaths and held the cool clothe to your face, trying to get your stomach to settle down.
“Not a problem.” he responded, resting a hand on your shoulder for a moment.
Finally, you decide your stomach was over with being sick and you stood with the help of Tyler supporting your arm and dropped the wash clothe in the hamper.
“Come on, I'll make sure you get back to your room okay.” Tyler said softly, shinning the flashlight in front of you to light up the hall.
“No, I gotta go back with the kids. They're terrified of storms.” you turn to head towards the kids room.
“Let me sit up with them, as long as they are okay with it. You should be in bed resting.”
You shake your head, “I couldn't ask you to do that. I am not even sure they will be okay with a stranger.” you glance at him, “Well a new friend at least. They just met you today. It takes a lot for me to calm them down in storms.”
“It's okay. You aren't asking me, I am offering. I don't have any big plans for tomorrow, and you're sick.” he said, “Go back to bed. I'll sit with them for a bit if they want me to.”
You nod and Tyler leads you back into your room, making sure you made it to the bed. As you crawled under the covers once more he turned and left, closing the door halfway behind him.
“Hey guys...how are we doing?” Tyler asked. The storm had seemed to be calming down now and the kids didn't seem so afraid.
“Is it gone?” Harley asked.
“For now. I think there are more coming.” he answered.
“Is mommy okay?” Billy asked.
“Mommy is okay, but she's sick. She went back to bed to lay down so she can feel better.” Tyler explained. “You know how it is to be sick, right?”
Both kids nodded, “I don't like to be sick. I feel yucky.” Harley made a face, sticking out her tongue.
“I just want to lay down when I am sick. I don't feel good when I am sick.” Billy added.
“That's right.” Tyler shook his head, “And that's how your mama is feeling right now. How about you guys come down stairs with me and we'll get your mommy some medicine and water to help her feel better, then I'll sit in here with you until all the storms are gone. Will that be okay?”
“You chase storms, right?” Billy asked.
Tyler nodded, “That's right. Sometimes I do.”
“Do you know when there is a tornado?” he asked.
Tyler nodded, “Normally, yes. We have a very good idea when and where the tornadoes are going to hit. That's why we chase the storms. We try to warn people of the danger before the tornadoes come and we help them after the storm.”
“Are there tornadoes coming this way tonight?” Billy asked.
“No, buddy. No tornadoes tonight. I promise. Only thunder and lighting and lots of rain.”
“It's still scary.” Harley added.
“I know.” Tyler went over and gave the little girl a hug, “That's why I am going to stay in here with you after we get your mommy some medicine. I'll stay up and watch the storms to make sure there's no tornadoes or anything bad in them. I used to be scared of storms too, you know that?”
“Really?” Billy asked, “What did you do?”
“Well, come on downstairs with me and I'll tell you while I get some stuff for your mommy.” Tyler picked up Harley and extended a hand for Billy to hold. “Billy, you can be in charge of the flashlight if you want.”
“Cool!” Billy was happy to hold the flashlight and light the way down the stairs as Tyler continued talking. “Now, when I was little like you and scared of storms, my mama would build a little bed out of blankets and pillows and we'd snuggle down and play games, or tell stories, or even sing songs. Sometimes, we'd have milk and cookies for a snack.”
“I want milk and cookies.” Harley whined, laying her head on Tyler's shoulder as he carried her into the kitchen. He sat her down in a chair and Billy climbed up in a chair next to her.
“Alright guys. I am going to fix you some milk and cookies, but you can't tell your mommy about this, okay?”
They nodded as Tyler took down three glasses, filling two of them with milk and setting them down in front of the kids. He got two cookies from the cookie jar and placed them down.
“Can we sing songs and tell stories tonight?” Billy asked in between bites of his cookie.
“Sure buddy.” Tyler agreed, fixing a glass of water for you and getting some medicine for fever and upset stomach. “We'll make a little area of blankets and pillows and we will sing songs and tell stories until you guys are ready to go back to sleep.”
“Yay!” the kids cheered.
Thunder rolled again and instantly, their smiles faded and they got a look of fear.
“It's okay, just another storm rolling in.” Tyler assured them as they finished their cookies and milk. He put their glasses in the dishwasher and then picked up your medicine and water. “Billy, do you want to lead the way again?”
Billy nodded, holding the flashlight and leading the way up the stairs and to your mom.
You hear the door open and turn to look, “Hey, I got you some medicine for your stomach and fever.” Tyler said softly, setting the water on the nightstand and handing you two pills.
“Thanks, you didn't have to.” You sat up and gave him a smile, then looked at the kids, “What are you two doing out of bed?”
“Helping Mr. Tyler.” Billy grinned.
“And we had cookies and milk!” Harley added.
“Hey! That was suppose to be a secret! You gonna get me in trouble!” Tyler grinned then turned to you, “I kept them with me so they didn't get scared. I am going to sit with them until the storms are gone. Sounds like another one is rolling in.”
“We are going to sing songs and tell stories!” Billy added.
“Thank you.” You give a soft smile to Tyler and look over at your two kids, “You two be good for Mr. Tyler, understood?”
“Yes mommy.” they both say in union.
“Okay, guys. Ready to go make a cozy area out of your blankets and pillows?” he asked.
“YAY!” The kids cheer and each grab one of his hands and pull him out of the room.
“If you need anything, let me know.” Tyler called to you as the kids pull him down the hallway and you smile.
The kids eagerly grabbed the blankets and pillows from their bed, and Harley grabbed her favorite bear, Lulu. Tyler helped them set up a seating area in the corner far away from the window and then sat down and both kids climbed up in his lap.
“Alright, do we want a song or a story first?” he asked.
“I like the Mowana song!” Harley said.
Thinking for a moment, Tyler remembered a song from the movie. He enjoyed the Disney movies, but he didn't tell anyone else that. In a way, he was still just a kid himself. As his mama kept telling him...he never grew up.
Tyler leaned back against the wall and wrapped each kid in their blanket, then began to sing.
Every turn I take
Every trail I track
Every path I make
Every road leads back to the place I know
Where I cannot go
Where I long to be
As Tyler sang, his mind wandered. This is what he had always wanted, but could never find. This was where he could not go, but longed to be. Being with you today and being with the kids made him realize what he had been missing all these years. Horseback riding with kids in tow, watching them pick wildflowers for their mama, shopping for the kids, and now...being the protector during a storm. This was what he wanted, but could never seem to have. He dated a lot, but nothing ever really got serious. A family of his own was what he really was searching for all this time, but just could never find. 'Maybe someday.' he thought to himself with a sad smile. For now, this was enough. This felt like home. This felt like exactly where his heart wanted to be.

Part 2
You stood next to Tyler as the boat sped across the water, a light mist spraying up. He had one hand on the wheel and another wrapped around your waist as he looked over at you laughing, “Isn't this great, Darling.”
“It is.” you stand up on your tiptoes brushing your lips against his.
“This looks like a good spot.” he flashed you his world famous grin as the boat slowed. The sun was just starting to set over the lake. Clouds were rolling in, but the lake was still calm with only a cool breeze blowing.
Tyler hopped up to the bow of the boat and dropped the anchor down before slowly making his way back to you, his eyes never leaving you and a devilish grin that he just couldn't hold back.
“What is that look for?” you asked, a small smile tugging at your lips.
“You're so beautiful.” he whispered, wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you to his chest, “And I love you, Y/N...with all my heart. You are my life. You're my everything. There's nothing I wouldn't do for you.”
“I know.” you whispered, leaning your head against his chest, before looking up at him, locking your eyes with his, “I couldn't imagine my life without you.” you whisper. “I have never felt so loved and protected. I just...I don't know....I feel like we were meant to be or were lovers in another lifetime or something.”
“Maybe we were, Darling.” he kissed your neck softly. “You are all I'll ever need...all I'll ever want. You are my shelter in the storm.” and with that Tyler dropped to one knee and was holding a box with a ring up to you. The golden band held a single diamond that seemed to sparkle in the light of the setting sun. “Y/N...all I want for Christmas...and all I want for the rest of my life is for you to be by my side. I love you with everything I have. Will you marry me?”
Tears filled your eyes and Tyler's heart beat faster. Were those tears of joy?
“Yes Tyler...Yes I will marry you.” You smiled and left out a scream of delight when he stood and lifted you in the air, twirling you around.
“I love you.” he whispered, slipping the ring on your figure and capturing your lips in a deep passionate kiss.
“Shall we have a glass of wine to celebrate?” you offer, picking up the two wine glasses.
“Of course.” Tyler smiled softly at you, opening the cork on the wine and pouring some in each glass. He sat the wine bottle down and raised his glass to a toast, “To the first day of the rest of our lives together.” he leaned over and kissed you softly as you clicked the glasses together.
You leaned against Tyler's chest as he draped one arm around you, sipping wine and almost being lulled to sleep by the gentle rocking of the boat.
Thunder rumbled in the distance, causing both of you to sit up and take notice of the approaching weather. Dark clouds were building back towards the cabin, despite the last rays of sunlight still sinking down over the horizon to the front of you.
“We better head back.” you reluctantly stood up.
Tyler reached for his phone with a concerned look on his face. He didn't like the looks of the clouds or the sudden drop he felt in the pressure.
“We gotta go...but not to the cabin.” he stood quickly, dropping the phone.
“What's wrong?” you ask.
“Looks like a super cell...from the hook I am seeing there could be a tornado on the ground or soon to be on the ground near the cabin. We can't go back there right now. Get the life jackets and put one on, just in case.” he instructed, as he hurried to pull up the anchor.
You scramble to grab the life jackets from one of the seat storage areas, but after searching all the seating areas, you only found one. “Aren't there suppose to be life jackets for everyone? I'm just seeing one life jacket and the four blankets we brought.” you begin to panic. “How many are there suppose to be on here?”
“I don't know. I should have checked before we went out. I assumed they had several.” Tyler looked at you, “Put that on.”
“What about you?”
“Y/N...just do it. I'll be okay. I am not leaving your side anyhow.” his voice was stern.
You slipped the jacket on and held on, knowing it was pointless to argue right now.
“Look for a little cove or cave or a house...anything that we can shelter in.” he called.
Scanning the lake, you wiped the tears away that started falling. Why did it seem that if you and Tyler weren't chasing a storm, then the storm was chasing you.
“It'll be okay.” Tyler's heart broke at the tears he saw streaming down your face. He pulled you close to him and kissed the top of your head, “We've got this, it's going to be okay.” he promised. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” you whisper, hugging him. “Hey...there. It looks like a little cave or something.” you point to a little cove to the right that looked like it might open up to a cave.
Tyler turned the boat and ran it as close to shore as possible, jumping up to the bow he tossed down the anchor.
“Come on.” he took your hand and led you to the rear of the boat. “Stay here, let me get in and see how deep it is.” with that he jumped from the back, landing in about waist deep water.
“Take your shoes off, roll up your pants and come here. I am going to carry you to shore then I'll come back for the blankets.”
“I am perfectly fine to walk.” you protest.
“Listen to me, Darling. It's going to get cold tonight. It's suppose to snow. We will freeze to death out here if both of us have soaking wet clothes on. ONE of us has to get to wet, but we both don't. Now come here.”
“This is ridiculous.” you mutter, holding your shoes in one hand and pulling your pants up to the knees. You make your way to the the back of the boat and Tyler scoops you up in his arms, holding you as high above the water as possible, only your feet dipped into the cold water. Carefully he sets you down once you reach shore and takes your hand, leading you towards the cave.
“Think there's animals in there?” you asked concerned.
“Let's hope not.” Tyler enters first peering into the darkness. “HEY!” he yells and listens...not hearing any movement. “I can't see any father back.” he says, looking at the ground, “But I am not seeing tracks or any signs of an animal being here. Just wait right here for me. I am going to go get the blankets, then we'll go in.”
You nod, watching him hurry back into the freezing water. Suddenly he yelps out in pain and falls into the water, his head disappearing under the surface for a moment.
“TYLER!” you take off towards the water.
“I am okay...I am okay.” he calls, stumbling to his feet. “Stay by the cave. This storm is moving in quick!” he yells, masking the sharp pain that was running up his leg. He made his way as quickly as he could to the boat, hoisting himself up and grabbing the blankets and his cell phone.
You watched him carefully, concern etched on your face, seeing him favoring his right leg, seeing how he stumbled though the water, and was now limping back to you. Thunder cracked overhead and the rain began to pour down.
“You okay?” you ask, wrapping your arms around him.
“Yeah, fine.” he offered you a smile and wrapped his arm around your shoulder, “Let's move back into the cave a little more away from the wind and the rain.” He checked the phone for signal, not expecting to find any, but thankful the flashlight worked. Using the flashlight on his phone, Tyler shined a light around the small cave opening. It wasn't a very deep cave, but there also wasn't any animals. “This should give us enough shelter from the storm.” he said as the winds suddenly roared outside.
“Get down!” Tyler screamed, hearing the all too familiar freight train sound. He pushed you to the ground, and covered your body with is, using one hand to cover your head and the other to wrap around you. He was thankful you still had the life jacket on, hoping it would offer you more protection from any flying debris.
You felt small rocks and dirt rain down then a sudden rumble. Tyler tightened his grip on you and pressed his body closer to yours, trying to shield you from the falling rocks. Total blackness took over the cave as rocks fell in front of the opening, blocking it off.
Larger rocks started falling around you and you felt one of them land directly on your ankle and you let out a scream as pain shot though your leg. “You okay? What happened?” Tyler asked, his voice full of worry. You started to answer when something slammed into your head. You thought you heard Tyler yelp out in pain just before you passed out.
The large rock had smashed into Tyler's hand and he was sure it was broken, but right now he didn't care. “Y/N? Darling answer me!” he yelled, feeling you go limp under him. He was cursing himself for not doing a better job at shielding you. He should have had your head covered more. “Baby please I need you.” tears were streaming down his face. It was pitch dark in there, he couldn't tell what was wrong or how badly you were hurt.
As quickly as it started, it stopped. The roaring winds were gone, the rocks had stopped falling. All Tyler heard now was the distant rumble of thunder. Quickly he rolled off of you and checked for a pulse and breathing, sighing in relief finding a steady heartbeat and normal breathing. Running his hand across your face and down your body, he tried to determine where the injuries were. “Hang on baby.” he whispered, placing a soft kiss on your lips. “We're going to be okay. I promise.”
The cold damp air of the cave chilled him to the bone, and he knew with the falling temperatures and with snow in the forecast for tonight, it was only going to get worse. He quickly removed his wet clothes and then carefully worked to remove the life jacket and then got you undressed, using the life jacket as a pillow.
“Y/N, darling, wake up. Please.” he pleaded, gently brushing the hair out of your face. “I am going to find the blankets, then I'll be right back.”
It only took a moment to find the blankets a few feet away. Tyler didn't waste time looking for the cell phone. Right now, it was more important that he get you covered up and that you both stay as warm as possible. Tucking one blanket under you, he laid against you and wrapped the other three blankets around the both of you, then held you tightly against his chest, his chin resting on top of your head. “I love you baby. Please be okay. I need you.” he whispered, tears coming to his eyes.
Tyler drifted off to sleep, only be be awoken by the unmistakable howl of a wolf, right outside of the cave entrance.
“Ty?” you muttered.
“Y/N? I am right here, sweetheart.” he held you closer, brushing his hand against your cheek. “Where are you hurt?” he asked, his voice cracking, “I am sorry, I tried to shield you. I should have had your head covered more.”
“I am okay.” you assured him, “My head and ankle are hurting, but it's okay. I am okay.” you repeated, wrapping your arms around him. “Because of you...I am okay.” you kissed him softly...”But why are we naked?” you asked.
“Body heat. It's best for body to body heat to prevent hypothermia.” he explained.
Another howl filled the cave and you shivered in fear.
“I don't think they can get in.” Tyler said, “but let's move back against the cave wall. With our backs against the wall we could fend off any attack from the front.”
You nod, but the cave was so dark, you knew that neither of you could see the wolves if they got into the cave. There could be a pack right next to you now and you wouldn't know it. That thought, of something stalking you in the darkness filled you with fear. Tyler felt you trembling next to him and pulled you closer to him. “It's going to be okay.” he whispered.
You both stumbled across the cave floor. Tyler with his hurt leg and you with what you thought was a broken ankle made quite a pair, you were certain.
Once you reach the wall, Tyler lays a blanket across the ground. “You lay on the that, press your back against the wall..” he instructed.
“You okay?” you asked, “I noticed the limp in your step.”
“It's fine. My leg is just a little sore from where I fell in the lake.” Tyler brushed it off and positioned himself in front of you, pressing you between him and the cave wall then wrapped the blankets back around the both of you again. You wrapped your arms around his waist and rested your head against his back as he faced outward, ready to defend you against any danger that might enter the cave.
“I love you.” he whispered, wrapping his arms around yours and moving his body as close to yours as possible.
“I love you too.” you kiss the back of his neck softly and snuggle into him.
Within a few moments, you fell asleep.
* * * *
“Hello? Hello? Anyone in there?” You and Tyler both were startled awake by voices calling.
“Yes. In here. We're trapped.” you call.
“Hang on, we're working to get to you. How many? Anyone injured?”
“Two. My fiancee has a bad cut on his leg. I think I might have a broken ankle.”
Tyler turned to you, “you're ankle in broken? Y/N, why didn't you tell me when I asked you?”
“I didn't want to worry you. It's no big deal, really.” you say.
“She was knocked unconscious last night by a rock slide. She might also have a head injury.” Tyler informed them.
You could hear workers on the outside moving rocks away, “We're almost to you. Get back, as far against the cave wall as possible, just in case these rocks start falling when we move them.”
