On paper, my partner and I seemed to have all of the obstacles between us. We were both closeted women in our late 20′s, who were dissatisfied with who we were presenting to be. We each started a blog with the hopes of inspiring others to become happier people, as we attempted to do the same for ourselves. Then we started talking to each other. It was easy, natural and unlike any other friendship we had before. But there was another obstacle - over 2,700 miles separated us. We knew our connection was deeper than friendship, so we decided to take a chance and started a long distance relationship. For over a year, we substituted Skype for cuddles, texts for whispers in each others ears and slept next to a laptop instead of each other. But it wasn’t all bad; we were forced to talk for 12 hours a day, instead of being distracted by the physicality of a traditional relationship. It made us closer than we feel we ever could have gotten otherwise. We knew we wanted to be together, so in January of 2015, we decided to start working on getting her a working holiday visa so that she could come live with me. After 4 months of painstaking paperwork and bureaucracy, we had it and in July 2015, she moved across the world to be with me. It has proven to us that we are meant to be and that together, we can overcome anything. Love is Love.
