Hello, I'm Mamaangiwine but you can call me Bix. I'm occasionally gender queer, but She/Her is fine. I am twenty eight, and I live in the North West with my family consisting of one Dark Prince (my cat), one Golden Goof (my dog) and my partners who I consider to be my best friends and main party.

I am a huge nerd. I love D&D, most things fantasy, folk horror, cryptids and other cringey, spooky stuff. I also have an interest in fashion, art and muzak. I have two associates: one in literature and one in writing, and consider myself to be a writer and an artist. Be warned: I write pretty poetry, but I swear like a sailor.

I'm a folk practcioner, but also dabble in Grimoire Magic. My heritage is Ojibwe, Azorian and Hungarian and I try to incorporate all of those traditions into my practice. I have been doing magic off and on since I was twelve, and have been fully dedicated for four years. I work with a wide range of spirits; angels, demons, saints, as well as my ancestors, various gods and other manitous.

Generally speaking I am a sorcerer, but I prefer the title of "Good Woman". I am a doula, and hope one day to be a midwife and an herbalist. I am also a proffesional dream interpreter, chiromancer, and tarot reader and I am currently learning astrology.

It's appalling how there are so many people who want to take up folk magic while also being classist and spreading harmful stereotypes about the people from the region said folk magic comes from.

The other thing you gotta keep in mind is, yeah- what does that mean? What does it mean when someone says people are becoming more "aware" or "waking up" to magic?

That's, like, very New Age.

What exactly is supposed to happen if people started worshipping the gods enmasse? What is supposed to change if people started practicing folk or ritual magic more regularly (though one could really argue society already does)?

I mean, sure, I suppose for the sake of argument we could say that there might be more dedicated time and spaces for such things (Would there though? Would there really?).

People wouldn't necessarily become better people just because they started practicing magic or spirituality. As I've said on this blog multiple times- 'witch', 'wizard', 'sorcerer'...they're neutral terms, and plenty of shitty people use them to describe themselves.

Likewise, society isn't going to return to some "before" time, or be launched into some spiritual "golden age". There's no such thing and, even if there was, that "golden age" would look different to different people.

Something I see every so often and in cycles is this idea that society at large is "waking up" or becoming more "aware" of magic and the occult due to references that various media may make, or things that celebrities might say- Tarot Card or Astrology references in a music video, an actress mentioning crystals or divination, a new movie that seems to have some Latin invocation, or perhaps even a real seal in it-

But like, media is often the worst representation of magic, paganism and the occult: Paganism is often interpreted as an ancient evil that should be left alone, a straight up cult, or a fantasy inspired by romantic writings (often tied to the folkish movement). Magic texts are often plundered for their imagery, the names of demons, angels, or various other spirits and entities- but the philosophy behind those entities and the purpose of their rituals is often warped for narrative purposes. The mention of Tarot Cards and Astrology, in anything from music to novels, is usually a sloppy shortcut to make the end product feel like it has more meaning, but it's understanding is obviously surface level and impersonal.

Don't even get me started on poc practices.

To give an example, you can often pick up a book of witchcraft written in the 2000s and see some remark on how the HP series was "waking people up" to magic. And though I'm sure many were inspired to look more in depth, there are also many who never went farther than what they found between those pages.

More often than not, magic is referenced in media because people don't understand it- it is not evidence of some greater happening.

I haven't been posting because I have been doing one single ritual for *weeks* (actually months now) and I have failed two times to do it consistently.

This is my third attempt. To fail again would mean cleansing myself and reorienting myself, because I cannot fail. It is not an option.

It is taking up all my time and space for magic and mystical thought.

Regardless though, I'm learning a lot...but c'mon. Who does this to themselves?

Earth is actually composed of two distinct planets: one that is approximately 6,000 years old and another that is approximately 4.5 billion years old. These two Earths exist in different energy states, with one being in a high-energy state and the other in a low-energy state. In ancient scriptures, they are referred to as the spirit Earth and the temporal Earth.

At some point, which could be today or in the near future, these two Earths will physically separate. The high vibrational Earth will detach from the lower vibrational Earth, similar to how the human spirit separates from the physical body. This separation is not a literal split down the middle but rather a gradual phase apart. The result will be two separate planets moving in different directions in space: one with a high vibrational frequency and the other with a lower vibrational frequency.

As this separation occurs, each individual will have the choice to align themselves with either the high vibrational Earth or the lower vibrational Earth based on their own vibrational alignment. Those who choose to align themselves with the high vibrational Earth, also known as the spiritual Earth, and do the inner work required, will become less aware of the darker and more temporal, harmful energies. On the other hand, those who are unable or unwilling to accept the higher vibrational frequency will remain in their chosen Earth.

In essence, this represents a significant shift for humanity, as we are faced with the choice of which Earth we will align ourselves with based on our vibrational frequency. It suggests that those who consciously choose the path of personal growth, spiritual development, and alignment with higher frequencies will transition to the high vibrational Earth, while those who are resistant or unable to embrace the higher vibrations will remain in the lower vibrational Earth.

