Sakuko finds it difficult to live in a society which operates under the assumption that people will fall in love with each other. She meets supermarket employee Takahashi when she goes to support a "fall-in-love" campaign by her junior at work. She is startled when she hears him say that there are people who don't fall in love. As Sakuko's mother keeps hurrying her to get married, she decides to move out and rent an apartment with her friend but her friend backs out at the last minute after reconciling with her ex-boyfriend. Just when Sakuko is about to give up, she ends up living with Takahashi under one roof because of their similar values towards romance.

Ok but, I was rewatching OFMD (no great news here) when I noticed something. All throughout episode 4 (and very probably in the following episodes as well, but I don't remember at the moment) Izzy is wearing a black mourning band on his right arm.

Now, we also know that Izzy wears a ring around his cravat for the whole show.

And, to add to that, he's the only character among the main cast who ALWAYS only dresses in black. Ivan has a black and white striped shirt, Fang has golden chains and other stuff and we see Ed change clothes at least 4 times throughout the show.

Which brings me to the conclusion:

The ring he wears belonged to a person he loved and, though many years might have gone by since they died, he has never stopped mourning them.
