Why Is Sonic An Actual Great Character

Sonic isn’t just a cool, fast hero showing off his speed in Green Hill Zone. His role in the Sonic universe is deeper and simpler than it seems.

Sonic is a static character. That means his personality, values, and beliefs stay consistent throughout every story. He’s always the adventurous, confident guy who wants to live life his own way.

But here’s the key: Sonic’s purpose isn’t about his own personal growth. Instead, he’s there to help others grow.

Think about his friends: Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Shadow—even Elise. They all undergo big changes, and Sonic acts as the steady force who inspires and guides them.

Take Tails, for example. Introduced as a shy kid bullied for having two tails, he looked up to Sonic’s confidence. By Sonic Adventure, Tails learns to believe in himself and step out of Sonic’s shadow, facing Eggman alone for the first time. Sonic’s unwavering nature helps Tails—and many others—become their best selves.

Even characters like Shadow grow thanks to Sonic’s influence, as seen in Sonic Adventure 2, and Chip’s journey in Sonic Unleashed wouldn’t be the same without Sonic’s compassion.

Sonic doesn’t seek to change himself or be the center of attention. He stays true to who he is, acting as a symbol of hope and reliability, always there for those who need him, even Eggman, who gets glimpses of Sonic’s kindness in the IDW comics.

So, Sonic’s story isn’t just about heroics or speed. It’s about being the constant, inspiring force that helps those around him grow.

Just saw a post saying “minors shouldn’t identify as aro/ace” and I wanted to say… fuck you.

No look, okay I get why some people don’t want minors in certain spaces, and that’s fine. DNI minors then, if you want to.

But you can identify as anything at anytime in your life. It doesn’t hurt anyone to identify as one thing and then realise you’re another. It’s growth. Your identity will change as you age. It’s normal. And if it doesn’t? That’s also normal.

Also, from 13-18 (minors in most countries) is the most complexly romantic and sexual time. Obviously I’m not going into detail as again MINORS. But teenagers undergo the most change is hormones, emotional growth, romantic and sexual interest then any other age.

In my opinion, teenage years is when you’re MOST LIKELY to figure out you’re aro/ace. It’s the MOST LIKELY time to question your identity in general. Obviously, again, no age limit, but it’s the most common time for self discovery.

It’s called a “coming of age” story for a reason.