You New Agers were saying this was supposed to happen back around 2022-2023. Your prediction has already failed.

Hi! You mentioned in your tags several days ago that angels (& demons?) are more like mushrooms than computers, would you happen to have places to look into that comparison more?

Sorry for the late reply, and sorry- no. This honestly just comes from my own experience (I suppose I should have said 'UPG' in those tags).

The reason I find angels to be a bit like mushrooms is because angels, like mushrooms, are a form made up by the very same substance that makes the vast network they are apart of. All the same network, and yet aware that they are themselves and capable of communicating with their various aspects.

Themselves yet together.

Now unlike mushrooms, angels very much have seats of power and governance. There is a hierarchy and I have appealed to numerous angels of various status- but there has always been something different in my interactions with angels that I couldn't quite put my finger on until I read Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake (particularly one passage that I couldn't seem to find again). There is a strange sort of uncanny lack of personal-identity to most angels, and a kind of unrelenting, unblinking, sameness that reminds me a lot of what Merlin Sheldrake describes in his book (I say most because some angels, particularly the more well known ones, do have rather large personalities for reasons that I may explain some other time). It just seemed apt as a metaphor in the way they communicate and function in comparison to other spirits- and how they are, like, everywhere.

When I sing in Encohian, anywhere at any time- the shower in spring, the forest in summer, around a fire with friends in winter- it feels like I'm lifting up a moldy old log, or looking under knotted tree roots, and noticing rings of mushrooms. It's not that the angels are summoned to me- they're just already there, beneath the wet earth that is our physical reality.

This post is in answer to another post I saw from a mutual in which someone said that those of Abrahamic faiths have no business calling themselves "witches".

To which I say- they have all the business in the world.

Our modern landscape surrounding magic and the occult would not be the same without these thinkers and contributors to magical thought and theory.

Many people believe that magic spaces should be gatekept from people who practice Abrahamic faiths but, particularly in Western Traditions, their histories are the very gate you pass through.

I think one of the reasons some people get upset when told that they are interacting with something from a closed practice, and that their ideas of the entity they think they've been working with are incorrect and misinformed, is because they feel as though they are being told that the interactions they experienced were fake or a product of their mind- that they were imagining it.

And like, nah, I don't think that's true.

It simply means you were mistaken about the nature of the thing you were interacting with- and like, I don't know why that would make you angry? Or offend you? It's something that happens in every field.

Like this isn't by any means a perfect metaphor as, yes, subjectivity is inherent in spirituality (though that word is often used in place of "I get to believe whatever I want forever and ever") but, for instance-

People mistake mushrooms for other mushrooms all the time- even survivalists and full time foragers...sometimes to deadly effect. If I were to tell someone they misidentified a mushroom, that's not me saying "You don't know what a mushroom is, and all your experiences with mushrooms are imaginary." It's me saying "you are incorrect about the nature of this particular mushroom, because it's not the mushroom you think it is. Granted, I can see why you confused it with the other- but it is not that mushroom." And would probably hope that you would just start referring to your mushroom by its actual name (you can even make that name up if you were the one who discovered it!) because to do otherwise is a disservice to yourself and people who would otherwise take your word for it.

Inversely, I would also hope that if you told me that you were looking for a particular mushroom and I said "Uh, hey...don't eat that mushroom. My ancestors learned pretty early on that mushroom is poisonous and you're clearly misinformed about its effects and benefits..." you wouldn't just pop the damn thing into your mouth just to make a point.

Theres a difference in saying that the popular sects of magic people know about have foundations in Abrahamic religions and making a blanket statement as if its true for everything in general. Nothing about your post reads as if its in response to another post, and im not trying to be difficult or contrarian or an asshole here at all, truly.

If youre going to talk about western practices and the significance of that influence on magic (and since you used it as an example-astrology [bc that in and of itself is a deep topic in regards to vedic, sidereal, tropical, etc]).

If anyone wants a strong introduction into this, there’s a great free online class called Magic in the Middle Ages on Coursera. It gets into Christian, Muslim, and Jewish magic and heresy at that time, astrology as a precursor to modern astronomy, how different kinds of magic traveled between cultures, etc.

Another great introduction is FYMA: A Lesser Key to the Appropriation of Jewish Magic & Mysticism by Ezra Rose as an introduction to the Jewish origins of many major esoteric movements and new age magic.

There are many other wonderful resources on this and it’s worth learning where your idea of magic was born and developed!

Another fun fact today: the first autobiography in English was by Margery Kempe, a mystic who experienced visions of demons among other things.

As long as we have been writing things down, people have been documenting mysticism and magic, usually beginning in the major religion(s) of the time and place. We would not have magic without Jewish, Christian, and Muslim peoples and their work.
