Drape Decoded: Saree Fall becomes a Shawl! 11th Edition
So I used to write a series of fashion blog posts titled [Drape a Saree Different] but I came up with a cooler name for the series (or at least I think so); Welcome to âDrape Decodedâ the 12th Edition. This series has been paused for quite a while because I didnât come across any innovative drapes for the longest time. Well, trust Sonam Kapoor to help the series make a comeback!
[Sonam Kapoor] sported this drape for the promotions of her movie âPadmanâ, coming out in January 2018. First things first, sheâs wearing:

Drape Decoded: Itâs not that complicated and rather creative. Sonamâs saree starts being draped like a regular seedha pallu (when the pallu comes to the front, typical in North Indian states), it goes round and the pleats are placed before the pallu is taken back.Â
For this drape the length for the pallu is much longer, hence why the pleats at the front arenât as numerous as normal. Once the pallu material is taken back it is brought over the right shoulder, made to form a V-shape and the remaining length of the pallu goes over and behind the left shoulder. Itâs almost like a one piece lehenga!
A few words about her saree: It is a Hemang Agrawal metallic banarasi silk saree in silver and gold. The designer is known for his use of metals in fabric. They are hand loomed and have a statement houndstooth pattern, which you can see being formed in the picture below.
Her blouse is in the cut of a waist coat, as you can see below.

Now that the year is coming to an end here are some of my personal fashion highlights of 2017:Â
Consistency and Variety: Taapsee PannuÂ
Taapseeâs styling has been very consisten this year and impressive too. Iâve posted many of her looks throughout the year, kudos to her stylist for putting together such lovely looks.The consistency is in the quality of the styling, there is still a lot of variety as the pictures below prove. Bridal: Samanthaâs weddingÂ

The look below was my personal favourite. Itâs classic, so well put together and it will never age in a hundred years. I love that she didnât go for a look with heavy make up, her skin is glowing and thatâs as pretty as it gets! Such a gorgeous bride. The year ends with Anushka Sharmaâs bridal look, which was beautiful too but the jewellery wasnât for me. The pastels she went for were nice though.
International Fashion Moment:
 Aishwarya Rai at Cannes 2017
 Wearing the iconic Michael Cinco Cinderella dress. It got global recognition and was one of the best outfits the red carpet saw. This iconic dress was loved by everyone and to be honest no one is over it yet. One of Cannesâ greatest red carpet moments ever! After she wore it many people across the globe wanted something similar. This dress did the most for the red carpet!
Glam:
 Alia bhatt at IIFA 2017
She wore this beautiful Zuhair Murad couture gown. The stones are amazing! Her minimal makeup and sleek hair really let the dress shine brighter. Love that she opted for no accessories and the black nails are great!
Accessories:Â
This year was the year for nice earrings. Earrings really lift a look, a simple outfit can easily be made elegant with the right pair of earrings. 2017 was the year for long, rather detailes earrings. My favourite look was Lee Sung Kyungâs here:
Lee sung Kyung x Burberry
 Sheâs so beautiful! I fell in love with this look because itâs so unconventional for Burberry, they kept it simple and nice. The earrings steal the show.

Trends:
Banarasi Silk was featured a lot this year. Iâm still loyal to Kanchivaram silk butâŚ
The Banarasi Silk Lehenga
Iâm not into nylons, so the lehengaâs I own are all silk anyway; but this year theyâve really been worn and got the attention they deserve. Banarasi silk is perfect for lehengas, itâs not as heavy as a kanchivaram but still has that traditional silk look to it.