Tyler presses his body against yours as the rocks are pushed away and crumble to the ground, making a small opening on the top.
Lights fill the cave as a man climbs in, “Ready to get out of here?” he asks with a smile.
“Sure are.” Tyler stands and helps you to your feet, making sure the blanket stays wrapped around you. He scoops you up in his arms, buckling a little as the pain shot up his leg. His hand sent waves of pain though his arm so he supported you with his arm instead.
“Ty, put me down. I can walk.” you protested.
“I got ya. I don't want you hurting your ankle worse.” he held you close to his chest and then handled you up to the rescue workers. Tyler tried to climb the uneven rocks, once you were out, but he couldn't get a good footing with his hurt leg and broken hand.
The bright sunlight hurt your eyes at first. Finally as your eyes adjusted, you took in the scene around you. The boat you were on was crushed and pushed ashore, trees were down everywhere, and about six inches of snow was on the ground. You shivered against the cold and rescue workers were there, wrapping a warm blanket around you, offering you hot chocolate and bringing a stretcher over for you to lay on.
“Tyler?” you stood and waited for him to come out of the same area as you did. “What's taking so long?” you ask, fear building.
“The rocks are unsteady. He's having trouble climbing up. His leg is weak and I think his hand is broken, so he's not able to get a good grip. We're putting down a rope for him to tie himself onto, but we gotta move slow as to not cause the rocks to collapse and bury him.” A rescue worker explained to you.
“TYLER!” you yell, trying to make your way back up the rock slide.
“Y/N, It's okay. I am going to be okay. It's just going to take a minute.” he called. “I love you. Go on with them. Go to the hospital. I'll be there soon.”
“I am not leaving without him.” you glared at the rescue worker who tried to help you back to the stretcher.
“At least have a seat so your bare feet aren't in the snow.” he tried to reason. “We'll let you stay here until we get him out.”
You nod, sitting down on the stretcher and covering your feet with the warm blanket.
“Can't you give Tyler a warm blanket too and some coco to help keep him warm?” you ask.
“We're going to have him out in just a moment.” the rescuer said and walked away.
Suddenly, there was a rumble and the rescuers were yelling. “Sir, can you hear me?” they were calling down into the hole that they pulled you out of.
You stand up and hobble over to the entrance to the cave, keeping the blanket wrapped tightly around you and still holding the hot coco mug. “What happened?” you ask.
“Part of the wall inside collapsed.” one of them tell you.
“Tyler? You okay?” you call, your heart racing when you didn't receive a response. You scramble up the rocks ignoring the pain in your ankle.
“Miss, you can't be up here. The whole thing can collapse.” a rescuer tried to push you away but you shoved against him. “I am going back in there to help him.” you seethed, “Get out of my way!”
“Ty?” you call into the hole, still not getting a response. You slide down yelping out in pain as you land hard on your ankle.
You instantly spot him, face down in the dirt, partly covered by the rocks and dirt. “Tyler..” you rush to his side, brushing the dirt away from his face and cradling his head in your lap. He takes a deep breath and starts coughing. “Y/N?” he forces his eyes open and looks at you in confusion. “What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice weak and raspy.
“Are you two okay?” one of the rescuers yelled.
“I came back for you. They said there was a rock slide.” you felt the tears rolling down you cheeks. “If I didn't....you would...Ty, you were buried under the dirt..I..” you broke down in sobs, realizing just how close you came to losing him.
“It's okay. I am okay.” he slowly sits up and wraps his strong arms around you, holding you close. “I wish you didn't come back in. You were safe.” he muttered.
“If I didn't come back in you would have died, Tyler. You were going to suffocated in that dirt before they ever got to you.” you cried. “How could you say you wish I didn't come back in. Do you know what it would do to me if I lost you?”
“I am sorry, Darling. You saved my life and I am so thankful and grateful for that, but I don't ever want you putting yourself in danger for me. It would kill me if something happened to you, especially if you got hurt on my account.” he kissed you gently and you saw the tears in his own eyes. “I love you, Y/N. With all of my heart. Please though, please don't risk your life for me.”
“Hello? Is everyone okay?” The rescuer yelled again.
“Just figure out how to get us out of here!” you snap at the rescuer, then turned back to Tyler. “I wasn't leavening you alone in here and hurt.” tears rolled down you cheeks, “When they couldn't get an answer from you...no one was going to keep me out of here. You are always putting yourself in danger for me. I will always do the same for you.”
Tyler hugged you close to him, tears in his own eyes. “I love having you next to me, but I wish you had stayed where it was safe.”
“But then, you wouldn't be here now.” you whispered, resting your head against his chest, “and that in itself would have killed me.”
He held you tightly to his chest, thanking the God above that you two were together, and safe. “How much longer up there?” he called to the rescuers.
“We're going to be digging this whole slide out. Move as far back as possible and stay there. It's going to be a lot of noise and falling rocks.” the rescuer yelled.
Tyler stood and helped you to your feet and you both hobbled best you could to the far wall. He covered your body with his and pressed you against the wall as the wall blocking the entrance crumbled.
After several moments, the rescuers were running to you, having cleared the entrance enough to walk out of. “You guys okay?” he asked.
Tyler looked at you and smiled, taking your hand in his. “We're okay.” he smiled, keeping you close as you both walked out of the cave and to the waiting ambulances.
“I love you.” he whispered, kissing you softly,
“I love you too.” you whisper against his lips, “Once we get released from the hospital, wanna build a snow man?”
He grinned, “Of course I do. Then, I think we should head home and give everyone the good news.” he said, kissing the ring on your figure.

You had a horrible night, tossing and turning all night as you struggled to fall asleep. The image of Tyler with some mystery girl was torturing you.
You didn’t know why you felt jealous. Tyler’s wasn’t yours anymore. You both had your chance, and you both crashed and burned. You didn’t know why you felt like giving it a second chance.
So the next morning, you were understandably grouchy. You headed down to the diner to get some coffee.
You waited at the counter as the waitress poured you coffee and toasted a bagel for you.
You looked down the counter and saw Boone sitting a few feet away. He politely smiled and waved at you. “You excited for the storms today?” You asked him, walking over and taking the seat next to him.
“Totally. The conditions look great today.” He said, enthusiastically. You quickly thanked the waitress as she handed you your food.
“Hey, good morning, sweetheart,” you heard Tyler say behind you. You quickly spun around and froze when you saw Tyler smiling down at you.
“I have to go find Javi. It was nice talking to you, Boone.” You said, before spinning on your heel and leaving the diner. Tyler was left stunned as you refused to even acknowledge him.

summary: your boyfriend Tyler sees decides he wants to have a baby with you after seeing you hold your niece
cw: MDNI (18+) smut (p in v) unprotected sex (wrap it before you smack it) breeding kink
based on this request by @thespillingvoid
The sun beat down on the patio where everyone was sitting. Your family had invited you and Tyler over for a barbecue watching you lounge in your parents pool was doing things to him. Seeing your tits practically spilling out of your bikini top made him want to pull you into your parents guest bedroom and have his way with you, wanting to worship your body in all the ways you deserved. Even though he had done exactly that that morning.
But that red color just did something to him, the way it complimented your skin. And you knew what you were doing, knowing that he loved the color on you. Wearing it just to mess with his head.
And when he saw you playing with your niece? It was all over for him. She was giggling as you tickled her, holding her close to you as she sat with you in your float. The two of you had watched her multiple times so he had no idea why he was feeling different.
You had discussed having children eventually, but seeing you being so gentle and caring with Autumn, he knew he wanted to get right to it.
Thinking about the two of you having a baby of your own, it was making him thinking of turning the guest room into a nursery. He could imagine you rocking your little girl to sleep, singing to her just like you did to him when he couldn’t sleep.
He wanted to buy all the cute clothes and watch your families gush over how adorable she was. He wanted to be right there after you gave birth, holding her while you got some rest, looking down at her as he thought about how she was a product of nothing but the love between you and him.
so this seems to be a common issue i keep having with new blogs on here so i’ll just say this.
if you don’t want to get blocked by your favorite content creators:
1. have your age listed in your bio or pinned post.
2. don’t have a blank blog— that right there tells me you don’t want to support any kind of creator on this platform which really fucking sucks.
there’s a lot of people coming over from tik tok and insta that don’t realize this but tumblr does NOT function like either of those sites!!
LIKES MEAN NOTHING.
reblogs are what keep posts alive, it doesn’t matter how many followers you have. a lot or a little, a reblog will get a post seen by someone but continued likes will kill a post.
also reblogging and reposting are not the same thing.
reposting something from a creator would mean you copied/saved their work and made a whole new post from your blog with that material. WHICH IS A BIG FAT NO NO !!
a reblog keeps the credit to the original poster and you can add something to it, or nothing at all. you don’t even have to add tags if you don’t want to.
content creators on this app are tired. we do this shit for free and for fun, the very least you can do is learn how this website operates and reblog their content.
YES to ALL of the above!! But I just wanted to say something about this line.
"you can add something to it, or nothing at all. you don’t even have to add tags if you don’t want to."
I was thinking about this yesterday and I have noticed a trend that people don't tend to add to posts anymore. Reblogging and adding something like I am now, is how some of the funniest, most amazing heritage posts came about back in the day. But I think that people coming from other sites don't realize that it's not only an okay thing to do but highly encouraged.
You can put things in the tags if you want but if you have something to add you can put it here and not feel bad about it. it's not cringe, it's the whole point. I know we have 'replies' now but the reblog button was the original comment section and since people have stopped using it that way engagement on all content has plummeted.
A lack of engagement doesn't just kill a post, it can kill blogs. If you have a blog dedicated to a particular ship not being able to engage with that is so so disheartening. Engage with creators of any kind and any level. Help your fandom and the fandom community grow and thrive
The Storms of Life Chapter 2
Warnings: None...just Tyler and team being sweet
Pairings: Tyler/F. Reader
Chapter 1
Boone had choose to ride in the van with Lily, giving you room in the front seat and the kids in the back seat. Dexter and Dani followed behind.
“You guys like fireworks?” Tyler asked, peeking into the rear view mirror.
“Boom Boom!” Little Harley shouted.
“They're loud! And Cool!” Billy grinned.
“Ready for a show?” he flashed you a grin.
“You really are going to shoot fireworks off the back of your truck?” you asked.
“Yep. I normally shoot them off in a tornado.”
“You're crazy!” you laugh.
“I've been called worse.” Tyler shrugged with a smile.
Dani and Lily stopped their vehicles on the side of the road, “Here we GO!” Tyler make a sharp left and went flying though a open field stopping towards the middle of it.
“Alright...who wants to hit the BOOM button?” Tyler asked. “ME ME ME!” Both kids raised their hands and he laughed.
“Okay...here's what we will do.” he said. “You both come on up here in the front seat. One of you can sit with me and one of you with your mama.”
Billy crawled over to Tyler and settled in his lap while Harley wanted her mama. “Okay guys..get ready... You both are going to mash this button at the same time...then we're going to jump out of the truck to see the show...sound good?”
“Yeah!!” the kids giggled.
Billy put his hand over the red button first and little Harley put hers on top of her brothers. “one...two...BOOM!” Tyler called.
The kids mashed the button and Tyler and you jumped from the truck, each with one of the kids and watched the fireworks shooting off the truck. “AWESOME!” Billy danced around. “Pretty!” Harley smiled.
Tyler held Billy's hand as he walked over to you. “So...am I still crazy?” he asked.
“Yes!” You laugh, “I never thought anyone would even TRY to shoot fireworks off of their truck. And you do THIS in middle of a tornado?” you ask.
“Yep.” Tyler nodded.
“Boys...you all never grow up.” you laugh.
Tyler shrugged, “Maybe we just know how to have more fun.”
Once the fireworks were over he helped you secure the kids in the backseat again and opened the door for you.
“Thank you.” you nodded.
He jogged around to the drivers side and headed out the field, back to the road. “You guys are going to love my mom. Her name is Cindy. You guys like animals?” he asked.
“Yes...” both kids grinned.
“We have about a hundred acres. It was my granddad's farm and he passed it down to my dad. I suppose someday I'll be running it. We used to raise bulls for the rodeo, but after my dad passed, we just have our pets. Sometimes we might board horses here and there.”
“You live there now?” you asked.
“Yeah. My dad passed a few years back. It's just my mom and me now, so I help her whenever I am not out chasing.” Tyler turned into a long gravel driveway, “Well...here we are.”
He pulled up next to the front porch. Dani and Lily parked the other vehicles behind his truck.
Cindy was standing on the front porch waiting for you. Tyler got out and jogged over, opening the door for you and helping you out, then he opened the back door and lifted each kid out.
Four dogs meet you at the truck with wagging tails, “The shepherd is Flash because he's so fast. The blue heeler is Chase because he loves chasing everything..cats, chickens, goats...you name it. The yellow lab is Jake and the black lab is Bear. They'll all friendly dogs unless you are an animal that don't belong here. They protect the goats and chickens from the coyotes.” Tyler petted each dog as he introduced them.
“Mom, this is Y/N, Billy, and Harley.” he smiled. “Guys, this is my mom, Cindy.”
“Hello. Nice to meet you.” you smile.
“Hi Ms. Cindy.” Billy smiles at her.
“Hi.” Harley says shyly from behind your back.
“Well hello!” she greets you and the kids. “You know what...I was just fixing to make some cookies...who wants to help me?”
“Me!” Billy raised his hand.
“I like rocket rip wookies.” Harley smiled.
“Chocolate Chips are my FAVORITE!” Cindy smiled.
“Hey, if I help do I get cookies too?” Boone asked.
“YOU can have dinner if you help make it.” she shot Boone a playful look, “And I suppose a cookie too.”
“Hey, I am gonna show Y/N around a little bit.” Tyler said., “We'll be out in the barn if you need us.”
“You two go have fun. I'll bring the kids out to see the animals after the cookies are made.” Cindy shooed you and Tyler away with a wave of her hand.
“If you don't mind me asking...what happened to your house?” he asked softly, shuffling his feet on the ground as you two slowly walked to the barn.
“We used to have a little farm.” you tell him with a sigh. “It wasn't much, we had two horses, a dog, a few cats and some chickens. The kids aren't old enough to really remember it. After my husband and parents died I had to sell the farm. We couldn't afford the payments. My parents had a loan out on their house so it had to go to the bank. The life insurance just wasn't enough to save either house.” you fight back the tears. “We took the money we got and brought a house just outside of town...six months ago a tornado blew it away. There was nothing left.” you bite your lip and Tyler gives you a gentle hug, “I am so sorry. You didn't have insurance?” he asked softly.
You shook your head, “not nearly enough. A company called Storm Par came by and offered a cash offer. They said they were trying to help and I didn't know what else to do. I took the cash offer but it wasn't enough to get another house. A single parent working a dead end diner job I couldn't afford mortgage payments...so we got what we could fit into the car and that became our home.” silent tears rolled down your cheek. “Later on down the road, I found out that Storm Par pretty much stole the property. Even with the house gone, the property was worth a lot more then what they paid.” you wiped the tears away, “I love it here in Arkansas, I really do, but I just don't know what's right anymore. I married young, had children young, and now here I am a single mom, a widow, and homeless. What's next?”
Tyler offered you a smile, “You just need a few good friends to help you, that's all. It's takes a village to raise kids.”
“I need a village right about now.” you sigh.
“How about a handful of tornado wranglers?” he raised an eyebrow at you.
You shrug, “I'll take what I can get.”
“Great.” he stopped in front of a gate to the pasture. “How about this. I'll give you a ride into work tomorrow and just call me when your done with your shift. I don't expect to be out chasing storms tomorrow. Between all of us we can get you back and forth to work each day until you are able to get another car.”
“Thank you. That would be such a relief. They told me if I missed one day or was late again they would fire me. I definitely can't afford that.”
“Sounds like you may need a better boss.” he said.
“A better boss and a better job, but there's just nothing around here. I married just out of school and then life gets in the way. I never had the chance to go to college or anything.”
“Tell me...if you could do anything...what would be your dream job?” he asked, leaning against the fence rail.
“Photography.” you say without a second thought. “I used to love taking pictures.”
He nodded, “What did you take pictures of? People? Animals?”
“Everything! People, animals, flowers, storms, houses, even food.” you laugh.
“And you never got into photography, why?”
“Couldn't afford a camera, had to start work full time right out of school so never had time to devote to taking photos or taking classes or anything like that. It's like sometimes I wonder if there's life out there or has it already passed me by.”
You turn, hearing Billy and Harley yelling happily, “Mommy Mommy! We made cookies and had milk and now Ms. Cindy is gonna let us pet the horses!”
Laughing, you wrap your arms around your children hugging them close, “You know how I just said that I wondered if there's life out there?” you say looking up at Tyler. He nods and you smile, “This is it. These two little monsters here are my life...and I wouldn't trade them for the world.”
You and Tyler tag along behind his mom as she shows the kids each animal and even gives them a bottle to feed the goats with.
“So, have you always wanted to be a storm chaser?” you ask.
“No.” he said quickly. “I got started off in the rodeo. I was a bull rider. Then I got my head stomped on by one too many bulls and figured collage would be better for my brain.” he smiled, “I still wanted that thrill, that excitement. So I studied meteorology and met my team and then here we are. I love what I do, but definitely wasn't on my radar when I first started out.”
“Can we ride the horsey?” Harley was asking you with her big round eyes. “I love the horsey.”
“What one is your favorite?” Tyler scooped her up in his arms as you both walked over to where the horses were. “Dat one!” She pointed at a paint with one blue eye and one brown eye. “We call that one Baby.” he said. “She's a real gentle horse.”
