please make sure that wherever youâre at in life, you donât treat it like a transitory period. donât waste your college years wishing to already be graduated & have a job. donât waste your single years wishing for someone to be in love with. if/when those things come, they will come in due time and they will be good. but there is nothing like looking back and feeling empty because you wasted literal years ignoring what you had because you were hoping for something better. while itâs important to better yourself and reach for your goals, donât neglect the present because thatâs where you are now and itâs your now that determines your future.Â
Korean Novel Recommendations To Read When Learning Korean [Part Three]
More book recommendations because I read too many!Â
Summer Outside [ë°êč„ì ìŹëŠ] by Kim Ae-ranÂ
A collection of tales by this award winning author. Was such a sad read, but very emotionally evoking and resonant.
Yellow House [ë žëì§] by Park Wan Seo
Stories of a yellow house and old age. I adored this read. Profound reality and beautiful telling. I recommend this the most!
Deep Sorrow [êčì ìŹí] by Shin Kyung-SookÂ
Bit of a heavier read, however, I wanted to test myself when translating. I prefer darker themed stories anyhow, I think that is a given. A young woman is led to suicide, after constantly failing to sustain relationships. A bitter reality story.
A Familiar World [ëŻì”ì ìžì] by Hwang Sok-yongÂ
A place that highlights the lives of people living on Flower Island. Involving one main character and his growth on this wasteland.
Home Sweet Home [ìŠê±°ìŽ ëì ì§] by Gong Ji-young
A tale of a family who can be seen as less than normal. I love quirky books like this!
Hello! Can you recommend Swedish writers that are a must read? Sorry if you already answered this!
hello! :) the biggest must-read for any swede (or person speaking swedish) that wants to call themselves well-read to any degree would beÂ
August Strindberg, who amongst others wrote Röda rummet, TjĂ€nstekvinnans son, Ett drömspel, Fröken Julie, Inferno, En dĂ„res försvarstal, Hemsöborna, I Havsbandet, SkĂ€rkarlsliv, Till Damaskus, Giftas, Ensam, Leka med eldenÂ
though do note that August Stringberg lived between 1849 and 1912 and the swedish language has undergone a lot since then, alors he can be a bit hard to understand if youâre not used to reading older literature
Hjalmar Söderberg, who amongst others wrote Den allvarsamma leken, Dr. Glas, Förvillelser, Martin Bircks ungdom, Historietter, GertrudÂ
Selma Lagerlöf, member of Svenska Akademien and winner of Nobelpriset i litteratur, who amongst others wrote Nils Holgerssons underbara resa genom Sverige, Gösta Berlings saga, Löwensköldska ringen, Charlotte LöwensköldÂ
Viktor Rydberg, who amongst others wrote Singoalla, Den siste athenaren and the famous poem Tomten which is customary to read around Christmas
Carl Jonas Love Almqvist, who amongst others wrote Det gÄr an
Stig Claesson, more famous as Slas, who amongst others wrote Blues för Mr Shelley, Vem Àlskar Yngve Frej?, PÄ palmblad och rosor, Om vÀnskap funnes, NÀsta man till rakning, Efter oss syndafloden, En vandring i solen, Att resa sig upp och gÄ, Flickor
Klas Ăstergren, member of Svenska Akademien, who amongst others has written Gentlemen, Gangsters, Den sista cigaretten
Sara Stridsberg, (up until recently member of Svenska Akademien) who amongst others has written Drömfakulteten and Darling River
Per Lagerkvist, who was a member of Svenska Akademien and winner of Nobelpriset i litteratur, who wrote amongst others DvÀrgen and à ngest
the poet Harry Martinson who was a member of Svenska Akademien and winner of Nobelpriset i litteratur, and wrote amongst others NĂ€sslorna blomma, VĂ€gen till klockrike, AniaraÂ
the poet Tomas Tranströmer who won Nobelpriset i litteratur and who wrote, 17 dikter, Hemligheter pĂ„ vĂ€gen, Den halvfĂ€rdiga himlen, Klanger och spĂ„r, Mörkerseende, Stigar, Ăstersjöar, SanningsbarriĂ€ren, Det vilda torget, För levande och döda, Sorgegondolen, FĂ€ngelse, Den stora gĂ„tan
the poet Gustaf Fröding who amongst others wrote Nya dikter, Guitarr och dragharmonika, StÀnk och flikar
Frans G Bengtsson who wrote among others, Röde Orm
Stig Larsson who has written amongst others, Autisterna, NyÄr, and who worked on Kris together with Horace Engdahl, Tomas NÀsholm and a list of other important names in modern swedish literature
Per WÀstberg who is a member of Svenska Akademien and who has written amongst others Förbjudet omrÄde, Minnets stigar
the (primarily) poet Kristina Lugn who is a member of Svenska Akademien and who has written amongst others om jag inte, Till min man, om han kunde lĂ€sa, Döda honom!, om ni hör ett skottâŠ, Percy Wennerfors, Bekantskap önskas med Ă€ldre bildad herre,  Hundstunden, Hej dĂ„, ha det sĂ„ bra!

