VERY proud to be irish today as we celebrate a landslide victory for equal marriage with a record turnout of voters. We’ve also made history by being the FIRST Country in the world to legalise same sex marriage by the popular vote of it’s citizens.

Congratulations, but you’re not the first country in history. Canada has protected gay rights and gay marriage since early 2000. But yay!

Thankyou!. We will be the first country in the world where it’s the citizens make it law, not government. Only the citizens of Ireland have the power to change the constitution to make marriage equal for all couples. Other countries with equal marriage, the Government introduced the law (which can be changed/revoked at any time) not the people of the Country by popular vote. We will be the first Country to do that. We already have civil partnerships, but this will enshrine it into our constitution making it permanent & untouchable by any future Government that Marriage between all couples regardless of gender is both equal & State protected. ;).