“I love this one.” Billy was hugging the muzzle of a large black horse. “That there is Tucker. He's a good boy too.” Tyler said petting the side of the horses neck. He pointed to a tan horse out in the field, “That one there is Denver. He's older and a bit more shy, but very gentle.” he turned and looked at you, “You said you had horses at one time...did you ride?”
“Been a few years.” you answer.
“It's like riding a bike, you never forget.” he chuckled, “What you say we take the kids for a ride?”
“Can we mommy? Can we?” the kids started begging.
“I guess so, if it's okay with Mr. Tyler and Ms. Cindy.”
“You guys go have a good time. I am going to help Boone and the guys get some burgers and hot dogs on the grill.”
“Let's go.” Tyler handed you the reins for each horse and you were showing the kids how to put them on while he got the blankets and saddles.
“Harley, since you like Baby so much, would you like to ride with your mama on Baby?”
She nodded with a big smile. Tyler double checked the saddle and made sure it was tightened good, then held the reins while you placed Harley in the saddle, then pulled yourself up in one quick motion.
He handed you the reins then scooped Billy up in his arms, “It's you and me on Tucker. Is that okay with you buddy?”
Billy nodded leaning over to pet the horses long mane. Tyler placed him gently in the saddle then swung up himself, grabbing up the reins.
He made sure to keep the horses side by side as he lead you though the pasture and to a field of wildflowers. “It's peaceful out here.” he said, “I like to ride out here sometimes just to clear my mind.”
“It's beautiful.” you say.
“Can we pick some flowers for mommy's birthday?” Harley asked.
“When's mommy's birthday?” Tyler asked with a sly grin, looking from you to your daughter and back again.
“I...um...I think tomorrow?”
You laughed lightly, “No sweetie, it's not tomorrow. It's Friday, and I don't need any flowers. How about you draw me a picture?” you ask.
“Are you still gonna spend the day with us like you told our baby sitter?” Billy asked.
“Oh honey, I don't know right now, okay? We'll see how things go, but just as soon as I can I will spend the whole day with you. That's all I want for my birthday.”
“You know what.” Tyler said stopping his horse, “I think we need to pick your mama some wildflowers for her birthday now. Then maybe tomorrow you guys draw a picture?”
“Yeah! Thank you Mr. Tyler.” Harley smiled.
“There's no need for picking the flowers.” You protested, even as Tyler was already off his horse and lifting Billy down. “Sure we do.” he grinned, taking Harley from you and holding the reins while you dismounted.
He stood next to you as you both watched the kids running around picking all the flowers they wanted. “I loved growing up here. It was such freedom. Such peace and quite.” he said quietly. “I thought the whole entire world was at my back door.”
“I've always lived in the country.” you said. “I grew up on a little farm too. I don't like cities. Too big, too noisy. I can't hear my self think.”
“Ain't that the truth.” he grinned.
“Okay, we got flowers.” both kids came running back with a handful each.
“They are beautiful.” you hug each one and give them a quick kiss on the cheek, then turn to Tyler. “Thank you for this. You didn't have to do any of this. You have completely taken their mind off of everything that has happened and put them more at ease, gave them a little bit of normalcy in this chaos. How can I ever repay you?” you ask.
“Oh, I don't know.” he shrugged, lifting Harley up into the saddle and waiting for you to mount the horse before handing the reins back to you. He placed Billy back in the saddle and swung up, turning the horse around and you both start heading back towards the house at a slow walk.
“Maybe consider coming to work for me?” he asked after a moment.
“W..what?” you stumbled.
“You said you wanted to be a photographer, right?”
“Yeah, but I don't have any training...”
“Naw, I don't believe in that training crap. No one on my team has a former education, but they got more experience then any storm chaser out there. I could use a photographer on the team. Just get the shots. Boone and Lily handles the videos, but we can always use stills to sell. Also you have a vast amount of experience. You can post to our YouTube channel with support and advice to help others who are facing what you already faced. You've lost two homes, your husband, and your parents. All from a tornado. You know what a rip off Storm Par. You can bring comfort and support to people that we can't. You can reach out to people across the world on You Tube with your story.”
“I don't have a camera or anything. And I don't know who would even care to hear my story. It's just one of many.” you start.
“If you come to work for my team, then it's my responsibility to provide a camera. You'd be surprised at who would want to hear your story and how many people you can help with it. You have actually experienced this, and maybe you could put a dent in Storm Par's scam game.”
“I can't be on the road so long. I can't leave the kids.”
Tyler nodded, “I know and I wouldn't ask you to. We'll talk to my mom and I am sure she'd be happy to watch the kids when you are gone, but we will stay just within a few hours. Even if the team and I travel further away, I'll make sure you are home every night with the kids. What do you say? Wanna join the team?”
“What's the pay like? I don't think it can get much worse then the diner, but I am going to need a another car and I need to start saving to try and find a place to rent or something. I most defiantly can't take any kind of pay cut or lack of work.”
“Let me talk to my team tonight and see what we can come up with, okay? I'll make you an official job offer by tomorrow.”
“Sounds like a good plan to me. Thank you, for even considering me.” you smile
“No problem.”
The rest of the ride was in silence.
“I am going to get the horses put up.” Tyler said, “Then after dinner would it be okay if I took you to the store and got a few things that you will need for the kids?” he asked.
“I couldn't ask you to do that. We'll be okay.” you protest.
“Hey...it's okay to get a little help. It takes a village, remember? You pretty much lost everything you owned in a tornado. Let me help with a few things. Some clothes, toys, things like that.”
“I'll pay you back, for everything.”
“Don't worry about it.” he smiled, “we'll work something out later.”
“Thank you. You are like a angel sent from heaven or something.” you hold back the tears that threatened to fall. No one has ever reached out to help you like this and you truly were grateful.
Tyler laughed, “Oh I know plenty of people that will disagree with you on that one.”
“Y/N...bring the kids and come on over here!” Cindy was calling to you, “I've got those rooms ready for you.”
“Go ahead, I'll meet you at the house in a few.” Tyler smiled, watching you and the kids walk up to the house. 'What the hell has that tornado blew into my life.' he thought grinning. Things just felt so natural with you and he couldn't explain it. It felt like you belonged here.
“My room is downstairs,” Cindy was showing you and the kids around the house. “There's the kitchen, dining room, and living room. The washer and dryer is right behind that door there.” she pointed and lead you upstairs.
“Tyler's room is on the far end of the hall and there's a bathroom next to his room. There's two other bedrooms on this end with a bathroom.” she was explaining. “When they first got started, the team used to sleep here, so there's two twin beds in each room. I've cleaned them up, put fresh sheets on each bed, and got the bathroom cleaned for you. You and the kids can have your own bathroom down here on this end.”
“I wouldn't want to take the rooms away from the team.” you started.
“Oh no, you wouldn't be. That was a few years ago when they were just getting formed. Everyone has their own place within about an hour or so from here now. They don't stay here over night anymore. They take whatever chance they can to go back home between the storms.”
“Thank you so much.” you smile, giving a hug to Cindy. “How much am I going to owe you for all this?”
“Oh dear, don't worry about that. Maybe you can help me around the house with the animals and cleaning, cooking, and stuff. When you aren't working that is. I'll be happy to keep the kids here with me when you're working. You won't owe me a thing for that. This big old house gets empty when I am here all alone. Frankly, I am going to enjoy the company.”
“I'll be happy to help anywhere I can.” you promise. “Thank you so much again. I don't know what we would have done if Tyler didn't come by at just the right time or if you weren't kind enough to open your home to us.”
“We all need somebody, sweet girl.” Cindy patted your back, “Come on now. Let's eat!”
* * * * *
After dinner, everyone helped clean up and then the rest of the team headed off to their own homes for a few days before the next storm system developed. Cindy had offered to watch the kids and get them ready for bed while Tyler took you to the store and picked up some things that would be needed in the foreseeable future.
“Mr. Tyler, this is too much.” You were saying as he loaded two car seats into the shopping cart, which was already filled with clothes, boots, toys, bath stuff, and various kinds of drinks and snacks.
“You can call me Tyler, you know.” he smiled at you, “We are friends now...I would think.”
“We are.” you agreed, “But this is all too much.”
“It's all things you need. You and the kids need pajamas to sleep in, you need several changes of clothes for the week, you need brushes and bubble bath and things like that. Things guys know nothing about, but I know you need it.” he smiled. “It's not safe nor legal to drive without the kids in a car seat. You've GOT to have a car seat if we take them anywhere. The kids will need snacks and juice boxes and things like that. They are going to need several toys. Not just one, but they need several to choose from.”
“They've done without for a while now. We're used to it. We can get by until I get on my feet again.”
“I know you guys can get by and I know you can get on your feet again.” he said, “Let me help you along the way though. This is just some stuff to get you settled into mom's house for a while. That's all.”
You nod and wrap your arms around him in a hug, “Thank you Tyler. You really are a life savior.”
“No problem. I am happy to help out.” he said, “That's how my mama raised me.”

Unspoken Words -Part 2 (Final)
Warnings: Angst, injury, pregancy
Pairings: Tyler Owens/F Reader
Part 2 of a request recieved. Hope I captured what you were looking for. I did my best on it. Enjoy! *Part 1 here*
You slowly opened your eyes. Your head was pounding. You heard water dripping. Fighting against the blurry vision you tried to remember what happened. Slowly the memories came back. You tried to call Tyler, then the tornado siren went off and you ran down to the basement. “Tyler?” You called out. Why wasn't he here? Surely he knew about the tornado. He would have came for you or at least called you to make sure you were okay.
Searching around you found your phone and grabbed it up. No calls received, and no service...which was normal after a large tornado. Your mind flashed back to when Tyler tried calling you and left voice mails...which you didn't care to answer or even check at the time. He was trying to call you. He was trying to warn you and you were too stubborn to let go of your hurt and anger and answer...or maybe he was calling you because something happened. Did he get caught in the tornado? Is that why he isn't here now searching for you?
“I need you, Ty.” you whisper and put a hand on your stomach, “I need you and our unborn baby needs you. We love you.” tears streamed down you face as you slowly sat up and checked yourself for any injuries. Other then your throbbing head, you didn't feel pain anywhere else.
Around you though, was total destruction. A broken pipe from the ceiling was spraying water. Things were blown around the room, part of the ceiling was collapsed and you could hear people calling for each other.
You carefully stood up, having just enough space. The stairs you came down were now gone. You were surrounded by concrete and splinted wood.
From somewhere beyond where you were trapped, you could hear someone calling your name...and Tyler's” Quickly, you recognized the voices of Dexter, Lily, Dani, and Boone. They were here looking for you...but where was Tyler? Why wasn't he here? Why were they calling his name too? Fear gripped you as the realization sank in. Something had happened. Your body shook with sobs as you cried out 'I am here.' to the team, hoping they'd hear you. You had to get out of here and find out what happened to Tyler. You had to find him. “Please be okay, Ty. Please.” you mumbled though the tears.
“Y/N? Can you hear us?” Boone was calling. It sounded like he was right on top of you.
“Here! I am here!” You called.
“We hear you. We're coming.” the team worked quickly tossing debris off to the side. “Are you okay? You hurt?”
“Tyler...where is Tyler?” you cried, afraid of the answer you'd hear.
You heard the work stop and there was a long silence. “He isn't with you?” Boone asked.
“No. He left last night to go chasing today.” you were now shaking, hugging your legs to yourself. “ I am okay, but I need Tyler. Find him.”
“We will, honey.” Dani said, “But we gotta get you out of here first.”
“Boone, did you see Tyler at all?” you asked, a new fear rising. Maybe Tyler just left town. Left you. Maybe he was done, just like you said you were. Maybe, he no longer loved you or cared what happened. You hoped this was the case, rather then he was out there hurt or worse.
“Yeah, he crashed on my sofa last night.” Boone said. “Then went chasing with us today, until we realized the storm was going to develop here, and not to the north like expected. Tyler kicked me out of the truck and floored it. We were about a half hour from here, but he was trying to beat the storm. He wanted to get to you and make sure you were safe. No weather stations were reporting it. We were trying to alert the stations from the van and Tyler was racing to get to you. We agreed to meet here.
You heard the worry in the teams voices as they kept working to remove debris to free you. “Is...is his truck out there?” your voice strained against the tears.
“No...it's total destruction out here, but I am not seeing his truck anywhere.” Boone said just as they flew a board to the side, opening up a space. You could see the sunset sky...and nothing else. The house was completely flattened.
“I am going now to report him missing,” Dexter said, “I am sure they are overwhelmed right now, but at least they will have him listed and more people can be looking.”
Boone helped you out and hugged you close, seeing your red swollen eyes. “You got a nasty gash on your head, let's go get it checked out.” he said softly.
“No. I want to find Ty first.” you were shaking.
“I know sweetie.” Lily took you head, “And we are going to start looking. We know the road he most likely was on. Maybe he's just broke down or got stuck. There's no cell service right now so he wouldn't be able to call. We gotta get you checked out though.”
“I want to go look for him.” your voice was filled with determination.
“We've been here for two hours. It took us almost an hour to get into town. The roads are completely covered.” Boone said. “It's getting dark and we can't see. Let's get you checked out. Lily, Dani, and Dexter will keep checking the area for any signs of Tyler or his truck. We'll ask everyone around. Once you are clear, we'll go drive the roads and look, okay?”
You nod softly and wait until Boone leads you away from the others, “I don't want the other's to know yet.” you say softly, “Actually I wanted Ty to be the first to know, but if something happens...I need someone else to know.”
“Know what?” Boone asked.
“I am pregnant. 8 weeks. Today I wanted to tell Ty since it was Father's Day. That's why we fought last night. That's why he went to your house.”
“Congratulations.” Boone pulled you into a hug, “We will have to tell the medics, let them check on the baby. I won't say anything to anyone else though. T is going to be so happy.”
You nod as the tears start falling again, “I didn't tell him I loved him yesterday. I told him I didn't care if he came back. I told him to leave.”
“Shh, it's okay.” he whispered, rubbing your shoulders, “T understands. He knew you were mad and he was hurt, but I know he forgave you. You were the first thing he thought of when that storm changed.”
You reach the ambulance and Boone explains what happened and that you were pregnant. They take you in and sit you on a stretcher and begin asking a number of questions. Finally, what seemed like hours, they put a bandage on your head and told you all looked just fine.
“Let's go find Tyler.” You almost ran from the ambulance. If the team had been there for three hours before finding you, and then you spent about an hour getting checked out..that was at least four hours that Tyler had been out there somewhere.
“Any word?” Boone asked Dexter.
“No. They've checked the hospital lists and accident reports. There is no sign of Tyler nor the truck. He's officially listed as a missing person, along with about a hundred other people. There's not much they can do now. Phones are still down so we can't be calling around checking our self.”
“I want to go look for him. See if we can find the truck or anything.”
“Let's go.” Boone said, running to the van. “I'll come too.” Lily said, “The drone mainly collects data, but we just recently put a camera and night vision on it. We'll put it up and get a bigger picture.”
“Thank you.” you whisper.
* * * * *
“Y/N...” your name was the first thing Tyler muttered, fighting against the blackness. His vision was blurry, pain coursed though his body. He slowly became aware that he was hanging upside down and it was increasingly hard to breathe. His chest was filled with pain as he gasped for air.
He couldn't remember exactly what happened, he knew there was a tornado headed for the house and he had to get to you..did he make it? “Y/N...” he called your name again. Slowly he remembered the phone ringing, then the truck flipping.
Tyler's body shook from the cold or the loss of blood. He didn't know which one anymore. If he remembered right it was middle of June, so his guess was that it wasn't that cold, even for night.
His eyes scanned the truck, trying to locate his phone. 'Gotta get out of here.' he felt like a weight was pressing against his chest, crushing his heart and lungs together. He knew it was going to kill him if he kept hanging upside down. First thing was first. He had to free the seat belt.
“Come on dammit.” he muttered, his vision going blurry and blackness fighting to take over again. Finding the buckle for the seat belt he pulled, but couldn't loosen it.
“I am so sorry baby...” Tyler muttered, wondering what you were going though right now. Were you safe? Were you missing him? Did you even know he was missing? Fighting against the unconscious threatening to over take him and gasping for air, he closed his eyes against the pain and tried one last time to get free from the seat belt.. As he gave the seat belt another hard pull, his hand brushed against a sharp object and pain shot though his stomach. The sharp object was stuck in stomach, he was guessing it was glass. He touched it for a moment, his breathing now coming in slow raspy gasps.
He could pull the glass out of him and maybe cut the seat belt before losing conscious again...but risk bleeding to death within minutes. Or he could leave the glass be and slowly suffocate from the pressure of his organs pressing against his heart and lungs. Tears streamed down his face as he slowly came to realize he was dying. Either way, he would never see you again. His thoughts shot to the box that he hoped was still in his pocket. He wondered what you would think when someone found it and handed it to you. Would the golden engagement ring that he has held on for the past two months, trying to find the right time to ask you to be his wife, be enough to make you realize how deeply he loved you. Or would he die here, and you would go on about your life and never truly understand the depth of his love. He just always thought he had more time. Tyler left his hand fall loosely, hitting against the roof of the truck as he gasped again for air. It was getting harder and harder to breath. His last thought was a prayer that you were safe, that you got to the basement in time. He knew the team would take care of you and he prayed you would find happiness with someone who loved you at least half as much as he did.

“I'm not seeing anything.” Lily sighed, flying her drone over the destroyed homes and along the road. “Really, he could be anywhere between here and sixty miles from here.”
