Tim and Lucy make it back to Lucy’s house in this chapter. There are bets, the Kojo reunion, teasing, kissing, and much more. The next chapter of Worth the Wait is here!
They had only made it a few steps out of the building and barely out from under the entryway awning when Lucy pulled them to an abrupt stop. She looked up at the sky and took a deep breath, her face glowing in the sun. After a moment, she glanced at Tim who was looking at her curiously. She smiled a little wider. “You know that look that everyone gets with they’re released from prison or even just from holding? When their eyes light up because they’re free, and nothing is wrong in the world?” She paused for a moment and looked back up at the sky. “That’s what this feels like right now.”
Tim chuckled. “You weren’t even in there three full days.”
Lucy furrowed her brow and narrowed her eyes at him. “That’s not the point. The length of time is irrelevant,” she said shaking her head. “It’s just the concept that I was held there, and now I’m free.”
Tim smiled back at Lucy lovingly. “Okay. Well, congratulations on your freedom. Does that mean you’re going to celebrate like someone released from jail, too?”
A mischievous smile took over Lucy’s face. “And plan my next crime? Or revenge on the guy that put me in there?” She started walking again, her arm wrapped a little tighter around Tim’s bicep.
“Sure. Or do something else stupid like binge-drink or speed down the freeway or chain-smoke a whole pack of cigarettes…”
“Umm hmm… Exactly,” she said nodding as they stepped off of the sidewalk into the parking lot. “Or find my man that I’ve been missing so badly that all I want to do have sex for the next three days…”
This time it was Tim that stopped them. For a moment, it looked like his brain was a little bit broken as his jaw slackened and his eyes opened wide while the rest of him froze in place. Then he slowly moved his head back and forth with a warning look at Lucy.
“Come on, Bradford,” she said, fully aware of the effect she had on him as she raised her eyebrows and tugged him to start walking again. “Take me home.”
Tim cleared his throat and allowed Lucy to drag him to start walking again. “Yes, ma’am,” he said with a low, gravelly voice as his eyes traveled up and down her body. “Yes, Captain.”
“Mmmm…” Lucy hummed. “I’ve been called that a lot lately, but I like the way that sounds rolling off of your lips.” She turned her body to face his and smiled into a sweet kiss. “No one else makes me curl my toes when they call me ‘captain,’” she whispered against his lips. Then she went back for just one more little kiss.
After they had taken a few more steps, Tim laughed softly as he looked over at Lucy who was still beaming with joy. “Oh, you are totally going to be the one to tip everyone off that we’re together.”
“What?” Lucy said with a surprised look on her face. “No way.”
“You can’t even make it through the parking lot before you start talking about having sex for three days with someone you’ve been missing and then you start kissing me. There’s no way you’re going to be able to keep us a secret from the kids and our friends, let alone ‘take it slow,’” he said as he started walking again.
“I can totally keep a secret,” Lucy insisted. “I think you’ve forgotten how awesome I am at UC.”
“First, you haven’t done UC in years. You might be a bit rusty,” he said hedgingly. “And second, this isn’t a UC assignment. It’s your house and our kids,” he said matter-of-factly. “And third, apparently, you find me… irresistible.” He looked at her with a cocky grin that she did, in all actuality, find both infuriating and irresistible.
Lucy narrowed her eyes at him. “Oooo… Do I feel a bet coming on?”
“Only if you want to lose,” he said with an air of overconfidence.
