Here’s a New Image (Taken Saturday in Switzerland)!
And I’ll share a little insight on my 3 steps to the final image!
Disclaimer: most of the time the creation of an image is a 3 step process; sometimes it’s only 2 (hit or miss); sometimes it’s even 5 or more. But that is only my personal process and yours could be completely different!
So let’s get into detail!
#1 is usually an exploring trip. I do it mostly without a camera as I usually happen to explore on biking trips or meanwhile other projects. So I have a very limited amount of time here and I often only get a quick glimpse. But then a feeling for that place evolves and I evaluate if it might be worthy a detailed location scouting (most of the time it is; I find most locations alongside my biking tours anyways which means I almost always come back a second time).
#2 this brings us to the next step. The detailed scouting. I usually already have an idea in my mind when I explore on step 2 (sometimes I even skip it). Sometimes I also take a camera with me as I get a better feeling for a place when I see it through a lens.
Though these scoutings also often happen during other tours (the only difference is that I then schedule time for the scouting.
#3 after step 2 I always have a solid feeling for the place. I then check the weather forecast as well as other relating topics (season, position of the sun, moon, but also man-made influencers such as weekday/weekend). If everything seems right, I head out (like in the image above).
though sometimes it turns out I need some steps more. #4 comes into consideration when any of the indicators above changed, for example when the weather turned out to be different to what I expected.
Then I redo #3 for one or two times (after three attempts you mostly got what you looked for)
#5 would then be the editing part which sometimes takes another couple of months. But that is another topic.