“Wait!” You scream and Boone slammed on the breaks.
“What is it?”
“Skid marks.” You point to the road, where black skid marks ran from one side of the road to the other and then into the grass and...nothing.”
“Could have been there for a while.” Boone stated.
“Checking it out.” Lily moved the drone over the the forested area the tire tracks disappeared into.
“Oh my God, there's something down there!” She gasped, “It's a vehicle that's upside down. I don't know what kind or anything.”
“Call 911, it should go though even without service.” Boone yelled taking off and running.
“I am coming with you...what if it's him..” you cried.
“No Y/N. Stay. It's too risky.” Boone yelled and slid down the embankment.
“911 what is your emergency.” the operator answered.
“We need ambulance. Truck upside down over embankment.” you said, giving the road and nearest location.
“It's him! It's Tyler!” Boone yelled up and you heard the tears in his voice.
“How many occupants?” The operator asked in a monotone.
“Ty! NO!” You screamed, breaking from the hug Lily had you in and slide down the hill.
“Miss...how many people are in the truck.” the operator said.
“One.”
“Y/N no...stay back.” Boone was pulling a knife from his pocket.
“How is he?” you asked trembling. “Send help now!” you screamed at the operator on the phone.
“Miss, help is on the way. I need you to stay calm.”
“He's trapped upside down.” Boone shook his head, “I am cutting the seat belts.”
“Miss, is the person breathing?”
Boone got the belts cut and was pulling Tyler's limp body from the truck.
“Miss...I need you to answer me.” the operator's voice filled with impatience.
Not saying a word, Boone started doing compressions and you fell at Tyler's side. “No...no he's not.” you whisper into the phone.
“Do you know how to perfo....”
“Yes CPR is in progress. Just send help!” You scream at her, hearing sirens in the distance.
“Help is on the way miss. Stay on the phone with me until they arrive.”
You breathe two breaths into Tyler's lungs when Boone nods at you and he starts compressions again.
“We've got it from here. We've got it from here.” Medics were sliding down the embankment and pushing you and Boone out of the way.
They started up the AED machine and placed a bag over his face forcing air into his lungs. “Clear!” one medic yelled, and you saw Tyler's body jump with the electric shock.
You crumbled to the ground in uncontrollable sobs and Boone sits next to you, holding you tightly, tears streaming down his own face.
“Clear....” you hear them shout again.
“We got a pulse. Go Go Go.” The medics were yelling.
“I am coming.” you yell following them.
“Me too.” Boone stated.
“Sorry, only one person.” The medic called.
“Sir, she's pregnant and this is the baby's father. I need to be there for her.” Boone stated.
The medic nodded. “Get in.”
“I'll go get Dexter and Dani and will meet you there.” Lily called.
Boone nodded and sat next to you in the ambulance. You took Ty's hand in yours, noticing how limp, cold and lifeless it felt. “I love baby. I need you...our baby needs you.” you whisper though your tears.
You sat there holding Tyler's hand in yours, “I am here. I am not going anywhere.” you kept whispering. You listened to the uneven beeps of the various monitors they had hooked up. You didn't know what they meant, but the medics were talking about oxygen levels being dangerously low, irregular heartbeats, and dropping body temp.
It seemed to be hours, but you knew it was only minutes before the ambulance pulled into the emergency room entrance to the hospital.
“He's crashing again!” one of the medics yelled, “Code Blue! Code Blue.” they rushed Tyler away from you and into the hospital.
A nurse came up, wrapping an arm around your waist and leading you to a waiting room. “Is there anyone we can call for you?” she asked tenderly.
You shook your head, “No, our friends are on their way.”
“The doctor will be out just as soon as they know anything. If you need anything just let us know, sweetie.”
You sink down into a sofa, pulling your knees up to your chest, you wrap your arms around your legs and break down in sobs. Boone sits next to you, holding you in a hug, “You got to calm down, remember the baby. This can't be good for the baby.”
“Who's here for Tyler Owens?” A nurse called.
“Here.” You stand up on wobbly legs and would have feel back down if it weren't for Boone.
“Here's his things. They're taking him back for surgery.” She handed you a small bag with a wallet and a small black box in it along with a larger bag with his clothes.
You clutch the bag to your chest and sink back into the sofa taking deep gasping breaths. For the first time the true reality of actually losing Tyler hit your chest like a ton of bricks.
“Can I have some help here?” Boone called, trying to get a nurses attention without leaving your side.
“You got to calm down.” Boone was whispered, “Remember the baby. Please calm down.”
A nurse runs up to you and takes your hand, “Miss, you're having a panic attack, come with me.”
You keep the bag clutched in your figures as the nurse leads you back to a room.
Boone buries his face in his hands and breaks down in sobs. This should have been a joyous occasion and now two of his best friends were in the hospital.
“Hey, where's Y/N?” Lilly asked as the team ran up to Boone.
“They've admitted her. Gave her a sedative to calm her down. She was having panic attacks.” He sighed.
“Any word on Tyler?” Dani asked.
Boone shook his head, “They brought out his things, said he's in surgery but that's all I know.”
“Was the ring in there?” Lily asked.
Boone nodded, “I am not sure Y/N realized what it was yet though.”
They knew about Tyler's plans to propose to you. He had showed them the ring on the first day and he had talked almost non stop about how he wanted to propose. He just couldn't settle on the perfect moment.
The four friends leaned back on the waiting room sofa with a heavy sigh. Waiting was the worst part.
* * * *
You awoke to Boone and Lily sitting by your bedside. Your eyes were still heavy with sleep as you struggled to remember what exactly had happened. Then, it all came rushing back to you at once and you cried out, “Tyler! Is he okay?” You looked desperately between Boone and Lily for some answers “Is the baby okay?”
Lily shot you a confused look, then looked over at Boone, “What baby?”
“We are still awaiting word on Tyler. It's been several hours, but last we checked he was still in surgery. We don't know anything else yet.” Boone took your hand, “Your baby is fine. They just gave you something to calm you down and help you rest a little.” Then he turned to Lily, “I wasn't suppose to tell you, but since Y/N let the cat out of the bag...Her and Tyler are expecting. He doesn't know...that's why she got upset when he went on a chase with us. It was suppose to be a special night.”
Tears rolled down your eyes, “I should never have gotten mad at him. I normally wouldn't have been so mad. I would have been hurt, but not that mad. Not to do what I did. I couldn't even say I love you. I told him I didn't care if he never came back...what if...what if those were the last words he ever hears from me?”
Lily squeezed your hand, “Hey now...you have to calm down and stop thinking like that. Hormones make you do things like that. You might be laughing one minute, crying the next and then be madder then hell...and never know why.”
Just at that moment the doctor walked in, “Well good to see your awake. How are you feeling?” he asked softly.
“I am worried about my boyfriend, the baby's father.” you sob.
“I see. Well, as far as I know there's no update on him yet. You on the other hand, I am going to go ahead an release. I don't want to give you anything over the counter because too much sedatives could harm the baby. I would suggest using things like a weighted blanket, hot tea, good friends, music, or reading a book to help calm your nerves. If you have another panic attack though and are unable to calm down, you'll need to come back here.”
You nod, “Thank you doctor.”
Boone steps out of the room and Lily helps you to get up and dressed while you wait for the doctor to come back with your release papers. Once you're dressed, you pick up the bags that had Tyler's things in it, and for the first time, notice the small black box.
“What's this?” you ask, opening up the bag.
“That..” Lily whispered softly, “Is something Tyler has kept in his pocket for the last two months. He was so excited, but he just didn't know the right time or place.”
You opened up the box and saw a beautiful gold band and a sparkling diamond.
“Look at the inside of it.” Lily whispered, trying to hold back her tears.
You turn it over and read the inscription “You are my anchor in the storm”
Tears roll down your cheeks as you put the ring back in the box with shaky hands. “I can't lose him, Lily. I just can't.”
She pulls you into a hug, “It'll be okay. Ty is tough, he'll be okay.”
* * * * *
It was well into morning the next day when finally someone stepped into the waiting room. “Who's here for Tyler Owens?”
You stand up on shaky legs. The team stands with you.
“Come with me.” he motioned and the five of you step behind the swinging doors.
“He's out of surgery and in recovery. He hasn't woken up yet, but I expect him to make a full recovery. He had a collapsed lung and bleeding on the brain, both of those I believe is from him being upside down for so long. The glass that stabbed him in the stomach had caused internal bleeding and his lower left leg was broken. We've got everything repaired. He's looking at a long recovery and at least six weeks of non weight baring on the leg, but I do believe he is going to be okay.”
“Thank you doctor.” you cry. “Can I see him?”
“One of you can sit with him in recovery. Once he wakes up we'll move him to a normal room and then we can allow three at a time.”
“Go...be with him. Let us know if you need anything. We'll be right out in the waiting room.” Lily urged.
You nervously follow the doctor down the long hallway and he opens a door. Slowly you walk in, “Ty...” you whisper softly, taking a seat next to his bed and holding his hand in yours. This time his hand felt warm, tender, and strong. You allowed yourself to smile slightly. It might be a hard road ahead, but things were going to be okay. “I love you.” you whisper, kissing his hand.
“Love you too Darling.” his voice was weak, low and raspy, but he was opening those gorgeous green eyes and looking at you. “I am sorry I wasn't there. I tried.”
“Shh, it's okay. I am sorry for all the terrible things I said...”
“I forgive you. Actually, I deserved it.” he took a few deep breaths, fighting off the urge to go back to sleep. “Y/N...I need you in my life. I need you by my side. You are my world. You are...”
“your anchor in the storm?” you finish, holding up the ring box.
He smiled the biggest smile ever, “You found it!” then he frowned, “But you aren't wearing it? Does that mean...does that mean the answer is no?”
“I don't know. You haven't asked me the question yet.” you grin.
“Y/N...will you marry me?” he asked, his eyes searching yours.
“Yes, Tyler Owens. Yes I will marry you.” You lean over, kissing his lips softly.
“Give me that.” he takes the ring from you and slips it on your figure. “I love you with all my heart.”
“That's good to hear, because I have something I need to tell you too.”
“What's that?”
You smile, taking his hand and placing it on your stomach, “In about 7 months there's going to be a little tornado coming into this world.”
Tyler was crying, but this time it was tears of happiness as he pulled you down into a hug. “I am the happiest man on earth right now.” he sobbed. “Together, we can weather any storm. “

Part 3 (Final Part)
A few hours later, Tyler and you were riding the horses side by side down a state park trail. The dogs were running a head and both of you seemed lost in thought.
“Remember when we first met? I think I was about fifteen.” he smiled, glancing over at you.
“Sure do. Your uncle had just brought the house and you walked over to talk to my dad about bull riding.”
“I thought your dad was going to just take me out back and put me on a bull and tell me everything I needed to know. Instead he strings up this 50 gallon drum between two trees and tells me to ride that first.” Tyler laughs.
“I remember you falling off of that barrel a lot.” you grinned.
“If I remember right, you were washing down your horse and turned around and sprayed me with the hose.” Tyler smirked.
“Only because you kept complaining about how hot it was! I was trying to help!”
You both laughed, then Tyler said, “We sure did have some good times back then. It was like we were inseparable. I was always over at your house or you were at mine. We went to the same rodeos and sometimes you would come with me and the guys to have a few drinks.”
“I also remember you scaring away any cowboy that dared asked me out.” you glared.
“Well...I had a crush on you.” Tyler blushed, looking down. This might have been the first time he actually admitted having feelings for you, and it was more then a crush.
“Really? Well, you had a poor way of showing it. You never did ask me out on a date.”
He was silent for a moment. “I had a crush on you the first day I saw you.” he said softly, “then as time went on, as the years went by, that crush grew. I was head over heels in love with you. Why do you think I threw myself in front of that bull for you? It would have killed me if something happened to you.”
You were silent for a moment, tears threatening to fall before you spoke in a broken voice, “Then why did you push me away? You acted like you hated me after the accident. YEARS went by with me calling you every day, then every week, then every month until I finally just gave up. You never answered my calls, never returned them....nothing.”
“I was scared.” he said softly, biting his lip. “As a teen I was scared to ask you out. I thought I wasn't good enough for you. I was shy. As we got a little older I still didn't think I was good enough for you. I thought maybe once I made the PBR and became someone important, starting making enough money to take care of you...then maybe I could ask you out.”
“Tyler, I...” you paused, “I loved you from day one. I used to day dream about us getting married and having a family. Your uncle and my dad could combine business and our two farms could become one. I couldn't wait to see you, I couldn't stand being apart from you, but you acted like you never wanted to be more then friends,.”
“I am really sorry, Y/N.” Tyler said softly, allowing a tear to roll down his cheek. “I will always regret the day I told you to leave. I was scared, I didn't know if I had future or what that future would look like. I didn't want you having to take care of me or anything.”
You sighed, turning the horses around to head back, “Well, at least we found our way back home again.”
“Fifteen years ago...” Tyler whispered, reaching for your hand. You stop your horse next to his and take his hand as he gazed into your eyes, “Fifteen years ago, Y/N...and I still feel the same way. I am still madly in love with you.” he choked back the tears.
You squeeze his hand, “I've never stopped loving you.”
“So are we gonna do this or what?” he grinned.
“Depends...when are we going to ever go on an official date. I think fifteen years is a little too long to wait for a guy to ask me out on a date.”
“Will you go out with me, Y/N? Dinner on Friday? I'll pick you up at seven?”
“It's a date.” you agree.
* * * * *
It was just getting dark when Tyler pulled into his drive way, “I'll get the horses put up and give you a ride home.”
“Okay.” you force a smile, but he hears your shaky voice.
“Sweetheart, what's wrong?” he asked concerned.
“Nothing.” you brush it off.
Tyler reaches across the seat and takes your hand in his, “I know something is bothering you...I hear it in your voice. What is it Darling?” he asks softly.
You took a deep breath before answering, “Last night I was scared of every little noise. I kept thinking someone was out there trying to break in again. I have never been scared being by myself before, but...I have that same feeling now...like I am dreading the night.”
“It's okay Darling. It's completely understandable.” he squeezed your hand, “that's why I slept in my truck last night in your yard. I wanted to make sure you were safe. Do you want me to stay with you tonight?”
“Yes please.” you whisper, turning your eyes to meet his, “I am sorry for being such a chicken.”
“Sweetheart, you are anything but a chicken. You're one of the strongest people I know. It's okay to need someone though. It's okay to let someone take care of you.” he leaned closer to you and brushed his hand gently along your cheek, “Let me take care of you. Let me be your protector, your shelter in the storm...your safe place.”
You nod and Tyler leans in slowly, brushing his lips against yours. “I love you, Y/N.” he mumbled against your lips. “Sorry it took me fifteen years to say it.”
“Love you too.” you whisper.
* * * * *
Later that night, you were sleeping with your head on his chest, one arm loosely draped over his stomach and his arm protectively wrapped around you. A loud banging noise caused you both to jump awake.
“Stay here...” Tyler whispered
“Ty...don't go. What if it's him.” you whisper, your voice shaking.
You hear the noise again and the sound of the door knob rattling, “Call the police and STAY here. No matter what, do not come out of this room until the police arrive or I come back and get you.” he said sternly, slipping out the bedroom door.
Tyler was standing next to the door, listening to the person trying to pick the lock. Suddenly, Tyler swung the door open and grabbed the person by the shirt in one swift movement, throwing them to the ground.
His eyes trained on the man in front of him, he recognized the guy from the bar, “You stupid son of a “ Tyler seethed as the man jumped back to his feet. He threw a punch at Tyler, which he ducked and picked the man up over his shoulder, throwing him back to the ground. “What's the matter, one ass whopping wasn't enough for you?” Tyler yelled, kicking the man, then picking him back up by the shirt, throwing more punches.
“I am sorry. I am sorry...I ….didn't know you were here.” the guy said
“So you thought you were going to break into the house and go after my girl when she was alone?” Tyler seethed, throwing the man up against his truck, “she would have shot your ass, which might have been better then what I am about to do to you.”
Hearing sirens in the distance, Tyler slammed the man back up against the truck again, reaching in the bed of the truck he pulled out some rope, tying his hands together and tying him to the truck.
“Ty? You okay?” you called from the door way.
“I am right here sweetheart.” he called, walking over to you.
You looked at Ty and over at the man that now had a bloodied face and was tied to the back of Tyler's red dodge ram.
“I was going to take him for a little drive down the road.” Tyler grinned, “Too bad the cops got here first.” added as blue lights sped up the driveway, lighting up the yard.
“Thank you.” you whispered as he pulls you against him in a hug and softly kisses your lips.
“Anytime, Sweetheart.” Tyler held you closer to him as you talked to the police and gave them your statement.
“Shall we go back to bed and do some catching up?” he mumbled against your ear once the police left.
“I've been waiting a long time for you to make that offer.” you grinned as he lead up back to the bedroom.
I love the way you write! Do you ever take requests? If so, could you do something where Tyler and Female Reader are dating and they have a big fight before he goes on a chase. She either says she doesn't love him or doesn't want him to come back or something like that. He leaves heartbroken and then is in a bad accident or maybe he's badly hurt and missing? Lots of regreat for things said or not? Whatever you can come up with like that, as long as they remain together at the end! Thank you!
A/N: I have never done requests before and I hope I have done this right. Thank you so much for the request, I really loved the idea so I gave it my best shot. I hope you love it. This will be at least a two part story. I'll post the second part as soon as I get it done.
Unspoken Words
Warnings: Mention of sex, unplanned pregnancy, car accident, injury, lots of angst, maybe a few swear words
Part 1
Tyler Owens watched the weather forecast and double checked his own data with a worried look. “They're calling for storms tomorrow.” he called, “From my data it looks to be a big outbreak about an hour or so from here.”
