I was lucky enough to participate in “Café Conversations with Dr. Kim: Creating Community Through Conversation.” Dr. Kim was my classmate at UCLA’s film school a long time ago.  Thanks to Dr. Kim’s engaging, motivating, and insightful guidance, it was a rare, fruitful, refreshing, invaluable, and genuinely fun experience. All the participants were lovely, too. It was wonderful seeing you again, Dr. Baby Little Sis Kim!

I recently participated in a week-long GSCA convention held in Austin and Fort Worth (including a Dome Day) in Texas. It was a productive and enjoyable trip. The weather was hot and humid outside but freezing cold inside, so my body had a hard time adjusting. It was a bit of a hassle to keep putting on and taking off my long-sleeve pullover and light jacket, and I even nearly misplaced my sunglasses a few times in the process.

The conference venue and hotel were right next to the University of Texas, home of the preseason #1–ranked Longhorns, now led by star quarterback Arch Manning. Unlike UCLA—whose home stadium, the Rose Bowl, is 26 miles away in Pasadena, about an hour’s drive—I saw a massive football stadium right there on campus. Speaking of UCLA football (currently struggling miserably), I couldn’t help but remember that unforgettable day on September 13, 1997, when the Bruins crushed the Longhorns 66–3 in Austin. Oh well…

Texas BBQ totally exceeded my expectations. Delicious as always. And Texas itself—once an independent republic, larger than Japan in size—seems destined to thrive even more in the years ahead.

As a teen wrestling and movie fan, I admired Hulk Hogan’s epic bouts with Antonio Inoki and his role in Rocky III. In college, I saw WrestleMania III in L.A. and later appeared with him in The Secret Agent Club. Despite controversies, he inspired boys worldwide. RIP, champ. 🥹🫡🙏🏼🇺🇸🇯🇵🤼‍♀️

After a rainy morning cleared, I joined rugby friends to watch USA vs. Japan women’s rugby at UCLA—on the same field I played on decades ago. The match featured a delayed kickoff, a surprise sprinkler incident, and Japan’s historic 39–33 win over the USA. Though only a few fans supported Japan, we later met rugby stars Alev Kelter and Ilona Maher & her sister, Olivia, capping off a memorable and meaningful day.
