Why go the extra mile and learn Esperanto when you can learn Occitan which can essentially enable you to be understood in both Spain, Italy and France?

Occitan > Esperanto. I will die on this hill.

And I’ll die on the hill that Esperanto is just Spanish with a French accent and Occitan is just french a Spanish accent

About Occitan, it depends on what you mean by being understood: it is spoken in three countries, but only in a very small part of two of them.

If you mean that it’s mutually comprehensible with the official languages of those three countries, I kinda agree on Spain and Italy, but IIRC when French wasn’t common in Languedoc (?) it wasn’t understood by Occitan speakers, so I’m not sure Occitan would be understood by French speakers (except written, in which case it probably would).

And about your tags Esperanto has native speakers so by rights it has an accent (arguably more). And at any rate Esperanto aims at being worldwide, not panromantic (that’d be Interlingua I think, a completely different conlang).

I didnt grew up in south france bc my mom’s from canada but im very much south french. I got very limited contact with occitan in my childhood (cuz my dad only understands it, he doesnt speak it) yet i can still sorta get it, both orally and written. I’m pretty sure my 100% French Canadian friends wouldn’t though and I’m pretty surw it has something to do with whether they can understand the South French accent or not, because when you do get it (the accent), it’s way easier to get occitan