“Remember I told you that I was making special plans for tomorrow?” you reminded him.
“Huh?” he frowned, “Oh yeah. You did tell me that last week, didn't you. Sorry, Darling. I forgot. Can we just reschedule or something?”
You felt tears stinging your eyes. “You always fucking do this, Tyler.” you slammed a plate down in the sink. “Just forget it. You wouldn't care anyhow.”
“Darling...why are you so upset?” he stood with concern on his face. Sure, you got mad sometimes. He hurt your feelings sometimes, but you normally didn't get this upset this fast. “I just suggested that we could change whatever plans you had tomorrow night to another night...a night that's not a major tornado outbreak.”
“Tomorrow night was something special to me Tyler...but you don't give a damn. What am I, just something fun to do on the side?” tears were streaming down your face now as you yell at him, “You never really loved me at all, did you?”
“Y/N! Darling!” Tyler went towards you, his face showing the heartbreak he felt. You push him away as he reached out to you and run into the bedroom, slamming the door and locking it.
“Honey...please don't do this. You know my job. You know I gotta be there for a big tornado outbreak...”
“Just go!” you seethed.
“I don't have to leave until tomorrow morning.” Tyler said softly. “I can make it up to you tonight. When I get back we can do your special night.”
“Don't even act like you care now. Just leave. The team, the tornadoes, everything is more important then I am. When was the last time you took me on a date, Tyler?” You yelled.
He started to answer and tears filled his eyes as he realized he couldn't remember the last time you two had actually been on a date.
“That's what I thought.” you seethed. “Now tell me how many times you have canceled our plans because of tornadoes or the team needed you. Some bullshit other then me. You don't care that I need you. You push me aside to do whatever else you want, then come home and think having sex makes up for it all. Well I am done Tyler. I am done with it all. I am done with you. You don't want me? That's fine. I don't want you anymore either, so just get the fuck out!” you sobbed.
He leaned against the door, wanting nothing more then hold you in his arms and tell you how much he loved you, how special you were to him, that you were his whole world. Tyler and you had been dating for about three years and just moved in with each other this year. You were used to him going chasing storms, sometimes at the last minute and sometimes for weeks at a time. However, you had some big news to share with him and you had put a lot of time and effort into a special meal tomorrow. It just seemed like Tyler could care less about your feelings and right now, it was tearing you apart.
“I am sorry, Y/N.” was all he was able to whisper though his tears. He prayed this wasn't the end of his relationship with you. “I have something important to ask you. Can we talk before I leave? I was planning on talking to you about it tonight.” he whispered.
“I am done talking Tyler! I don't care what you have to say. Just leave. I don't care if you ever come back here or not.” you spat.
Tyler's heart shattered. You never talked to him like that, especially before he left on a chase. You both knew that storm chasing was dangerous and there was always that risk that he wouldn't come back.
He pulled a black box out of his pocket and stared at it and then at the door. “Y/N, please? Can we talk just for a minute before I leave.” he whispered. “You know I don't like leaving for a chase with us being upset.”
You didn't answer. “I love you.” he whispered.
“I doubt that.” you scoffed.
Tyler couldn't stop the tears from falling. He didn't know how he had hurt you so badly, but he knew he had messed up bad. You didn't even believed he loved you anymore. He eyed his overnight bag on the sofa that he had packed in case they got a hotel tomorrow. “You want me to leave?” he asked, his voice cracking with sobs.
“I can't stand to even look at you right now. Yes, leave.” you yell, curling up on the bed and sobbing.
“Alright. I am going to go crash at Boone's tonight. If you change your mind, call me. Darling, I really want to talk to you. I want to make this right.”
You didn't answer, so he picked up his bag and stood at the bedroom door. “I love you.” he called. It was a thing you two always did before he went on a chase. No matter what, you made sure the last words said to each other was “I love you.”
He waited, but you didn't answer. “Darling, I love you more then anything...”
“Drop the shit Tyler. You can't say you love me and never back it up with actions. Just get the hell out and don't worry about coming back. I doubt I'll be here if you do.”
Tyler's head dropped, his shoulders slumped as he shuffled to the door. Maybe he had messed up one too many times. Maybe this time, you really didn't love him anymore. He had failed you, he had failed to show you how much he loved you and now...he was scared to death that he had lost you.
He walked out the door, closing it tightly behind him and tossed the bag in the back of the truck. He took one last look at the house before driving off with sobs racking his body. He could only pray that you calmed down by the time he came home.

The Next Day
* * * * * * * *
“So, T...are you crashing at my place today or has Y/N forgiven you?” Boone asked while they were stationed at a gas station, waiting to see which way the storms were going.
“I don't know.” Tyler snapped.
“Didn't you call her?” Boone asked.
“No. Not yet.” he was still mad and hurt about how things happened yesterday. “I just don't get what was so damn special today!”
“I don't know, man. Women can be impossible to understand.”
“Is that why you don't have a girlfriend?” Tyler quipped.
“Well at least I am not getting kicked out of my own house!”
“It's her house too.” Tyler sighed, looking at his phone for the hundredth time that morning, hoping you were going to call him.
“Make the first move man. Call her.” Boone said. “Even if she's still is pissed and hangs up on you or doesn't answer...call her.”
“Fine.” Tyler picks up the phone and calls your cell waiting for you to answer until it goes to voice mail.
“Hey Darling. I am really sorry about how things went yesterday. Call me back. I love you.” he tossed the phone down to the floor of the truck, “Some good that did.”
“Oh shit...oh shit no.” Boone looked at the radar.
“What is it?” Tyler looked over and his heart dropped. A large storm cell was forming just outside of the city you lived in. The weather reports weren't calling for anything bad, but Tyler knew by the looks of it. The tornado outbreak wasn't going to happen here...it was going to happen right over his town, his house...where you were.
“Give me the damn phone! Boone, go ride with Lily.” Tyler barked. “We aren't chasing this one, but I am going to drive like a bat at of hell and try to get home before it hits. I don't want Y/N there alone. She may not even know what's coming.”
“We'll head that way and meet you at your house.” Boone retrieved Tyler's phone from the floor of the truck and hurried to Lily's van. Tyler's truck could drive much faster then the RV or Van and was the only hope of reaching you on time.
Tyler swore when his call went straight to your voice mail again, “Darling listen to me. A tornado outbreak is heading your way. It could be bad. It's not being reported yet by the weather stations. I am on my way home. I am on my way, baby. Get to the basement and wait for me there. I love you.”
He threw his phone down in the passengers seat and put the pedal to the metal speeding toward home. He was about half an hour away, the storm looked to be about 15 minutes away. If he was quick enough, maybe, just maybe he could beat it.
* * * * *
You glanced at the phone as it dinged, alerting you to yet another voicemail. It was Tyler again and you didn't care to answer and you didn't care to listen to the voicemail. Right now you didn't want to hear anything that he had to say.
You heart was breaking over how things ended last night. For the first time that you could remember since being together, you didn't tell him you loved him before he left and that kept nagging at the back of your mind. What if something happened. Did he know that you loved him? At the same time, you were still hurt that he never put your needs first. It was nothing to him to cancel plans if it meant chasing another storm. You were still mad and weren't ready to make up yet.
Tears start brimming in your eyes. Why did you get so upset last night? Did it really matter if you had your special dinner tonight or tomorrow or next week? You look at the piece of paper now laying on the counter. You wanted it to be special. You wanted to tell Tyler Owens on Father's Day that he was about to become a father. You still felt terrible for the way you acted. The only thing you could guess was hormones were at work.
You grab your phone and call Tyler. You had to apologize and you had to make sure you said those three little words...”I love you.”
You sigh when it went straight to voicemail. “Tyler...I am sorry for last night. I am so terribly sorry. We need to talk, it's something amazing...at least I hope it is. We will talk when you get home. I love you, Tyler. Always and Forever, I love you.”
* * * * *
Tyler was pushing 110 and was only about five minutes away. The storm was probably about 4 minutes away but he was determined to get to Y/N no matter what. The ringing of his phone pulled his attention away from the road. He normally wouldn't look at the phone while driving, but..it could have been you. He saw your name and picture on the phone and leaned over to try to grab it.
Suddenly, the truck swerved and he grabbed the wheel, over correcting. Tires squealed as Tyler fought with the steering wheel. The alert was blaring on his phone now, warning him of the tornado that was approaching his house. He wasn't going to make it in time. 'Please be in a safe place, Y/N.' he whispered. The truck skidded off the road, the tires catching in the wet grass and it flipped, end over end, rolling down a steep embankment. Tyler curses under his breath, forgetting to put on the harness...his seat belt was barley keeping him in the seat. Pain shot though his body and he couldn't tell where it was coming from anymore. Glass shattered as the truck slammed against a tree, landing upside down. “I love you..” he whispered just before his body went limp.
* * * * *
You heard the sirens blaring, your phone alerting you, and you heard the roaring winds outside. You ran down the stairs into the basement, all the time thinking of Tyler. Did he know the tornado was here? He could have stayed home with you and seen a tornado, he didn't have to chase. You wondered if he knew that and choose to leave just to get away from you. After how you treated him, you didn't blame him.
“Hang on little one.” you whisper, putting a hand on you stomach. “This is your first tornado. We'll be okay.” a tear rolled down you cheek, wishing Tyler was there, his protective arms around you.

A/N: Thank you for the likes! Hope you enjoying the story. I am planning on one more chapter maybe to finish this one up.
Catch up here with Part 1
Tyler was awoken later that night by sirens, or what he thought was sirens. He peeked out the window, and saw blue lights going down your drive way.
He grabbed his cell phone quickly calling your number as he ran out to his truck, still wearing nothing but his boxers.
“Tyler?” you answer your phone and he could tell you were crying.
“What happened? Are you okay? I am on my way now.” he said in one breath.
“Someone tried to break in. They were trying to kick down the door then broke a window.” you couldn't stop the tears and he heard the tremble in your voice.
“I am pulling up to your house now. See you in a minute.”
He barley got the truck parked before jumping out and running over to you, wrapping his arms around you. You were giving a statement to the police officer.
“And you are?” the police officer looked at Tyler.
“I am her neighbor, Tyler Owens.” he said.
“Any idea who could have been around here?” the officer asked, addressing both of you.
“There was a creep at the bar tonight.” Tyler said. “We got into a little altercation when he put his hands on the lady. I followed her home and didn't see anyone following us. Other then that though. I don't know.”
“Ever have trouble out this way before?” he asked.
You shake your heard, “No, I have always felt safe here. Never have had anyone prowling around.”
The officer asked for a description of the guy from the bar, which you gave. They promised to keep a patrol car out this way and would be on the lookout. Other then that, there wasn't nothing else they could do.
Once the officers left, Tyler turned to you. “They broke the window?” he asked.
You nodded, showing him the front porch window smashed with a rock. “I had my daddy's gun and told them I was going to shoot and the police were on the way.” You were shaking, “They took off running.”
“I'll get some stuff in town and fix the window tomorrow.” Tyler told you, “In the mean team, come on over to my house. There's a guest bedroom you can sleep in for the rest of the night.”
“Okay, thank you.” You wipe the tears from your eyes as Tyler pulls you into a hug. “It'll be alright.” he whispered.
You lay your head on his chest, arms tightly wrapped around him, just taking in his scent. You felt safe and protected as Tyler lead you to his truck, opening the door.
Within a minute, you were over at his place and he was leading you up the stairs to the guest bedroom, “You want some tea or anything?” he asked.
“No..I am okay. Thank you.”
“Alright.” he smiled, “My room's right down the hall. Just yell if you need anything.” he backed out of the room, closing the door behind him.
The rest of the night, he spent sitting on the sofa, unable to go back to sleep. He felt that he needed to stay up, stay on guard.
* * * * *
Early that morning you awoke to the smell of bacon and eggs cooking. You saw one of Tyler's shirts and sweatpants laid out on the chair next to your bed with a note, “Bathroom down the hall. Feel free to take a shower and put these on. I know we forgot to grab you some clothes last night. Thought you'd feel more comfortable in something other then your nightgown to wear. Breakfast will be ready for you.”
You smile, picking up the clothes and heading into the bathroom, turning on the hot water.
Tyler hears the water running upstairs, so he goes ahead and fixes you a plate of food and pours your coffee, setting the cream and sugar out on the table for you.
“Morning.” he smiles when you walk down the stairs, “Breakfast is ready.”
“Thank you. It smells delicious.” you smile.
“Still like cream and sugar in your coffee?” he asked.
“You remember, after all this time?”
“Of course I do. Used to be three creams and two sugars. I wasn't sure if it changed, so I just put the cream and sugar on the table.”
“It hasn't changed.” you smile.
“I am going to head into town and get some glass to fix that window for you. Want to ride along?”
“You don't need to fix it. I'll file a claim with the insurance and get someone out there.”
“It will take days if not weeks to get someone out there. It's no problem to fix it. I just need to take measurements, have them cut the glass and put it in. A few minutes I'll have it in.”
“Thank you, Tyler...for last night, for everything.”
“Anytime. That's what friends are for.” he looked at you, sitting at the kitchen table in his t shirt and sweats, sipping coffee and eating a breakfast he prepared for you. He couldn't help but to think if this might have been what every morning would have looked like if he had only returned your call five years ago. Maybe you would have had a little one or two running around the table.”
“Ever wonder what could have been?” he asked softly after a few moments.
“What do you mean?” you asked.
“What if you didn't leave for school? What if I didn't leave to go chase storms? What if I wasn't an ass and I returned your call or even called you. What if we didn't go five years without seeing or speaking to each other.”
You only shook your head, “There's no way to know what could have been, so I just don't think about it. Life goes on.”
“Yeah...yeah it does.” he starts loading the dishwasher, then drives you back home. He makes you wait in the truck while he runs a check though the house and around the property, making sure no one was hanging around and nothing else had been broken into.
“I'll be back in about an hour or so and get that window fixed.” he said before leaving.
“It's my turn for lunch today. Since you made it yesterday, I'll have us some sandwiches ready when you come back. Maybe make some of my sweet tea.”
“Ah, I used to love that sweet tea! It was always the sweetest.” he smiled, “Alright...see you for lunch then, sweetheart.”
You smiled, that was the second time he had used 'sweetheart' with you since last night.
Going into the house, you double check all the doors to make sure they were locked and called your dog Jack into the house before sitting down to try and read a book. You try to concentrate on the words in front of you, but every little sound was making you look. You felt like someone was watching, but you knew no one was there. You felt alone, and for the first time that you could remember, you were actually scared to be alone.
You toss the book down and turn up some music before beginning to make lunch. You kept glancing out the window, watching for Tyler's truck to come speeding down the drive way. Two hours seemed to drag on forever, until finally, you heard the music blasting and soon the truck appeared in a cloud of dust.
Finally, you felt some relief. You felt safe again.
As promised, it only took Tyler a few minutes to get the new window put in.
You brought the sandwiches and tea out to the front porch and set them on the table between two rocking chairs. “Bathroom is right in the door, to the right if you want to wash up.” you tell him.
“Thanks. Those sandwiches look amazing.” he lingered in the doorway for a moment, everything in him wanted to kiss you, but he forced himself to go on into the bathroom and wash up.
Again, he thought about what could have been. Him fixing things around the house for you. You having lunch ready for him and you two sitting there on the front porch, making small talk and enjoying the view.
Tyler sat down, taking a sip of the tea you made and gave you a smile, “Still the sweetest tea ever.” he paused looking out over your front yard, towards his house, “There's a few cells about an hour west of here into Texas. The team and I are going to head out soon as I am done eating. Would you care to put the horses in the barn for me tonight? It might be late when I get home.”
“Yeah, sure.” you say, dread filling you as you thought about night.
“Thanks. You gonna be okay?” he asked.
“Yeah..fine.” you force a smile, “I am sure whoever it was last night is long gone.”
“Probably. You got my number, if you need anything, call me, okay?” he asked.
“Will do.” you pick up the plates and glasses and carry them into the house. Tyler waits a moment before standing and opening the door a bit, “I am heading out now. See you in the morning, I'll send the money I owe you to your Venmo before I leave.” he called.
“No problem. Whenever you can. I trust you. Be safe out there.” you call back.
“Bye.” He says and walks to his truck, 'I love you.' He whispers under his breath, taking one more look at the house before driving away.
* * * *
You get the kitchen cleaned up and then run over to Tyler's place to bring his horses into the barn and feed the dog. The sun was just starting to set when you made your way back home and you quickly ran into the house, slamming the door and locking it.
Your dog, Jack laid in middle of the living room floor looking at you as tried to catch your breath. Why were you terrified of the coming night? Surely there was no one out there. They were gone. There was nothing to fear...that's what you kept telling yourself.
Going over to the sofa, you pick up the phone, seeing a message from Tyler,
“We're going live on the YouTube channel in a few minutes...this one looks big...maybe you wanna check it out?” was the message along with a link to the Tornado Wranglers you tube.
You sigh, settling in and opening up the channel. The first thing you see is Tyler's truck in middle of the tornado, fireworks shooting off the back of the truck, lighting up the twister.
This was worse then bull riding...you thought. You continued watching as the team danced around the truck hooting and hollering once the tornado was over. Somehow, not feeling quite so alone as long as you were connected to the live feed. It was like you had a connection to someone else, and weren't sitting here alone with who knows what outside.
A thump outside made you jump and you ran to turn on the lights. Your dog only glanced up at you and didn't seem alarmed, but you were. You thought you heard footsteps and you run though the house turning on lights at each room you came too. Then you dart back to the living room, turning on the TV and turning it up louder. Maybe, if you had the TV on, whoever or whatever outside would think you weren't alone...and would leave.
