Not exactly optimistic about Hannah Moscovitch... but I can't deny I'm relieved that at least Rolin Jones is removed. Him skipping his scheduled appearance at SDCC gave me D&D flashbacks from after the disastrous finale of GoT.
Back then, these two cowards also skipped their scheduled appearance, because they didn't want to face all the millions of people they disappointed. Rolin Jones doing the same thing now is a proof that he and AMC are very much aware of the true feelings of the vast majority of the audience about TVL. Maybe they don't care, but they have most definitely noticed. And I don't think Rolin Jones simply stepped down; I think that he was forcefully removed, and he was bitter about it, and that's another reason why he did not attend the event.
Like I said, I don't want to get my hopes up, but I suspect that Jones being removed is good news for the characters of the show. I think it might give them some room to breathe. That guy is clearly obsessed with Lestat and only him - basically a Lescel of the worst kind. And this is also partly why I strongly believe that in the first couple of seasons he was simply indifferent to Armand, and then he felt really angry and frustrated that he became a fan favorite despite how they tried to villainize him. People loving Armand (and Assad) so much made him despise the character.
This is why the entire Lesmand history from Paris was excluded from the show. This is why Armand (a major fan favorite and one of the show's protagonists in S2) had minimal screen time this entire season. This is why literally every single character constantly degrades and humiliates him with the cruelest of words (that's Rolin Jones voicing his own opinion for Armand). This is why he dismissed Assad's apparently very heartfelt and sweet version of Armand's letter to Daniel. This is why Devil's Minion was butchered, given less than 5 minutes of screentime and regressed to just 52 years of stalking. And this is why Assad's allegedly best acting scene ever was cut from the finale. It was all due to Jones's hatred for the character.
Rolin Jones hates Armand and he also hates Daniel as an extension of him and his storyline (and what do you know, Daniel's character was also horribly written this season, for the most part). He hates Devil's Minion and hates that they're as popular as his main Loustat OTP. I think it was very telling how resentful he sounded in the last After Dark, when he said that the audience is finally ready to have "some things" with Armand and Daniel. Like "yeah yeah, we know, you bitches, we know you want Devil's Minion, STFU about it already." And note here that this was not a promise to do right by them; it was just him acknowledging that he knows what the audience wants. And probably doesn't give a shit about it.
I do think Moscovitch likes and understands Armand and Devil's Minion better than Jones (she was the co-writter of S2E05). I don't exactly have hope, but she definitely doesn't have the same resentment and hatred that Jones has for everyone that isn't Lestat.
And so... Queen of the Damned it is. We'll just have to wait and see what happens, I guess.
Hopefully nothing like TVL, at least.
