I only have your best interests at heart when I say you should be careful. ❞ But the words came out sarcastic and bitter-sweet, much as his had done when he spoke of being a Good Samaritan.

It wasn’t that Cheryl didn’t think any harm might come of it… on the contrary, she had no idea what to expect. Veronica Lodge had shown herself capable of using people at will and yet, she’d also shown herself capable of being one of the nicest and most genuine souls. Cheryl was just jealous. In so many ways.

❝ Au contraire, there are much better places for you to spend your weekend nights if you need an escape. ❞ She explained this with a simple smile and her hand reached out, soft and dainty, to brush over the side of Reggie’s jawline and down his neck before she looked away. She busied herself with changing the song.

“Be careful, she says.” Reggie replied with an airy tone. “Of?” he gave her the chance to give the extended details on what exactly he was supposed to be careful of, or whom. That of which, he already knew would be trivial, but, entertained the idea anyhow.

Reggie continued to go along with Cheryl’s spree of toying motions. The two of them knew their history, or well, lack there of, in this department. All by Jason’s request. Reggie had honored the off-limits tag that’d been branded on Cheryl, and frankly, he’d found her actions pretty nervy. Not that he hated it. All factors and circumstances aside, Reggie wouldn’t have generally recoiled from Cheryl.

“Oh, I’ll bet.” he submitted with a slight sarcasm. “You know I’m down.” Reggie slowly moved his gaze, following where her hand rest at his neck, and to Cheryl. He eyed her for a passing moment. “So, is this a new thing? First, the warnings... and now, you’re telling me about much better places.” Reggie emphasized. “You’ve got all the answers, huh?”

It wasn’t a bad notion, but it made dating girls kind of tricky considering most of them assumed that he was being sly towards Betty.

“So are you and Midge like, an official thing now?”

“Not even close.” his response shut down any remote idea of him and Midge, exclusively. “The ball-and-chain stuff’ll only lead to trouble; remember that.” Reggie advised his friend with utmost candor.

Breaking into cars was not something new to Murphy, but usually he picked older makes and models that didn’t have serious alarm systems. But seeing a brand new Porsche in his otherwise shitty neighbourhood was far too tempting for him to pass up. Unfortunately the currently wailing alarm and the attention of one of his schools biggest jock douchebags was all he had to show for his best efforts. He shrugged before heading into the elevator, since it was better than running off suspiciously. “Just when I need it. Convenient”

The elevator doors slammed shut. After pressing for two levels up, Reggie turned his attentions back to Murphy. He eyed him warily. Anyone could read the room, and draw the obvious conclusion that the guy was far from innocent. “You know they’ve got cameras, right?”

Jughead just rolled his eyes, giving Reg a sideways glance of contempt. “Yeah, okay,” he said flatly, turning his attention to the book that he’d been so nicely told to open. He ran his finger along the instruction list – it didn’t seem like an experiment that Reggie could turn into a violent explosion, but then again, Jughead knew next to nothing about chemistry and quite a lot about Reggie’s ability to make a scene. “Step one,” he read aloud in his best patronizingly professional voice. “Put on goggles – definitely a good call,” he said, putting on his own. “I’m going to want to witness this. Reggie doing science.”

“Yeah, let’s try getting past prep, first" he said, without any disconcert or frustration. “all that extra commentary—” Reggie hinted, as he adjusted his goggles to fit. “Let’s see... next, ‘check to see that your your partner is correctly wearing their safety goggles.” He quickly turned, grabbing at the bridge of Jughead’s goggles, pulling it forward, so that is reflexed a slam back against his lab partner’s face. “All good.” he taunted, and turned back to the text.