You sat on the sofa trembling in fear until sleep finally won out.
* * * * *
It was almost 1 am when Tyler was approaching his drive way. He slowed as he passed you house, noticing all the lights were on. He quickly turned into the driveway and sped up to the house.
Picking up his phone, he texted, “You okay?”
The ding of your phone startled you awake, once more. You kept drifting in and out of sleep, every little noise you heard or thought you heard make you jump.
“Yeah. Where are you?” you sent him a message, noticing the time. Why was he texting you at 1 am?
“I was heading home and saw the lights on.” he answered, “Everything okay?” Tyler decided not to tell you that he was sitting right outside your door just yet.
“Yeah, I just thought I heard a noise. Guess it was nothing.” you replied.
Tyler scanned the area around your house, then picked up the flashlight he kept next to the driver's seat.
He called you instead of sending another message.
“Tyler?” you answer on the first ring.
“Hey, I am just outside of your house now. Where did you think you heard the noise at?” he asked, on full alert.
“I...I don't know. All over I guess. I can't sleep. Every time I fall asleep, something wakes me up. Just jitters probably.”
“I am going to take a look around just to be sure. Stay in the house with the doors locked. I'll let you know if I find anything.”
“Tyler..no.” you protest. “I am sure it's nothing.”
“I'll call you back in a few. Hang tight.” he hanged up and stepped out of the truck, shining his flashlight around. He made a full circle around the house, checking the windows, bushes and ground then moved on towards the barn, checking in every corner he could. Once he was satisfied there was nothing there, he walked back to the truck and called you.
“Everything okay?” you asked, peering out the window, your voice trembling a little.
“All clear. No signs of anything out here. Probably was the wind.” he paused, “Wanna come crash at my place again?”
You thought for a moment then answered, “No...I'll be okay. I am just really tired. Thank you, Ty. I feel safer now that you checked out things.”
“No problem. Good night, Sweetheart.” he smiled, getting back in the truck. He sat there for a few moments, watching as one by one each light in the house was turned out.
He leaned his seat back and did his best to get comfortable before dozing off. He wasn't about to return home if you were afraid. If you weren't going to come home with him, then he was going to stay out here in his truck, making sure you were safe.
* * * * *
The sun was just peeking up over the horizon when your dog started fussing to go out. “Alright, fine.” you mutter, stumbling out of the bed and to the door. You were shocked to open the door and see the red Dodge Ram sitting there in the drive.
“Tyler?” you called.
He jumped awake at the sound of your voice, quickly looking around, then smiling at you.
“Morning Sweetheart.” he smiled.
“What the hell are you doing sleeping in your truck in front of my house?” you scold him, hands on your hips.
“I didn't want to leave last night. You seemed worried and if you were hearing noises out here, I wanted to stay here and makes sure everything was okay.”
Your heart was filled with love. Actually, the love you had always felt for Tyler Owens never did go away. It always lingered, and maybe that's why you never got too serious with anyone. Your heart always belonged to him. Even if you would never be anything more then friends, the thought that this man would willingly sleep in his truck outside your house... just to make sure you were okay, made that love grow ever more.
“Well come on in and I'll make us some coffee. Want some pancakes for breakfast?” you offered.
“Sounds great.” he smiled, hoping from the truck, giving the dog a pet on the head before following you in. “Let me help with something.” he offered.
“You take the plates out if you want, after you wash up.”
“Yes, ma'am.” he grinned, washing his hands in the sink, “Where's the plates?” he asked? “Right side of sink, second cabinet, first shelf.” you direct him, pouring the pancake mix in the skillet.
“Wanna go for a ride today? We can load the horses up on the trailer and take them to one of the trails around. I am sure the dogs would like to come too.”
“No storms to chase today?” you asked, standing to clean up the dishes.
Tyler puts his hand on your arm, then stands. “Nope...sit back down. You cook, I clean.” he grinned, “And no, don't look like there's any storms until maybe next week. There might be some over in Oklahoma.” he stated, taking the dishes from you and loading them in the sink.
“You don't have to wash my dishes. My house, my dishes, I clean.”
“Don't work like that, Sweetheart. Not with me. I'll get these washed up and run home to tend to the horses. Maybe we can pack a lunch and have a picnic up at the state park...if you wanted to go. I could help out with any chores around here before we left.”
“That sounds great.” you smile. It sounded like the perfect date to be honest...but it wasn't a date. You both had already established that you were friends...best of friends, but friends all the same. “I don't have much here to do. A quick shower and feed the dog. I'll get us some sandwiches and chips put together for a picnic.”
“It's a date then. I'll pick you up in two hours.” Tyler said causally, but hoping that maybe...just maybe it could have been the date that he wanted to take you on fifteen years ago...back when he first carved your name in that old oak tree. He walked to the truck with a skip in his step. He knew he had some work to do, but maybe...just maybe, he could make up for his past mistakes.
The Storm Of Life - Part 1
Warnings: mention of death (no main characters), tornado
Pairing: Tyler Owens/ F. Reader
Summary: You are a single mother, currently sleeping in your car and trapped in the path of a tornado when Tyler finds you. He will go above and beyond to help you put the broken pieces back together again.
A/N: I had this idea and so far it has been really easy to write. Please let me know what you think. I was thinking of just doing little chapters and maybe do a slow burn relationship? Let me know what you think and if you want to see more. I am still new at writing fan fiction, so I love your feedback! Thank you for reading.
Part 1
“THERE IT IS!” Boone pointed out the funnel, “Seems to be heading east.”
“I got it.” Tyler made a sharp right turn on the next road. The tornado was a big one and it was heading directly towards them.
“WOO!!!” Boone hanged out the window with the video rolling, “Are you guys seeing this!” he yelled for all of the YouTube followers.
“What the hell...” Tyler slammed on the brakes and Boone almost went flying.
“What the..” then Boone seen it.. A small car parked on the side of the road, hood up, smoke coming from under the hood and in the direct path of the oncoming tornado.
“HEY! You gotta get out of there! You okay?” Tyler yelled.
He saw you in the driver's seat and clearly you had been crying. You had your young son and daughter in the back.
In an instant Tyler was out of the truck, “Come on, get in my truck!” he yelled over the roaring winds. He ripped open the back door and grabbed your son while Boone ran to the other side of the car to get your daughter.
Tyler helped you in the the backseat of the truck and handed you the children, 'We gotta go!”
“LULU! My LULU!” your little girl cried.
“Honey we can't...” you say softly.
“What's LULU?” Tyler asked.
“Her stuffed bear.” you say
Tyler ran back to the car and grabbed the stuffed animal off the back seat.
“Here sweetie. We can't leave LULU behind.” he handed the animal back to your daughter and hit a button on the center console of his truck.
“What are you doing? The tornado is here!” you scream.
“I know...put those harnesses on and hold on. We don't have time to outrun it now. I've anchored the truck, we will be okay.” Tyler turned around in his seat to make sure everyone was getting seat belts and harnesses on before he slipped his own harness on.
The truck shook as the twister passed right though them. There was a loud bang outside the window and your son cried “Our car mommy! Our car is gone!”
“We're okay!” Tyler yelled in hopes of comforting them. “It's okay...tornado is passing...it's okay.”
As quick as it got started, the tornado was gone and blue skies began to appear.
Tyler turned around to speak to you and his heart broke, seeing you and your kids in tears, “Hey, hey....it's okay. I'll see if I can find your car. We'll take photos for the insurance. They'll help you get another one. In the meantime I'll give you a ride home.” he tried to comfort you.
“That car was our home. Now I really have nothing.” you cried.
Tyler sighed and his eyes meant Boone's. He knew he had to help you, but he wasn't sure how just yet.
“It's going to be okay.” Tyler opened his door. “You guys stay here. There's a lot of debris out there and I don't want anyone getting hurt. I'll go see how bad it is.”
“I am scared mommy.” Your daughter cried. Your son was looking out the window crying. Boone turned around and saw you trying your best to dry your tears and comfort the kids. He wasn't great with kids, he didn't really have any experience, but he had to try something. It was breaking his heart to see you all so scared.
“Hey...who want's some ice cream? There's a little shop right up the road.” he gave a soft smile.
The kids crying stopped. “ME! ME! ME!” came happy yells from the backseat. Boone grinned, satisfied that he had made the kids happy, at least for a moment.
Tyler returned, a heartbroken look on his face. He got in the truck and turns to the back to look at you, “Sorry miss...the car is totaled. It's wrapped around a tree back there. I grabbed some clothes and toys I found and I've put them in the back of my truck for you.
“ICE CREAM! ICE CREAM!” the children in the back were still chanting, despite you trying to calm them down and fighting back tears.
Tyler frowned, a bit confused on why the kids were cheering for ice cream.
“We gotta go get ice cream!” Boone grinned at Tyler, “And you're buying.”
“Who's idea was this?” Tyler asked the kids with a small smile.
“HIS!!!” Both kids pointed at Boone, who tried to put on an innocent face.
“Alright...Ice Cream it is.” he smiled, keying up the radio to let the rest of the team know, “We're making a emergency ice cream stop in town.”
“A what?” Lily asked.
“Just meet us at the ice cream parlor in town.” Tyler said before starting the truck and heading towards town.
“I'm Tyler by the way. This is my buddy Boone.” he said, “We're storm chasers. I am glad we came by when we did. What you doing out here?”
“I was heading into town to see about finding a new baby sitter. My old one just quite and and I can't afford to lose my job. But now I don't know what I am going to do.” you turned your head to look out the window so your kids couldn't see the tears run down your cheek.
“Hey hey now...it'll be okay...What's your name?” Tyler asked.
“I am Y/N. This is my son Billy and my daughter Harley.” you say.
“Hi Billy and Harley!” Tyler smiled, “How old are you guys?”
The kids were silent as they looked at Tyler and back to their mom, “Harley just turned 3 and Billy is 4.” you tell him.
“Four and a half.” Billy corrects. “I four and a half.”
“Four and a half.” Tyler nods and flashes you a grin, “Get it right Mom! He's four and a half.”
You give him a grateful smile as he pulls the truck into the local ice cream shop. Thankfully the twister had touched down outside of town and died out before reaching it.
Tyler opens the door for you and lifts both kids out. “This is a big truck! I love trucks!” Billy smiled.
“Really?” Boone said as Tyler opened the door for everyone, “You know T here shoots fireworks off the back of his truck.”
“REALLY!” Billy's eyes light up.
“Really,” Tyler said. “Hey, maybe later I'll let you hit the button that makes them go BOOM!”
“YAY!” Billy cheered.
“What about you, Harley?” Tyler looked at her, “You wanna shoot off fireworks too?”
She nodded, biting at her figure nails.
“She's really shy...until she gets to know you. Once she knows you, she'll be stuck to you like glue.” you say as your daughter wraps her little arms around your leg.
Tyler gives you both a smile just as the rest of the team arrived.
“Ah, here's my team! This is Lily, she operates our drone.”
“You got a DRONE too! Can we set fireworks off of THAT!”
Everyone laughs and Tyler shakes his head no, “Sorry little man. Can't set fireworks off the drone, but we can look on a screen and see some really cool videos. It will be almost like you're a bird flying.”
“COOL! I am a eagle!” Billy yells, pretending to fly around the ice cream shop.
“Billy, stop that and come here.” you scold, to which he comes over and stands next to you.
“This is Dexter. He's our scientist and weather watcher. He helps Dani with our merchandise sales.” Tyler points to Dani, “And that's Dani...she's scientist, sales, YouTube, photo taker, you name it, she does it.”
“Everyone, this is Y/N and her two little ones, Billy and Harley. Their car just got wrapped around a tree by the tornado so, we're helping them out.”
“Oh my God, are you guys okay?” Lily asked.
“Yes, Tyler got us into his truck just in time. Thank God he got there.” You were shaking, realizing just how close you and the kids came to losing your life.
“Hey, it's okay now. Don't worry.” Tyler gave you a small hug, “So, what is everyone having?”
“Chocolate.” Dani ordered, “Strawberry” came Dexter's order, “Rocky road” Lily chimed in.
“Banana Split” Boone said, “And T said he's paying for it!” he informed the team.
You and the kids are looking at the many different ice cream flavors when Tyler walks up behind you, “Know what you guys want?” he asks softly.
“Bent Socket Rip.” Harley smiles.
Tyler frowns for a moment, then catches on, “Mint Chocolate Chip, right?”
Harley nods with a smile.
“Mint chocolate chip for me too!” Billy adds.
“And what about for mom here?” he asks.
“Chocolate will be fine. “ you smile.
“Coming right up.”
Everyone gets their orders placed and takes a seat around one of the tables.
“So you're storm chasers...you do this for a living?” you ask.
“Yes..and because it's fun.” Tyler smiles. “We do this to collect data for varies weather teams and to try to approve the warning time for these storms. We go into towns and help out after a tornado. I enjoy my work, even if it's dangerous. I respect the storm, but I try to have fun with it too, that way other people will want to learn more about thunderstorms and tornadoes and maybe learn how to be safe in them.
“What do you do?” he asks.
“I am a waitress at the diner here in town. Or I should say used to be. If I don't find a sitter by tomorrow then I am fired. And now I don't even have a car...so. I don't know. If it's not one thing it's something else.” you shake your head and try to hold back the tears that want to fall.
“We'll figure something out.” Tyler promised. “I am not just going to leave you stranded.” he bite his bottom lip trying to think.
“Hey guys, once you all are done with your ice cream, why don't you take the kids out and show them all the cool stuff we've got.” Tyler told the team.
“Can I see the fireworks!” Billy asked.
Tyler laughed, “Not yet, buddy. No shooting off fireworks in the parking lot. But maybe we'll go off into a field later and fire some off.”
“YAY! BOOM BOOM!” Billy's eyes light up with excitement.
“Thank you.” You give a small smile to this guy who just happened to stop and pluck you and the kids out of a tornado's path, and now he was going out of his way to make the kids happy and try to keep their mind off of the serious of the situation.
Once the kids were done with their ice cream the team lead them out to explore all three of their vehicles and the equipment that made storm chasing possible.
“Do you have any place to go?” Tyler asked once the kids were outside.
“No...I don't even know anyone.” you turn your head away as tears rolled down your cheeks.
“Hey, it's okay.” Tyler's voice was kind and gentle, “you know me and the team..that's something.” he placed a hand on your shoulder to comfort. “How about the kid's father? Is he in the picture?”
“No. He was killed three years ago in a tornado. Him and my parents. He went to get my parents from their house because they didn't have a storm cellar and we did. They were killed on the way back to our farm. The tornado blew the truck off the road.” you broke down in tears remembering that awful day. “Harley had just be born...”
“I am sorry.” Tyler pulled you into a hug. “No family or anything around?”
You shook your head, “My parents were my only family. His family had passed away before we met.”
Tyler took a deep breath, “Okay, let me make a phone call. I think I might have an idea.”
He stood and walked to the back of the parlor.
“Hey, mom?” he said when she picked up the phone.
“Listen, I have a lady here with two little children. Their car just got destroyed in a tornado. They were living in the car. She has no family and no where to go. That's about all I know right now, but she's gonna need a place to stay and maybe someone to watch the kids. At least for a little while. She's working at a diner here in town.”
“Okay, great. Mom, thank you. I love you too. Bye Bye.”
Tyler was smiling when he returned to the table, “Okay, my mom and I have a ranch about half an hour from here. We have two spare bedrooms and you are welcomed to stay there as long as you need. She even volunteered to watch the kids when you go to work. It's just her and the animals when I am not around, so I am sure she would enjoy some company.”
You smile and hug Tyler, “Thank you, thank you so much.”
“Not a problem.” he smiled. “Wanna go shoot off fireworks on our way?”
You smile, drying your tears, “Actually, that does sound pretty awesome.”
“Hot dog, let's go do it then!” he stood and walked with you to the door, “Who's ready for fireworks!” He yelled as he pushed open the door.
The whole team screamed like kids, making you break out in laughter, for the first time in years. You didn't know what laid ahead, but at least now, you had hope that maybe you could get back on your feet again.

Chapter 9 – FINAL CHAPTER
Lee was staring angrily at the computer screen, then he spotted a new post.
“Look who's in Galveston! Are we expecting bad weather?” The post was followed by a video of you with Tyler in the truck.
“Maybe you can run, but you can't hide.” he seethed, grabbing his truck keys.
* * * *
It's been a week since you and the team arrived at the beach house. Everything was quiet, almost normal. Normal except that none of you were chasing storms. You weren't doing your job and everyone was itching to get back to work.
“There's going to be a big outbreak this weekend back in Oklahoma.” Boone stated.
You take Tyler's hand in yours, “If you are feeling up to it, I say let's go.” you smile.
He took a deep breathe. They couldn't run forever and they couldn't hide forever. They WOULDN'T. He wasn't going to let this asshole run your life. They were going to live their life and if Lee dared show his face again, then Tyler would beat his ass. Besides, it would be the whole team together. Six to one put the odds in your favor. Finally he nodded, “I say let's go.”
“Alright!” Lily cheered. Everyone had enjoyed their week at the beach. It was a much needed little trip to rest and recharge after everything that had happened, but now, they all were more then ready to get back to what they loved...storm chasing.
Tyler sucked in a breath and stood up, taking your hand in his, “Wanna go for a midnight walk on the beach?” he smiled. Maybe it wasn't midnight, but it was close enough. It was cloudy and dark, a cool breeze was blowing in off the ocean. From the house you could hear the crashing of the waves on the shore and the rustle of the palm trees. A storm was blowing in from the sea.
