I think another one of my favorite royed tropes in fics is Roy realizing he doesn't have to really put up a mask for Ed. Yeah they tease and mess with each other and get on each other's nerves. But I genuinely love the slow built realization Roy has that Edward is just so genuinely earnest and honest (mainly with the people he trusts),even with everything hes been through. He doesn't have to fake it with Edward because they have both seen each other at their worst. Roy is so use to mind games and politics, and having to use the skills that he gain from living with his aunt to create this mask and persona. But with Edward he doesn't have to. Edward tells him right to his face what he thinks and how he feels. Its insane and so vulnerable. And Roy feels safe with that.
