This year, I spent an evening brainstorming to Cohenâs songs, and when I got to âAnthemâ, it brought back memories and feelings from certain periods in my life. This is the result.
âRing the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
Thatâs how the light gets inâ
Thanks to regionalpancake for organising this event. <3
Hi! Do you like comics/ graphic novels? Are you also a massive Avorah from Hacks fan? *sneak peek below*
If so, (thanks to the Avorah book clubbers enthusiasm) I am pleased to announce that (hopefully today) I will be starting to post Acrimony- my lawyer AU Avorah fic as a comic from the beginning of Deborah and Ava meeting. Not from where written Acrimony starts, but the whole gritty, unhinged and roller coaster of a ride they have been on. I am having an easier time using a tablet right now than my heavy laptop, so I figured why not actually start my dream of doing comics/ graphic novels than with our ladies! I canât promise regular updates (as usual, chronic illnesses be chronic) but I must say I am really loving this style combined with the canon moments we know and love, and showing vs telling.
I do promise that when Iâm able to sit with a laptop for 12 hours a day again that I will get back to the written version!
Hereâs your sneak peek of what you can expect without fully giving away the rest!
I didnât always like the idea of Janeway becoming an Admiral after bringing Voyager home. But I think I can see it.
I could see Kathryn Janeway returning to the Alpha Quadrant in the wake of the Dominion War and a lot of her fellow captains thinking she had it easy by âgetting her ship lostâ. And then the shipâs logs start hitting general access after the debriefings are over. (The same way Janeway was able to pull other captainâs logs for reference).
And her fellow rank-and-file get the logs dealing with the Borg, the Hirogen, Species 8472, the Vidiians, the telepathic pitcher plant, the macrovirus, what have you. And combining all that with making the journey in seven years and the fact that the entire Voyager crew is now a highly trained influx of fresh staffing after the Dominion War, with seven years of Janewayâs desperate insistence on Starfleet morals informing them?
Suddenly Janewayâs crew is captains and commanders and lieutenants, and sheâs this Teddy Roosevelt-esque figure in Starfleet in that sheâs revered for her leadership but also considered the type of admirably insane that wins wars.
And right about this time Janeway is looking at how Starfleet principles - the very same principles she clung to for her own sanity for seven years - have distorted and changed to be more war-like after the Dominion took so many lives, and sheâs thinking â???? have you all??? gone mad???? you know what, yeah, put me in charge.â
The admiralty thinks theyâre pulling one over on her by getting her innovative/insane mind to accept a desk job. Jokes on them, after seven years of being an absolute authority on Starfleet principles wherever she goes, sheâs perfectly happy to be back in a spot where she canât be outranked.
I love this and agree with your take 100%. I just want to add that the first Janeway that makes it back to the alpha quadrant much later probably is a lot more aligned with the new more cynical federation and/or sheâs become jaded about a system that she no longer believes in. That Janeway had to have years of conversations with the more cynical Starfleet for years before she even got back to Earth. I can imagine Voyager getting many missions where they were ordered to spy/confront Romulans etc during the end of Voyagerâs first journey home that we donât get to see.
So, I can imagine that the admiralty actually achieved their goal of getting Janeway behind a desk when she got back to Earth the first time, but she gets the last laugh when she gets her younger self home much sooner. The younger Janeway that we see has not had her ideals worn out of her, so sheâll take the desk job but this time sheâll use her authority to fight for the Starfleet ideals that she still believes in. In my headcanon the first admiral Janeway accidentally saves the federation when she gets her younger self back home sooner (I personally choose to believe that the Picard series is from an another altered timelineâŚ).
Oh, guys.
I was so bored by Star Trek Discovery. To this day, I still can't name three of the main characters. But â as a loyal Trekkie â I watched it anyway, of course.
At the last episode of the show that is airing right now in Germany. I've spent over 120 minutes watching action alternate with suspense, and then almost 30 minutes for (almost) every storyline to find a (positive) ending, complete with a future chapter for... Burnam?
Okay, it doesn't help us now, but... apparently they did take note of the many tears shed by the Voyager fan community and tried to do better. <3
a feel like the new generation of fanfic readers NEED to understand that clicking on a fic (interaction) does nothing. ao3 has no algorithm. your private discord discussions of fic do not reach the authors. if you do not actively engage with writers they will stop posting. this isnât social media this is community.
All Star Trek Voyager episodes will face off in this tournament in the quest to find the best one.
There are 149 episodes in total, and 148 of them will face off with each other on Round 1.
All the double episodes are counted as one episode.
Because the number of episodes is uneven, Endgame will go directly to Round 2.
No episode in round one goes against another episode from the same season.
I have tried to make the pairings as random as possibly whilst making sure that episodes from one season will be as equally matched with episodes from the other seasons as possible.
Because the pairings are random, there will be some painful matchups and great episodes will be lost in the early rounds BUT thatâs where the wildcards come in.
After all the matchups in Round 1 are done, I will choose the 12 best episodes from the eliminated 77 put them in a Wildcard poll. Two episodes with the most votes will go on to the next round.
In Round 2, 80 episodes will face off with each other.
In Round 3, 40 episodes will face off with each other. After all the matchups are done, I will choose the 12 best episodes from the eliminated 20 put them in a Wildcard poll. Four episodes with the most votes will go on to the next round.
In Round 4, 24 episodes will face off with each other. After all the matchups are done, all 12 eliminated episodes will be put in a Wildcard poll and the four episodes with the most votes will go on to the next round. This is the last Wildcard poll in the tournament.
In Round 5-8, 16 episodes will become one.
The tournament brackets will be updated continuously as the results come in.