“I'd love to.” You smiled, standing next time him. He wrapped his arm around you, pulling you into a hug, “Alright guys, we'll be back soon. We'll head out tomorrow.”
With that, he lead you out the door and across the beach. Tyler was about out of breath by the time you made it to the water's edge. His leg still felt like it was on fire every time he walked more then a few steps and his ribs still hurt with every breath he took.
“You sure you okay to go back chasing?” you asked, concerned.
“Yeah, maybe we won't be driving into any tornadoes or anything like that for a few more weeks, but I am good to sit there and drive. We can chase, relay the information to the weather services, get videos and photos and help where we can. We don't need to be wild and crazy just yet.”
“I've really enjoyed our week here.” you sigh, holding his hand tightly and turning as the cool ocean breeze blew though your hair. “I really have missed the beach.. This was the perfect week to recharge and figure out where I want to go next with my life.”
Tyler was silent for a moment before asking, “And where do you want to go next?”
“I want to be with the team. I want to be with you. I want to pursue a career in storm chasing. I not only want to chase after storms, I want to chase after us. I think we have something special here. I can't say I have ever loved anyone like I love you...and I know it's quick. It's been less then two weeks...but I can't imagine a life without you in it.”
Tyler smiled, stopping and turning towards you, “You don't know how happy that makes me, Y/N.” he breathed against your lips, tenderly kissing them. “I love you. I have never been so sure of anything in my life. Sure, I've dated a lot, but I have never felt this kind of connection. It's like we were always meant to be together. Like...” he paused, “I don't know, like we knew each other in another lifetime and are soul mates. I know it might sound stupid or whatever, I just feel like I have always known you.”
The wind picked up and seemed to change directions causing both of you to look up. Thunder rumbled in the distance and lighting streaked across the sky. Tyler looked at you concerned, feeling the pressure drop. You felt it too. “Were they calling for anything bad tonight?” you asked.
“No..just some storms that may roll in from the sea. There were no super cells or anything.” Tyler said slowly, “but this don't feel right. Let's head back to the house.”
He squeezed your hand tighter, turning to hurry back to the house, his breathing becoming raspy and heavy as his ribs protested to the quickened movement.
“Here, take the keys to my truck. If a tornado comes, my truck will be the safest place. You and the team get in the truck. I'll be there in a minute.” he gasped, “I can't run,” he gasped.
“I am NOT leaving you!” you stated.
You and Tyler were too focused on the approaching storm to notice someone in the darkness behind you on the beach. They were quickly approaching and you turned at the last minute as a rough hand grabbed your arm.
“Well ain't this just sweet..” the man snarled.
Tyler didn't think twice, he spun, pulling you from the man's grasp and placing himself in front of you.
He heard you gasp, “Lee...what the hell...”
Rage flashed across Tyler's face as he narrowed his eyes at Lee. “Y/N...run” he yelled then charged for Lee, “son of a b...” he yelled as he tackled Lee to the ground, his fist connecting to Lee's right cheek. Tyler didn't stop there. He continued punching Lee with both fist. “How dare you lay hands on a woman...you chicken shit coward!” he yelled.
“Ty!” You yell, fear filling your voice. “Ty, let's go...he's not worth it.”
“Get....help.” Tyler yelled at you. He was already gasping for air, pain raged though his chest. He didn't know how long he could continue the assault on Lee, but he was going to keep up as long as he could. He needed to know that you were safe. “Get...to the...house.” he gasped.
Suddenly, Lee grabbed Tyler by the neck and threw him to the ground. Lee kept pressure on Tyler's neck, choking him.
Tyler struggled to breath, fighting to push Lee off of him. “Once I kill you...I am gonna get that bitch wife of mine and fuck her real good...then I'll beat her ass and then choke the life out of her...just like I am doing to ...”
Tyler brought his knee up and kicked Lee in the stomach, breaking the hold on his neck. “I'll kill you before I let you hurt her again.” Tyler gasped, grabbing Lee's throat. His lungs burned for air, pain raked though his body, but he wasn't going to give in. He wasn't going to let Lee go until he knew you'd be safe.
Lee grabbed a handful of sand and threw it in Tyler's face, breaking his concentration just enough. Lee grabbed Tyler around the neck again, slamming him to the ground.
Tyler yelled out in pain as Lee slammed his weight into his chest. Tyler was left gasping for air. Lee kept a strong hold on his neck and Tyler felt the life slipping from him. He gasped, but couldn't get air.
“TY!” You screamed as loud as you could, not sure if the others could even hear you from the house. You took off running and slammed as hard as you could into Lee, knocking him off of Tyler.
The sound of your voice made Tyler focus again, fight against the unconscious that threaten to overtake him. Y/N...no. You aren't suppose to be here. You should have went to the house. He struggled to focus his blurry vision. He saw you just a few feet away from him. You were on Lee's back, your figures digging into his eyes.
Vaguely, Tyler heard tornado sirens blaring. “Y/N.” he rasped out, “Go..” he struggled to get to his feet.
Lee threw an elbow into your side, knocking you off of him, and he spun sending a kick into your stomach. “Get off of her!” Tyler yelled, throwing his body weight into Lee and struggling to hold Lee down, praying to whatever God there may be that you would take that chance to run to the house. He knew couldn't hang on much longer. His lungs were burning for air as he struggled to get a breath, “I love you, Y/N.” he rasped. If this was it, then he wanted those to be his final words to you.
“Ty! No!” you screamed, seeing his body go limp on top of Lee's. You struggled to your feet and were about to go after Lee again when someone grabbed you from behind and you screamed.
“It's okay. We're here.” Dani said, holding you tightly. From out of the darkness Boone ran over to where Lee had shoved Tyler off of him and was starting to stand. Boone threw him to the ground and threw punches to his face, not letting up until Lee wasn't moving anymore.
“We've got to go! Tornado!” Boone yelled, grabbing Tyler and slinging him over his shoulder.
The wind was roaring and sand swirled around you stinging your eyes. Dani and Lily were on either side of you helping you fight against the wind towards the house. Boone and Dexter were close behind struggling to carry Tyler into the house. You glanced behind you, half expecting to see Lee charging at you again...but what you saw instead was a body being pulled from the beach into the tornado. Strangely, you felt relief, if not a bit of happiness.
Dani pushed the door open and everyone practically fell into the door. Boone slammed the door closed and ushered everyone into the master bath that you and Tyler had been using. It was the only room on the lower level of the house without windows.
Lily and Dani leaned against the bathroom door as Boone carefully laid Tyler's limp body down. The tornado roared outside and you heard glass shattering throughout the house. The walls shook under the power of the winds.
You threw yourself over Tyler's body, doing your best to protect him from any debris that might fall, while at the same time checking for pulse and breathing.
“Hang on, baby.” you whispered, feeling his chest rise slightly. He took a rattling raspy breath. His chest seemed to be barley moving, but he was breathing and there was a faint heartbeat. You laid over his body, covering his head with your arms, “I love you.” you whispered into his ear.
Boone was already on the phone to 911 telling them the address and nature of emergency.
“It's over.” Lily breathed a sigh of relief.
You laid next to Tyler, head resting lightly on his chest, listening to his uneven raspy breathes, feeling the slight rise and fall of his chest with each breath. You drowned out all other sounds, all other thoughts except his breathing. Breathing meant life. Life meant hope.
“I am here, it's okay. Hang on Ty.” you sobbed.
You heard a slight gasp from Tyler and his chest stopped moving. “TY! Guys, he stopped breathing!” you cried.
Boone was instantly at Tyler's side. Sirens could be heard approaching from the distance.
“one...two...” Boone started the compressions. You pinched Tyler's nose closed and tilted his head slightly back when Boone reached 30. You breathed two breaths into Tyler's mouth and Boone started pumping his chest again. You checked, still not finding a pulse or breathing, and repeated the steps.
Lily and Dani left to go flag down the ambulance and lead them in the right direction. Tears streamed down your face as you breathed air into his lungs again.
Suddenly there was a gasp as Tyler took a breath. You waited for what seemed like too long, but then there it was. A second ragged breathe.
“What happened?” A medic yelled rushing into the room.
You told them of Tyler's previous broken ribs, and the fight on the beach and the stitches in his leg...you broke down in sobs. So much in such little time. You couldn't help to think maybe it would have been better if you never came to Oklahoma to start with. At least, if you hadn't came, then Tyler wouldn't have suffered so much. His life wouldn't be hanging in the balance for a second time in as many weeks.
You watched as they placed an Ambu bag over his face and started pumping air into his lungs as they loaded him on a stretcher. “I am staying with him.” you told the medics and they motioned for you to follow them as they quickly loaded the stretcher into the waiting ambulance.
“We'll meet you there!” Lily called and the team stood with tears in their eyes as the ambulance disappeared into the night.
It was only minutes until the ambulance arrived at the hospital. Tyler was whisked away behind a pair of swinging doors while a nurse lead you to the waiting room, and that's where you were when you saw Dani and Dexter rush though the doors. You stand to give them a hug, “Where's Boone and Lily?” you asked concerned.
“They'll be here soon. They stayed behind to talk to the police. The police are searching the area.” Dani said, “We told them it was Lee. I recognized him from the hospital attack last week. They haven't found him yet.”
“I think he might have gotten sucked into the tornado.” you told her. “When we were going to the house, I looked behind us and saw a body getting sucked up. I couldn't see any details, but as far I know it was only Lee and us on the beach.”
Dani and Dexter sat next to you, each holding your hand, “If that's what happened to him, it couldn't have happened to a better person. They'll find him.”
Boone and Lily entered a little while later, quickly making their way to you.
“Any word yet?” Boone asked.
You shook your head, “No. What did the police have to say? Did they find him?” you asked. A little voice in the back of your mind wondering if Lee somehow survived and was still out there.
“No. They didn't find him yet. With him being on the beach during the tornado and not likely that he got to any indoor place, the police think he was killed in the tornado. They just didn't find the body yet.”
“They might never find him.” Lily said, “You know sometimes things are dropped miles away from a twister. He might have gotten thrown into the ocean a few miles out.”
“Good food for the sharks.” Boone shrugged.
“Who's here for Tyler Owens?” The doctor called. You all stood up. “Two of you can come back here with me.” he stated.
Boone took your hand and you both stepped forward and followed the Doctor behind the swinging doors.
“He's going to be okay.” The doctor started off, “His left lung collapsed due to the broken ribs. I understand he had broken ribs last week? He should have been resting and not getting into fights.” the doctor was stern, “We were able to repair the damage. He hasn't woken up yet, but we expect he will soon. We have him on oxygen for now until his oxygen levels return to normal. His lungs are still struggling to work. It's been a lot of trauma on his body. I'll allow two at a time to sit with him. Once he wakes up and his vitals are steady we will release him, but he must take it easy for six weeks. No heavy lifting, no strenuous activity, nothing of the sorts.”
“Yes doctor. Thank you.” you nodded and Boone pulled you into a hug. “Go sit with him. I'll give the news to the others and we'll take turns coming in checking on you two.”
“Thank you.” you hugged Boone as tightly as you could and followed the doctor to Tyler's room.
Tyler laid motionless in the bed. An IV, breathing tubes, and various other wires were attached to him. Monitors sent out a steady beep. The sound of the oxygen machine hummed. You couldn't hold the tears. Sitting next to the bed, you took his hand in yours. His hand felt cool to the touch...not the warm strong hand that was like a rock when need be, but touched you with such a tenderness, as if touching a delicate flower.
“I am here,” you whisper, “Everyone is okay.” you squeeze his hand, “I love you.”
Boone came in for a few minutes, followed by Lily, Dani and Dexter. Each stayed for a few moments and promised they would be out in the waiting room before leaving you to have some privacy.
“I am sorry for everything.” you said, not even knowing if Tyler could hear you. “You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, but I almost wished I never found you.” tears started to fall as you kissed his hand lightly, “If I never joined the team, then you would never have been stuck protecting me during that tornado. You would have never gotten hurt. Lee would have never found you. You wouldn't be here now, fighting for your life.” you bit your lip.
“Darling,” Tyler's voice was all but a whisper, his figures moved slightly against your hand. “This is where...I need you. With...me.” his voice was weak and he fought to open his eyes, looking at you. “I love you Y/N.” he took a few raspy breaths, his chest rising and falling heavily. “I wouldn't change a thing...other then meeting you sooner and getting you away from that asshole sooner.”
“Ty.” You lean over, kissing his lips softly. “How you feeling.”
“Like I've been ran over by a truck.” he gave you a smile, “Are you okay?” he asked, his eyes full of concern.
“I am fine.” you promised him, “Thanks to you, and Boone, and Dani and everyone else. You all were there for me.” you whispered.
“Why didn't you run? I told you to run.” Tyler gasped, his lungs straining for the air he needed the more he talked. He started coughing, his chest heaving as he gasped for air. The machines started beeping and in a moment the doctor rushed into the room.
“Mr. Owens, calm down. Calm down...your lungs are still weak. Calm, slow breaths.” he encouraged. Tyler nodded taking deep calming breaths until his breathing evened out a little bit. The doctor increased the oxygen level. “Alright Mr. Owens...I am glad to see you are awake, but you've got to rest. Try not to talk too much or get upset, okay?” he said. “We can have you out of here in a few hours if your vitals become steady.”
Tyler nodded his agreement and took your hand once more when the doctor left the room. “So, why didn't you run?” he asked.
“Shh...you need to stop talking so much. You heard the doctor.” you squeezed his hand. “I didn't run because I wasn't about to leave you. I don't care what we face, we face it together. If it's Lee, a tornado or anything else. I will never leave you and I know you would never leave me. We're in it together.”
Tyler gave you a weak smile, “What happened with...him.” he studied you with worry in his eyes.
“I am not sure. I think he got sucked up by the tornado. When he was choking you, I attacked him. He gained the upper hand.” Tyler got a pained expression on his face at the sound that Lee had gotten the upper hand on you, “Boone was there. He tackled Lee and they fought. We ran when the tornado was closing in. Boone carried you. The whole team was there. I didn't see Lee get up, but as we approached the house, I saw someone get sucked into the tornado. Lee was the only one I know of left on the beach. The police have been looking, but he hasn't been found.”
Tyler nodded, “How did he find us?”
“We don't know...and it doesn't matter.” you say, leaning over to kiss him softly. “He's gone now. We are free to move on with our lives. I am just so sorry that you have went though so much pain because of me. I am not worth it.”
“Shh..” Tyler reached up and touched your face gently. “You are more then worth it. I love you with all my heart. You're worth it.” he whispered, his eyes growing heavy. “Now that I know you're safe...I am going to rest a bit.” he muttered, drifting back to sleep.
The door opened slowly and Boone quietly walked in, “We got a few hotel rooms for tonight right down the road.” he said, “Dani and Dexter are at the house packing everything up. Some windows got blown out and the roof is damaged so it's not safe to stay there.”
You nodded, “Thank you, Boone.”
“No problem. Lily and I will be in the waiting room. Once Tyler is free we'll take you guys to the hotel and I guess discuss what we're doing come tomorrow.”
Tyler opened his eyes, hearing Boone talking. “Hey man..thank you.” he said. “Thank you for being there.”
“No problem man. You just rest and get better. We've got ya.” Boone came over and gently patted Ty's shoulder and gave you a hug.
“Why don't you go to the room and get some sleep. Can't be good for you sitting in the chair.” Tyler said, squeezing your hand.
“No, I am not going anywhere without you. It shouldn't be too much longer before they let you out.”
Tyler sighed, knowing he was defeated. He didn't have the energy to argue and he know if the tables were turned, there would be nothing on this earth that would get him to leave your bedside.
* * * * *
The next morning you awoke in the hotel room, Tyler was sleeping, propped up on several pillows next to you. He had both his arms protectively wrapped around you. Your head was resting on his shoulder and he had his head leaning against yours. You shifted in the bed to move and get up for a cup of coffee. Even though you moved slowly and carefully, Tyler still awoke at the first sign of movement. “Morning beautiful.” he smiled.
“Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. Want some coffee?” you asked.
“Yeah. That sounds good, and you didn't wake me. I was already awake.” he grinned, reaching over to the bedside table and picking up the IPAD, looking to see what the weather was going to be.
“So what's the plan for today?” you asked.
He put the IPAD down and gazed at you as you fixed the coffee, “I'd like to take you back to my hometown.”
You turned and looked at him with surprise.
“I have a little farm in Arkansas, right across the state line. Looks like there's going to be a few big cells out that way. We can make my house base for a few days and I can show you around while we chase.”
“Tyler...I would love to see your hometown, but the doctor was very strict. You need to take it easy. You can't get hurt again. I can go with the team and chase while you take it easy at home.”
“No...I don't want the team, especially you, out there without me.” Tyler said. “I'll take it easy. We don't need to get close. We can just track the storms, document them, and report our findings to the weather service. Nothing crazy or dangerous. I'll stay in the truck. I'll even let you drive.” he grinned.
“Alright, but at the first sign the storm is getting too close, we are out of there.” you kiss him softly and hand him coffee.
“Deal...he smiled, pulling you down for a tender kiss. “This is the first day of the rest of our lives together.” he whispered, “And I swear to you I am going to give all I've got to give to make all your dreams come true.”

Guardian In The Night - Part 1
Parings: Tyler/ F. Reader (former rodeo star/ now a veterinarian)
Warnings: Injury, Angst, a few swear words, talk of death, fighting
Summary: You have known Tyler Owens for 15 years, meeting him while you both were on the rodeo circuit. Five years ago a tragic accident tore you apart. You never expected to see him back in your again, but here he is. Is there still a fire burning between you two? Will Tyler be your guardian when a prowler lurks outside your home?
