A walk with my son over the weekend led me to this beautiful summer scene... The light was spectacular that evening... So I painted it. It was a nice break from my usual stuff. I love painting... Often it doesn't matter so much what the subject is. I am interested in a sort of mood more than subject... An experience over a genre. The fun part in this one was all those great colors in the shadows (most of the painting is shadow)!

Daily painting: (from the archives). Oil on canvas. 12 x 12. This was a SPEED painting/sketch of some balsamic vinegar and tomatoes on the vine... I painted this immediately after returning from an Italy trip... I was already missing it! Italy is my favorite travel spot. What's yours?

(quick study) Thank you to the amazing @lilit_gol for the inspiration for this painting. I had no idea what to paint late last night when I stumbled onto her great page of beautiful photos. I quickly got to work combining a couple of the pictures to paint this! Collaboration and connection are why I love Instagram... And this is a perfect example of that working well... My daily painting: (quick study of Sorolla, oil on board) this tiny master copy was done a long time ago... But it felt so so appropriate for today. I have always loved Sorolla's incredible work (his museum in Madrid is amazing)... I continue to learn so much from him!

18 x 24 oil on canvas. Here is a plein air study from a few seasons ago... I found this and a few others in our storage when we were doing some spring cleaning last week. I kind of like it for a study! It was a challenge (since I don't do plein air all the time) to go that big for a plein air painting, but I think it worked out well enough. What a beautiful day of painting. Good friends and good location... Great memories!

(please zoom in for the details) Finally finished 30x30: this one is for a series I have been working on since March. The idea came from trying to paint Night and the deep Waters of the subconscious... I love the parallel of the night sky filled with stars and the dark Waters filled with creatures of the deep... The stars reflecting in their eyes. Best wishes dreamers...
