Can you further explain how evermore is like speak now? I feel it but I can’t figure out why
I feel like it carries this vibe of unapologetic ness saying what you need to, and being introspective about why you want to say it - if not from her personal perspective, from someone’s. Like denying someone’s proposal, wishing someone was the same person you knew when you were kids and rekindling with them while they’re home, thinking about the things you wish you could say to a long lost grandparent, etc. it also puts the same focus and prominence on very detail oriented storytelling, and that remains consistent across the whole album in the same way it was with speak now. There are a lot of similar plots and if not similar plots, a lot of the same feelings that wound up creating some of Speak Now’s plots are present in almost every song in one way or another.
I also think it’s because it’s country and a has a use of classically Nashville instruments, but it’s not like, on-the-nose country - a lot of the tracks on speak now would’ve been considered pop tracks if they were on another artists album, and tracks like Marjorie and Tis The Damn Season and Cowboy like me would be country songs if on a country artists album (and no body no crime obviously just is a country song).
And then lastly I think a lot of sonic elements and sensory words in it just have a similar wintery, enchanting, magical feeling - the banjo and chorus of willow, the chimes in gold rush, talking about being “barefoot in the wildest winter”, “your Midas touch on the Chevy door”, etc

i think one of taylor’s best strengths as a songwriter is her ability to portray the smaller moments of love and heartbreak, the smaller moments that hurt the most. all too well isn’t “you hurt me you broke me i hate you because i once loved you”, it’s “i loved you and now i have all these memories and pointless knowledge about you and i no longer have any use for it.” you are in love and lover are two of her most romantic songs because they’re not about the grand gestures, they’re about the day to day stuff that makes a relationship. when she says “i thought i saw you at the bus stop, i didn’t though” in the 1, because you’re always subconsciously thinking about and looking for the people you once loved. or the memories and feelings come again out of nowhere, when you’re having coffee all alone and lord, it takes you away. cardigan is specific details and moments across the span of years, but august is just the same memory over and over, because betty knew james better. back to december opens with “how’s life, tell me how’s your family” because a relationship can end but you still wonder about the people in their life. the dress in clean is wine stained and she can’t wear it anymore, but it’s still in her closet: she still has it. because when you love someone and you lose someone, it’s not a one and done thing. you’ll always have those little things. people plant seeds in the gardens of our hearts and even if we cut them down, the roots still remain, wrapped around us forevermore.
i’ve been thinking about how evermore has this theme of words that are going unsaid. things written that will go unsent; things sung that will never be heard. things like that. and there are callbacks in between songs too. so ‘tis the damn season sounds like a practice phone call—cowboy like me calls back to this with the line “now i’m waiting by the phone / like i’m in an airport bar”—but of course when the actual call is made most of that will go unsaid. dorothea reads like an unsent letter, complete with direct address. in evermore, she sings about “letters addressed to the fire,” or letters written and then burned, never to be read. in closure, a letter is received but spurned; a song is sung about how the narrator’s reply is basically that there will be no reply. still, this will go unsaid. the sender of the letter whom the singer of closure is addressing will never know of her sentiment that she doesn’t need the closure, because she isn’t sending any closure back to him. this echoes throughout the album, this lack of closure due to leaving things unsaid. in tolerate it, the narrator sings in the bridge that she could leave, she could end the relationship, “believe me, i could do it.” but in the end she returns to that same “i sit and watch you” line—she doesn’t express her concerns (if it’s all in my head tell me now) and she doesn’t leave what she suspects to be an unhealthy relationship. she says nothing. marjorie: a love letter to memory, basically. maybe the only letter sent, but it, too, will go unread. champagne problems: an undelivered monologue reasoning why she said no. the addressee of that monologue will never receive it, either. the whole album is tinged with regret, often for how things went, but also often for not being able to reach out. here are all these collected words unsaid. letters addressed to the fire. an album in autumn colors—or the colors of dying flames.

Hi, i'm coming back here for a very important reason I hope people understand and respect. I feel ashamed for talking about these things here but I wasn't so desperate and in need I wouldn't even mention it.
As most of you know, I live in Venezuela, a country that has been in crisis for a long time. And for the last 5 years, nothing has been easy. Almost 4 years ago, my family and I had to say goodbye to my father who moved out of the country to help us survive this mess, and it all has been in 'control'. But ever since the world has stopped everything for a very important reason (and you should stay home), my father hasn't been working so he can't send money or even pay his own bills, he is eating only twice a day so he can have food for more days. It's all been insane and I have kept my problems shut and pray everyday to get through this.
We only don't have my fathers financial help, we also have other problems here in my town, specifically in my community and street, we don't have water. And we have to pay someone who can bring water to our place and it's very expensive. Every thing is coming all together and it's very suffocating and stressing. I hate seeing my mom so tired desperate, it makes my heart ache.
Due to this pandemic alert, we can't go out and work, or try to make money cause nobody is actually working here. In this moment of need, I just need someone to tell me it's going to be okay, I know there are a lot of people who are in my position and honestly I pray everyday for everyone in this world, so that we can be safe, healthy and find ways to make it possible.
@taylorswift I know there are many many people doing this and you might not see this but I'm glad this can be a place where I can open my heart and try to calm myself. @taylornation