A/N: I had planned for this to be a short one shot...but here we are already 20 some pages in, so it will be a two part story.
** SIX MONTHS AGO **
You had just returned home from a local farm, where you helped deliver a new baby colt. The miracle of life always amazed you, rather it be animal or human. As the local veterinarian, you most definitely saw more animal births then people ones, and that suited you just fine. You always kinda preferred animals over people.
Pulling into the drive, you saw a red Dodge Ram sitting in the drive and sighed. At first, you thought it was someone bringing their pet to you. Then, you recognized the truck, equipped with drills and rocket launchers. You had seen a few of his YouTube videos...but you never expected to see him again.
“What the hell you doing here?” you asked, jumping from the truck.
You first met Tyler Owens about fifteen years ago. Your father had been a retired bull rider and you had grown up on the rodeo circuit and was a pretty well known barrel racer. Everyone knew and loved your father, so they naturally knew and loved you as well. Tyler's uncle had brought the farm across the street from yours, and Tyler was often over at your house getting bull riding tips from your father.
“Well, hello to you too.” he quipped, “My uncle died, I figured you would know that.” he glared.
“Oh do I ever! I am the one taking care of his animals. I am just surprised that you show up. It's been what, five years now, Tyler?”
You and Tyler became best of friends rather quickly when you first met. Then, that night happened. You didn't leave his side until he pushed you away. Even after that, you called every day...until one day, you realized he was just never going to return your calls. You moved on with your life and out of state to go to collage. Tyler had moved as well and neither of you kept touch. You went five years without seeing or talking to each other. That was until now...
“I am here for the funeral...” he paused, “And I inherited the farm. I guess that makes us neighbors again.”
“You mean you actually are staying this time? Or are you going to run away like last time.”
“You ran away first.” he glared, then sighed, “Listen, I am not here to argue. I plan on staying. I just have to travel for work a lot...”
“Yeah yeah. I know. The YouTube famous tornado wrangler.” you glared, “And for the record, I only left after months of trying to talk to you and being shut out each and every damn time. Why would I stick around? You told me to get the hell out, so I did.” your eyes narrowed in anger, “So what do you want from me now?”
“I know you're the vet, and I know you have been caring for my uncle's animals.” Tyler said, “He told me how big of a help you were to him. I just wanted to know how much I owe you for taking care of the animals...and I want to keep you on as the vet and pay you to look after things when I travel.”
“When did you start talking to your uncle...or anyone else for that matter?” you glared, tears threatening to fall. “It's been FIVE YEARS Tyler! Do you know how many times he tried to call you? How many times I tried to call you?”
He shook his head, looking at the ground as he scuffed his boots across the dirt, “No...no I don't. I was an asshole and I apologize. I've been talking to him for about a month. I was planning on coming back after this season and help him around the farm...the doctors called me the other day and told me about his heart attack. I got back as quickly as I could.”
“He needed you.” you whispered. “He talked about you all the time. He became a father to me after my father died. I was left alone with no one. I tried calling you, but you never called back. Your uncle was the only one there for me.”
Tyler bite his lip, “Y/N...I am sorry.” Tears brimmed around his eyes, “I have no excuse for how I acted. I am trying to make it right. I am trying to get back on track. I am not asking for forgiveness or understanding. I just want to know if you are willing to stay on as vet and care taker for the animals. Just bill me or whatever. You don't even have to see me again if you don't want.”
“Of course I will take care of the animals. I have been taking care of them for the past two years, ever since I graduated from veterinarian school.”
Tyler took out his phone, “Give me your number and I'll tell you the days I'll be out of town. Call if you need anything and I'll pay you each time before I leave.”
“You won't owe me until you return. I normally just send a bill out to my clients once the work is done.”
“In my line of work..I like to pay ahead of time.” he stated.
You two exchanged numbers and he tipped his hat at you, “Good to see you, Y/N.” and with that, he was gone.
* * * Present Day * * *
You were sitting on your porch when you heard the music. You could hear country music blasting from the loud speakers before you even saw the truck. Tyler Owens was back in town, and he was making sure the whole town knew it too. It had been six months since he came back into your life. While at first, your meetings were very short and only about business, gradually, you began have friendly conversations, a few times Tyler called you from the road just to see how you were doing.
“Hey neighbor!” Tyler called, bringing you out of your thoughts. “We're back in town for a few days at least.”
“Really? I would have never known.” you flashed him a grin. “Horses are all good, but I think Tex misses you. He was laying on the porch this morning, staring down the drive way.”
Tyler grinned, “Aw, he's just lazy, that's all. He is always laying on the porch staring down the driveway. Hey, what you got going on tonight?” he asked.
“Nothing that I know of. Same old same old. I got some bills I need to mail out, but other then that, nothing.”
“The team and I are heading down to Big Mo's Bar tonight. Wanna meet us there for some drinks, maybe a game of pool?” he asked.
You thought for a moment before finally saying, “Yeah, sure.”
“Alright, see you then.” he tipped his hat and sped back down the driveway in a cloud of dust.
You finish your coffee and head into the house to do the paperwork you needed to do. If people didn't pay you what was owed, you couldn't keep the place running.
As you got started on your work, you left you mind drift back to about five years ago.
Tyler was the hottest thing on the rodeo circuit. You two had been the best of friends for the past ten years. He was about eight years into his career and on his way to possibly moving up into the PBR. You were on the top of your game in barrel racing.
It was a hot summer night near Little Rock. You on your horse Cisco, waiting to be called out for your barrel run when Tyler walked up to you you. “Hey sweetheart. Wanna go grab a few beers tonight?” he asked, his green eyes staring up at you from under his cowboy hat.
“Is this your way of asking a girl out?” you turned and glared at him.
You have had a crush on Tyler since about the first time you met. He would flirt with you and you'd flirt back, but nothing ever got serious between you.
He shrugged and flashed you that lopsided grin of his, “Yeah. I guess. You wanna go out with me tonight?”
“And next up is Y/N Y/LN...”
“We'll talk later.” You smiled down at him and gave a swift kick to your horse and sped out into the arena.
Your dog, Jack barking out on the front porch brought you out of your thoughts. “Alright boy, what is it?” you mutter, going to the front door.
Tyler was riding up your drive on his horse Thunder, and was leading the other horse, Tequila. 'Now what.” you mutter to yourself.
“What's wrong?” you ask.
“Thunder and Tequila want to go for a ride.” he grinned. “I can only ride one at a time. Want to help a cowboy out?”
You sigh, “Didn't I just tell you that I had paper work to catch up on? If I don't send my clients bills, they don't pay me. They don't pay me, I can't keep this business running.”
“Just a quick ride? For the horses!” he smiled.
“Alright. One quick ride. For the horses.” you agree. It had been just over a year since your horse Cisco died. You couldn't bring yourself to get another horse, not yet. You had missed riding, and quick frankly, it always freed your mind. Maybe, a ride was just what you needed right now.
You take the reins and quickly mount Tequila. Your farm was only about ten acres, but Tyler's was a bit over forty.
“Where to, cowboy?” you asked.
“You remember where that big oak tree is, by the lake on the back side of my property?” he asked.
“Yeah..”
“Race you there!” he yelled, kicking his horse into a gallop.
“Come on Tequila. Let's get 'em.” you kicked the horse up, quickly moving into a full run.
Tyler grinned as you passed him and he kicked up his horse a little faster, coming up along side you.
You held onto the horses mane and eased up on the reins, giving her free rein to run. You leaned forward, letting the wind blow though your hair. You felt wild and free and left out a long howl.
Tyler kept pace next to you, falling back just a few steps as the horses slowed and you reached the tree.
“See, just what you needed, right?” he was laughing. Chasing tornadoes was the thrill of a life time, but second best would be on a horse, riding free though the open fields, not a care in the world.
“That was awesome.” you smiled.
“Think that was great...you should try chasing tornadoes with me!” he smiled.
“Yeah, I don't think so.” you dismounted and left the horse graze freely near the lake and Tyler did the same with his.
“Remember this place?” he asked, biting his lip and glancing over at you.
“I do.” you nodded. “we probably had known each other three years or so at the time. We rode out here and you carved our names in this tree.” you laughed, “I told you that you couldn't carve our names in a tree if we weren't even dating.”
“But I did it anyway.” he grinned looking at the tree, “And they're still there.”
You sighed, “yeah, but you never did ask me out, so it don't count.” you playfully punched his arm.
“Hey, to be fair, I tried.” he pointed out.
“Yeah? When?” you glared. “Because I would have remembered that. I was waiting for you to ask me.”
“I asked you. Remember, I asked if you wanted to grab a few beers that night...the night of the..accident.” he trailed off.
Of course you remembered, you just didn't think he was really asking you on a date. It sounded like a friend asking a friend to grab a beer after the rodeo.
“I remember that night.” you said softly. Silence filled the air between you as you both recalled your last night together.
Right after Tyler had asked you to grab a few beers after the rodeo you had said “We'll talk later,” and took off to do your run. You were halfway though the run when a bull tried to jump a gate. The gate fell over and suddenly, there was a bull charging at your horse. You seen the movement out of the corner of your eye and took off in a full run to get out of the area. Your horse spooked, rearing up and throwing you. Tyler seen you on the ground and that bull charging straight for you. Without second thought he had ran and threw himself between you and bull. You vaguely remember someone grabbing your arms and pulling you out of the area as the bull turned on Tyler, kicking him in the head. You were screaming his name as the bull continued it's attack on Tyler, stomping and headbutting him. The rodeo clowns scurrying to get out there and distract the bull. Cowboys racing out on their horses with ropes. You would never forget the look of Tyler's limp body laying in middle of that area, the ambulance rushing in. Tyler never rode bulls again after that. You never barrel raced again either.
“I went to see you in the hospital, you know.” you told him. “Every single day for the two months you were in a coma, I was there.”
“Yeah, I know. They told me.” Tyler said softly. “Then you left not long after that.”
“Because when you finally woke up, what did you tell me?” You fought to keep the tears from falling.
He sighed, “I told you to get the hell out, that I didn't want to see you anymore.” his lower lip quivered and he turned away, before you could see the tear that fell.
“That's exactly what I did. I couldn't go back out on the circuit again. I was haunted by nightmares of that bull getting lose, attacking you. So I went to Texas to study veterinarian medicine. I tried to call you every day. I left a number of messages for you. One day, my daddy told me that you had moved out to Oklahoma. I didn't see or hear from you again until a few months ago, when you moved back here.”
“They told me I could never ride bulls again.” he said softly. “I needed a thrill, so I went to Oklahoma for a bit to get a degree in meteorology and chase storms. Met my team, became tornado wranglers..moved back home after my uncle passed...and here we are.”
“I missed you.” you whisper. “I really could have used a friend after my dad died.”
“I didn't know about your dad, until last month when I started talking to my uncle again. He told me.” Tyler said slowly. “I would have came back for you, if I had known.”
“Yeah. Your uncle said he tried calling you. I had tried calling you too, for at least the first two years, until you changed your number.”
“I'll always regret that. It was a bad time in my life. My purpose had always been riding bulls and when I couldn't, I was lost. I was trying to make a name for myself. Trying to become somebody...” he trailed off. He wanted to say 'trying to become somebody you could be proud of' but those days were long gone. There was no need to bring up old memories. “I guess we just weren't meant to be.” he sighed.
“Life goes on.” you brush it off, hiding the hurt in your eyes, “at least we are still friends now.”
“Yeah. We've got that.” he gave you a hug.
“We better get back. I got to get this paper work done if you still want me to meet you guys at the bar tonight.”
You both collect the horses and mount up, riding back slowly this time. “Anything I can do to help?”
Laughing you shook your head, “I wouldn't trust you with math problems, Tyler Owens.”
“How about I make us some burgers for lunch. I'll bring them over to you so you can concentrate on your work.”
“Thanks. That would be great.” you flash a smile.
* * * * *
Later that night, you walked into the bar, and quickly spotted Tyler with his team.
“Hey, Y/N! Over here!” he waved at you.
You join the team at the pool table. “Y/N, meet my team. This is Dani, Lily, Boone, and Dexter.” he introduced them.
“Nice to meet you guys.” you nod.
“Wanna play a round?” he asked.
“No, not right now. I think I am just gonna grab a drink and watch you guys. Maybe do some line dancing.”
“Alright..maybe next round?” he asked.
“Maybe.” you agree, going to the bar to order your drink. When you return, you stand next to Tyler as it was his turn to shoot. He pocketed two balls at once.
“Woo! My good luck charm!” he grinned, giving you a hug. “What about next round we make teams. You're on my team.” he smiled.
“Or it can be boys vs girls.” you raise an eyebrow at him.
You watch for a few more shots, then finish your beer and head out to the dance floor to join a group of line dancers. Tyler watched you leave, then turned back to the game.
“So that's Y/N. The girl you told us about?” Boone asked.
“Yeah. Don't say anything in front of her, please.” Tyler said.
“So, this is the girl that you were too shy to actually ask out, even though she had been your best friend for almost ten years, right?” Lily said.
“Yeah. And the girl that I threw myself in front of a bull for. She's the reason that I left the rodeo circuit, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I couldn't just stand there when she was in the path of that bull. I figured it would kill me, but I didn't care. I'd rather it be me then her.”
“Why didn't you ever call her or anything man?” Boone asked, “I mean..she is hot.”
Tyler shot his friend a look, “I didn't know what I was going to do with my life. After I got out of the hospital I had to go though therapy. Then I didn't have a future in the rodeo anymore, but I needed a thrill. I couldn't just do a regular job. I just didn't know what to say to her, and I certainly couldn't ask her out when I didn't know what kind of future I had. After I got started as a storm chaser, years had passed and I figured she had moved on. I didn't need to come back into her life and disrupt whatever she built for herself.”
“You should have called her man.” Dani shook her head. “Why haven't you asked her out since coming back? She is still single, isn't she?”
“Those days are gone, okay? I am just thankful that we are still friends.”
“Well, if you aren't going to ask her out, I am.” Boone teased. “Come on man, you don't think she's hot?”
“Boone, don't talk about her like that. She's beautiful, not just hot.” Tyler said, his gaze landing back on you as the song finished and you left the dance floor.
“So she's a beautiful friend that you just aren't into...okay. I got it.” Boone nodded.
“Shut up.” Tyler hissed, not wanting you to over hear their conversation.
“So, who's winning?” You ask.
“I am. You were my good luck charm, so just stay here. Maybe I can win in another shot or two.” Tyler grinned, taking his turn. He failed to score.
“Guess your luck ran out.” you grinned at him as a guy approached you.
“Excuse me, Miss. Would you care to dance with me?” he tipped his at you.
You thought for a moment, not normally being one to dance with strangers at a bar. He was cute and he seemed to be a gentleman, so you agreed. “Sure. I'll give you a dance or two.”
Tyler looked heartbroken as he watched the stranger take your hand and lead you onto the dance floor. He put one arm around your waist and held your hand as he guided you across the dance floor.
“See, that could have been you.” Boone said.
“Drop it, Boone.” Tyler warned. He no longer was paying attention to the game. He kept watching you on the dance floor with the stranger.
The song ended and you nodded to the man, “Thanks for the dance.”
“Hey...one more?” he asked, squeezing your arm a little too tightly, making you feel uneasy.
“No, I think I am going to go back over there with my friends. I need a break.” You give him a smile, trying to be nice.
Tyler was watching, noticing the stranger holding your arm, but unable hear what was being said. He sat his pool stick down and started to walk briskly over to the dance floor, his eyes never leaving you.
“I said one more dance! Don't be a tease!” the stranger pulled you roughly against him, and grabbed your ass with his hands.
Tyler took off running to the dance floor, grabbing the man by the shirt and slinging him to the floor in one brisk movement. “Keep your damn hands off of her.” he roared, towing over the man.
“And who the hell are you?” the man jumped up, getting into Tyler's face.
“None of your damn business who I am. I said keep your hands off of her. Get the hell out of here!” he took a step towards the stranger.
The man threw a punch towards Tyler, which he ducked, grabbing the man by the neck and slamming him against the wall, “You best be getting the hell out of here, before I take this out to the parking lot.” Tyler seethed.
“Okay Okay. Whatever.” the stranger muttered, putting his hands up. “She was just a big tease anyhow.” he mutter.
Tyler took the man and tossed him to the floor, ready to throw another punch when you walked up to him, putting a hand on his arm. “It's okay. Let him go.” you whisper as the man scrambled to his feet and headed for the door.
“You okay?” Tyler asked, wrapping an arm protectively around you.
“Yeah, but I think I am done for the night. I am going to head home.” you say.
“Alright. Give me a minute to pay our tab and I'll follow you.” Tyler said, “Make sure that creep isn't out there or tries to follow you or anything.”
“Thank you.” you give him a smiled.
“Anytime, sweetheart.” he winks.
You heart flutters a little when Tyler calls you 'sweetheart.' That used to be his nickname for you all those years ago. You never did allow anyone else to call you that. You wait at the door while Tyler talks to his team, pays the tab and then places a hand on your shoulder as you both walk out the door together. He walks you to the car, checking all around the parking lot to make sure there was no one standing out there.
Tyler waits until you are safely in the car with the doors locked, “Maybe I'll see you tomorrow?” he says.
“Yeah, maybe.” you nod.
“Alright, wait until I get my truck started and I'll follow you home.”
You nod and Tyler jogs to his truck, firing it up. You pull out of the parking lot and he is right behind you. Once you reach your drive way, he honks his horn and seeing no other cars on the road, pulls into his own drive.