if you want to know more about swedish literature (or literature in general) you can read the books of literary scholar Sara Danius, especially Husmoderns död
If you eat animals just be honest with yourself and admit that you canât love animals if youâre paying someone to slit their throats and kill them in violent ways for you to consume their flesh. Just stop being hypocritical. Align your values with your actions, you will feel so much better. Watch Dominion, itâs free on YouTube. Thereâs no reason not to educate yourself on the reality of where your âfoodâ comes from, itâs a good thing. You can make more conscious and informed choices that truly reflect who you are.Â
if u remove the âdâ in brad pitt youre left with âbra pittâ which in swedish means âgood penisâ
my swedish mum wanted to google âbrad pittâ once but instead typed in âbred pittâ which means âwide penisâÂ

how to get better at french
itâs been a while since i made this post, which is basically a how to on learning french (or any language really) on your own. since making this post, iâve taken a year of french in college (my first time ever formally learning french in a classroom) and have progressed quite a bit. despite this, i feel like much of the progress iâve made since is mostly from the work iâve done outside of school. so here are some more things that iâve been doing to progress my french learning:Â
read, read, read: no seriously, continue reading. this is obviously the easiest thing to do, especially as someone learning outside of a classroom. find a book you love in your native language, figure out the french title, then look for a translated version and read it. this is super helpful when getting into more advanced reading because you already know what happens. donât get caught up with every single word you donât know, though. context clues are your friend. i do suggest though, having a french dictionary installed on your phone and still looking up some words. if they seem important or you keep seeing them often, write it down and practice flashcards with it later. not sure where to start? try harry potter.Â
watch stuff: youtube has been amazing for me. a lot of people cite youtube as one of the best places to learn a language, and itâs true. you donât need to be watching how to speak french 101 videos or anything, just find stuff you like, but in french. you might not understand everything at first, and it might be frustrating but try not using subtitles, and even better try subtitles in french if possible. if you canât find anything, you can just look at the popular in france section. i also like damon and jo videos since theyâre typically easier to understand since theyâre americans (but try not to rely so heavily on americans/non-native speakers). besides youtube, you can always watch your favorite movies dubbed in french. try googling â[movie title in french] en streamingâ. i also just watched the french version of the popular teen show skam and thought it was super helpful to pick up on slang. i watched it with the french subtitles and then paused and wrote down thing i heard/read a lot to work on them later.Â
talk to natives: i know itâs super hard and can be stressful but talk to natives!! if you have anxiety (like me) an app like hello talk is perfect. iâve been using it for a couple months again and i forgot how great it is. basically you can friend people who are learning the language you are a native speaker of and then help each other out. this has helped me a lot with becoming more confident in small talk and making mistakes when talking. you can correct the other person so you can learn what youâre doing wrong and correct your mistakes.Â
âItâs 2017. You need motivation? No, what you need is discipline. ITâS TIME TO FOCUS. Force yourself to do things. Force yourself to get up early, make your bed, go get ready, and go. Force yourself to make plans for the day, and follow through with all those plans. Force yourself to get to class early so you can look over the material. Force yourself to pay attention in class and turn off your phone or at least put it on silent. Stop texting your friends and going on Instagram in class. You are wasting your time, so why even bother going to class if your are going to be distracted? Be selfish. Stop giving your time to people that do not matter. YOUR TIME IS SO SO PRECIOUS. STOP WASTING IT! This is the most important thing that you can do right now, take care of you and your education. Stop being distracted by the world and itâs never ending problems. This is the time that you need to put toward yourself because you are the greatest investment of your life. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. EVERYDAY is a chance to wake up and give your 150%. EXHAUST yourself. That is the only way to give your all. At the end of the day, you should be exhausted from working so much, from reading so much, from exercising so much. Donât go home because you are tired. Do whatever you need to get done and donât come home until itâs all done. Stay late at the library. You feel tired? Good. That is how you know you are giving it your best. Go to the gym, and give your work out your all. When you go home, you should feel like you are drained. You should feel like you have nothing left to give because you gave it your all. Because then, you can be proud of yourself and everything you have achieved. Giving it your all is what matters. Give your all every single day. Discipline your mind and your body and you will become successful. You fall back one day? That is O.K., try the next day. You are human, so accept your mistakes. However, love yourself enough to know that you will never give up working on yourself and your dreams. THIS IS IT. THIS IS YOUR LIFE. Right now, no matter what circumstances we are all in, is what matters. Take advantage of today. Write down your dreams and force yourself to work toward them, one day at a time. ITâS TIME TO FOCUS. THIS is your year. This is your life. One day at a time baby. One day at a time. Go ahead and donât stop.â

fun bilingual things
- you know the word in second language but not first - your notes sometimes are in both languages at once. some words are quicker to write than their equivalents - phone autocorrects to wrong language - the words that are the same but slightly different in your two languages are always spelled the wrong way. no matter what. - certain memories only available in one language - music genres?? u like maybe alternative and pop music in your first language but like rap and musical theatre in your second - u know what verb tenses are called in your second language but not in your first - saying bullshit like âclose the lights pleaseâ because itâs idiomatically correct but not in english
Itâs just so sad to be setting up this new bedroom concept since in two months and a half I will be leaving. đą

My tips:
This Masterpost is especially for beginners;Â
Follow the sequence in Grammar above, itâs very important!
Take notes;
Never memorize the words (vocabulary) alone, memorize with some situations where you can include them. Will be more easy to remember after, right?
Practice writing, reading and listening.
Watch movies and listen to Brazilian Music. (Iâll make a post with tips of movies and music for you, relax!!)
Practice every single day any way! Could be on websites or making online Brazilians friends.
The most important part: never give up.
Any questions just send me a message.
