The person who starts the thread gets the setting. ESPECIALLY in greeters. If they donāt mention the setting, assume itās in the OPās environment, not yours. YOU followed THEM; think of that in a literal sense and this gets much easier to grasp.
NEVER call anyone fictional. I donāt care what your headcanons are, itās rude and awkward for mods, and worse for characters. Youāre telling them they arenāt real: thatād get a WTF at best and an existential crisis at worst.
ANSWER QUESTIONS. RP is improv, and one of the operating principles is āyes, andā. If you shut down a question, you shut down the route of plot the other person was trying to take. Give detail, elaborate. I know lots of people have tight-lipped muses, but it makes for dull exchanges that end up in one-liners or worse, one word.
Adapt to the OPās style. This is more of a personal peeve, but if the OP posts in āa form like this,ā where speech is punctuated, instead of like this -action is punctuated-, FOLLOW SUIT. Posts look more uniform and are easier for readers to follow.
Never ever ever reblog as a link, and trim your goddamned posts. This oneās been done to death, but it should be here anyhow.
Proofread. Typos, missed/repeated words, these things make your writing difficult to read or understand. Be conscientious! Catching them before you post saves everyone headaches.
If you want to reblog an askbox meme, send one to the person you reblogged from. Or be sneaky by going to the original post, waiting a few minutes (varies depending on the speed of your dash) and reblog that way.
Itās okay to have standards. If someoneās style/content isnāt up to snuff or they rub you the wrong way, youāre not obligated to play with them.
Communication is ridiculously important. If your character wants to do something big, like start a fight, contact the other mod via ask or fanmail first. Some people use tags, but for me, I realised this almost feels like a brush-off, like itās not open to discussion as much as it is just letting you know. If another mod isnāt comfortable with what your instincts (muse) wanted to do, donāt do it.
Keep out of the tags. With things like advertisements, new threads or pictures with RP-centric captions, donāt tag them with the celebrities, places, or characters involved, especially for real people. People in a celebrityās tag arenāt looking to see an ad for the actor as a FC. People in a characterās tag arenāt looking to see your threads. People looking for RP should be looking in more pertinent tags, and you should be posting in them. Instead of tagging the characterās name, tag their url. Instead of tagging, say, āJohnny Deppā on a RP group ad, tag āJohnny Depp FCā.
Donāt RP on someone elseās photo. Ever. Getting notes on a post is nice, but once it turns into a conversation between RPers they neither know nor care about, they will probably want to peel your eyeballs and make you eat them. If you talk on a photo youāve posted itās a bit different, but change it to a text thread after a few exchanges, to be kind to your followers (who donāt need to see the same photo 20 times in a row).
Have fun; as soon as roleplaying feels like an obligation, chore or just not fun anymore, take a break. You arenāt getting paid. Your health and happiness are more important than any thread.
