Azriel rescuing Elain is romantic, and him rescuing Gwyn isn't because that is how the scenes are written. SJM herself made Azriel rescuing Elain romantic and rescuing Gwyn a part of his job, which is exactly how Azriel treated the sangravah incident, as a job.

So, are we all going to start rooting for Briar and Azriel too? After all, she was saved in the same way as Elain. There's nothing romantic about either situation; they were rescues from horrible situations.

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with someone liking Azriel saving Gwyn, just as there's nothing wrong with him saving Elain, Briar, Morrigan, Feyre and Lucien, Even ERIS!

Give me a break.

One extra note: after one of you used that "excuse" to avoid getting a response, you should start paying attention to your side of the fandom, not ours.

Absolutely nothing ❤️. Gwynriel's story began from the moments when Nesta and Cassian noticed them looking at each other in the ring. Gwyn sighing and Azriel noticing even from afar. But this Sangravah part is indeed part of their history that nobody is romanticizing, it's what's in the book, showing how they met. Are we supposed to tear the page and pretend it never happened?

If that's the case, then do the same with Rhysand saving Feyre in Calanmai, because the same thing would have happened.

And there was nothing romantic about rescuing Elain, especially since Azriel saved Briar along with her as well, are we supposed to ship them too?

Or when he rescued Mor? Or Feyre and Lucien? Should we all start shipping them then?

Logic from the other side:

There's absolutely no problem with Azriel not wanting Elain to risk anything because he's super protective. But you can't like the part where Azriel saves Gwyn in Sangravah, otherwise you're romanticizing it.

Dude, what kind of argument is that? So everyone's romanticizing Rhysand saving her life in Under the Mountain even with all the crap he did? Are we romanticizing Edward saving Bella?

Why is it okay for Azriel to save Elain, but you complain that we're romanticizing him saving Gwyn? Are you guys running out of arguments?

Both situations were traumatic; one kidnapping neither diminished nor increased the weight of the other. BOTH situations are terrible.

Dude, the character died and came back to life, you cried for nothing. And to make matters worse, ANY OTHER character who dies, you already know you can bring them back, and if the author doesn't bring them back, then it was PURE SCRIPTWRITING, because there's a way to bring them back and he simply didn't want to.

when did nesta own killing hybern and azriel didn't deny it?

When it showed Feyre being told she was the guest of honor for killing the King of Hybern, and she didn't deny it. When it showed so many other characters giving her credit and her accepting it. We don't see anyone giving Elain the same credit besides Lucien and Rhysand; Azriel never did, even though he was the one who literally handed her the TT. There was never a single scene of Azriel congratulating Elain for it.

If Elriel was endgame, I imagine their first fight wouldn't take long to happen precisely because Azriel treats Elain like she's made of porcelain and she WANTS to be more active, in the ic.

It's really cute when a man is protective of his woman in romance novels, modern, historical, etc... Even in fantasy books, but there comes a point where you just tell him to go to hell.

It's a fantasy story, you WANT TO READ the fantasy part, the dangers, the training, the girl becoming strong. Feyre, for example, has several moments of Rhysand protecting her, and on the same scale, he encourages her to fight, praising her achievements, even facing the Weaver alone.

Now imagine Azriel who simply doesn't let her do anything? The most he did was lend her the TT, and he didn't even congratulate Elain for stabbing the King of Hybern, Lucien did that.

And given that Elain said she's not a child to be fought over, it definitely wouldn't take long for them to argue about it.

Now we have Elucien/Gwynriel. Lucien recognized that it was Elain who killed the King of Hybern. He crossed the battlefield to find her and see if she was alright. He volunteered to look for Vassa alone. Azriel TRAINED Gwyn, watched her with encouragement, encouraged her to cut the ribbon, her siphons and shadows reacted immediately when Cassian mentioned that something might have happened to her in the Blood Rite, a reaction he didn't even have for Nesta, canonically one of the people Azriel likes the most.

I never saw Lucien saying that Elain wouldn't do anything to risk herself, it was Azriel who did that. He doesn't have a "middle ground" with Elain. He doesn't protect her and encourage her to be stronger and more active in the IC, quite the opposite, he simply treats her as if she were made of porcelain, even though Elain herself has already shown that she doesn't like that.

And one of the biggest lies that Elriels tell is that this isn't a problem, that there's absolutely no problem with him just being protective of her.

It really wouldn't be a problem if you weren't hypocritical and didn't make several arts of Azriel training Elain. (Beautiful art, by the way, but you know. One thing or another, right?), Even you want to see Elain being more active, facing dangers, being a good fighter like her sisters, not being this "helpless damsel". And if it depends on Azriel, these arts will never happen.
