i noticed that there's not been an active marauders confessions blog in a while, and the hp one is more lightning era focused, so here's a place for your hot takes, vents, or just general thoughts about the marauders era fandom, world, ships, characters etc!!!

i'll post any confession no matter my personal views (but please try to avoid hateful/derogatory language, this is meant to be a safe place)!! you're welcome to your opinion and i am very excited to hear them!

i despise yall for making trans-regulus give birth. As a trans person (with almost no dysphoria) the idea of getting pregnant makes me cry. Adoption is a beautiful thing and i wish it was used more often in fics.

You are asking me to believe that James Potter, whose defining character trait is being ride-or-die for Sirius Black, looked at Sirius’ Death Eater brother from the family that abused him and thought, “yes, this seems like a sensible romantic choice.”

At that point we’re no longer discussing James Potter. We’ve entered an AU where everyone has severe head trauma.

cooper hoffman may be very pretty but I can't see him as peter. peter is chubby, and cooper has a completely average body but people are just so used to the tiniest or most muscular celebrities that suddenly he's representation. can we actually just have fat characters fancasted by fat actors. IT'S NOT THAT HARD THERES LOTS OF FAT PEOPLE OUT THERE!!!

i can be a severus fan and a marauders fan. yeah I'm more into the marauders side and I always write from remus pov in fics, but a lot of severus fans act like you have to support 100% of their actions and would in fact bully ppl yourself if you even say you like them. why have I seen ppl say "you like the marauders because you relate to them" no it's because they're interesting?? do you bully children and join cults and call girls you like slurs??? no. so maybe the characters we like don't effect our values.

also side note I can like both. one doesn't erase the other because THEY ARENT REAL!!!!!

tgere are so many people who claim to adore desi James, tag all their works with indian James Potter, and constantly mention his Indian culture (which, another person peeve of mine is ppl saying he's indian but making No effort to even mention his culture), BUT THEN USE A NON-DESI FANCAST. like yeah it might be difficult to get someone from the exact area you headcanon james' family being from, that's FINE, but if I see 'Indian James Potter!!' in your ao3 tags and proceed to state your FANCAST for this version is a filipino man.....have some awareness i beg. HOT TAKE NOT ALL BROWN MEN ARE THE SAME ETHNICITY!!! crazy that has to be said but hundreds of countries aren't interchangeable if you can't be bothered to find someone who matches the headcanon you CHOOSE to assign him.

Guess this is a critique of fandom culture as a whole, but it grinds my gears when I put blood sweat and tears into a fic, I publish a few chapters, and....nothing. The only comments are bots (yes, I can tell the difference). And yet fics like Atyd are on every recommended list for new fans. Every. Single. One. Bring back finding hidden gems and actually commenting if you want good fics instead of just sorting by 'hits' and 'complete works only.'

Like I write for myself but why would I publish a 10k chapter if seemingly no one gives a shit. Authors are part of your community too they're not just buttons to press to endlessly generate your content while you say nothing. How am I supposed to know you even read it???

My hot takes:

Lily is more interesting than every marauder combined. Her relationship with her sister? Friendship with Snape? So much potential.

Regulus is better as a villain in Hogwarts and morally grey after, making him a misunderstood abused soft boy his whole life who had no choice just makes him dull. Let him have flaws. Let him learn from his wrongdoings, then his sacrifice means something.

Snape didn't deserve to be bullied, but his actions after still should be examined (joining a cult, obsessing over a girl who rejected him and saying he would let her son die, bullying children) instead of just ignoring them because he has trauma. Most characters have trauma, you can enjoy them without tipex-ing over everything not perfectly justified.

Remus is a coward and a doormat and that's a fun part of his character. Making him brave and tough and mean is just...making an OC. Like you're free to do so but name him accordingly. Call him Lemus Rupin if you must but that isn't him.

You can make a fic 70s accurate while keeping everyone queer. You don't need to make it either violently homophobic and heteronormative because 'gay people weren't a thing back then it's not realistic' or a written 2020 discord server.

Characters can have well done, meaningful, fitting arcs without romance being involved. In some cases romance hinders it, but that's typical for all fandoms – ships will be prioritised above literally everything else. But if your only character not being shipped is Peter?? If even Death Eaters with no lines are being shipped, but you think shipping just "doesn't make sense" with Peter? Theres some fatphobic biases you need to unlearn. Fat people can be loved too!

Just a mild pet peeve but it's strange for everyone in the first order to be in the Marauders' year.
