i have been bullied (politely asked one time) to draw bloodymary so here. i only like this ship if one or both of them are having a bad time.

Simon would never be pushy, but Grace hasn't told him about the ace thing/doesn't know himself. i imagine him only agreeing out of pity. it's messy!

Simon has his days where his fears and temper gets the better of him, especially regarding the mutation and how he doesn't have control of his own body. He tried to remove all the teeth from his face, but they keep growing back.

Grace does his best to help Simon cope with the changes. Eventually, Simon accepts the teeth are a part of him now. He doesn't like it, but he learns to live with it. On top of growing tired of fighting the mutation, he doesn't want to worry Ryland or put even more burden on him with his problems.

Meanwhile, Grace is relieved Simon isn't hurting himself anymore. Also he thinks the teeth are neat. Weird, but NEAT.

This is my first proper scene matching edit and I'm not even matching scenes 😔 (just voice lines). I'm really proud of it though! I feel like it matches up with a lot of iron lung universe bloodymary fics I've read, where grace is helping simon over comms. And then the ending was meant to be grace proposing to come down and get Simon out of the blood ocean but I got lazy finding lines, sorry </3

sooo prologue is over! im gonna take a break for a bit so i can catch up on the work ive been putting to the wayside. not abandoning this, certainly not, but if i post an update within the next week you should yell at me

from now on the comic is gonna be a mix of bigger arcs like this prologue and more doodles/slice of life bits. just random fun interactions i think of

i do in fact have a timeline semi planned out for the plot of this comic. whenever i lose interest in this (which will likely take a while) ill post the timeline so people know what the story plan was. i always hate when a fan comic or fanfic ends abruptly and i dont know what was gonna happen

soooo Teegarden's Star C is a real planet. It's another "planet named after the star but with a letter next to it". The star it orbits (teegarden's star) is a cooler star. which makes it more red. which makes the planet also red. which was a wonderful coincidence because i picked teegarden's star because of it's placement in the path back to Erid from Tau Ceti (based on a kinda shitty map i found of the phm journey, which may be wrong??). WHY exactly the Hail Mary is in this system at all is to be answered in the story

also apology to anyone who hasn't seen phm or iron lung, that last page must be confusing as hell. anyway it'll only get more movie-lore based so good luck to anyone who hasn't seen/read those stories

should i post this on ao3?? i have an account, but i havent posted anything on there ever. an ask mentioned it might be nice to have the comic compiled into one spot like that. but yeah ive never posted anything on there

simon and ryland on the hail mary, a few weeks after simon was rescued. he’s finally starting to warm up to ryland and they’re having an actual conversation for the first time. at some point, simon goes:

"you know, my kids back on Eden—"

ryland’s jaw drops.

"you have kids???!!!"

"uh." simon looks away. "i mean, sort of. they’re not my kids, but… i don’t know, they always followed me around. i guess i was more like an older brother to them. they said i was cool and stuff." the corner of his lips twitches, like he wants to smile but is trying not to. "but… i don’t know, to me they’ve always been my kids, you know? i guess… i guess i’ve always wanted to be a father."
