just saw a tiktok (sorry) saying its gonna be pirate romance summer over clips of will/elizabeth and some other straight couple and then. eleanor/vane. with the caption "watch black sails". and like whatever gets ppl watching but i cant help and imagine whatever straight girlies turning on black sails expecting to see vane be some hopeless romantic to eleanors self insert and instead seeing them immediately punch each other followed by max/eleanor extended lesbian sex scene. pirate romance summer indeed

imagine you're an actor on black sails. you're just some random dude from australia or america doing shitty acting jobs (or royalty/maggie smiths son). then you get a part in this big pirate show. you get dumped in south africa and you're kind of just stuck there for four years. you spend it obsessively rehearsing and delivering the best performances of any of your lives in arguably one of the craziest stories ever told. then afterwards you go back to america or australia or england and for the rest of your life play side characters in like. The Flash and Umbrella Academy. or narrate pirate smut audiobooks. Crazy

ok the main thing is the storytelling aspect and s310. in a post-apocalypse world myths and rumours and hearsay ascend into law very quickly as all the tools &  things we're used to using to verify information are suddenly ripped away. no more googling to check no more calling ahead no more research. all you have is stories. the old guy you met on the side of the road said there was gas still at the gas station, so there must be. the boy you met told you he's never killed anyone and how would you check? the lady with the broken glasses tells everyone not to go around the bend so no one does. the man with the limp said it was safe up ahead and you'll have to believe his story or go back. you stake your life on stories. someone who can tell stories that seem to come true is god. someone who can tell stories with good endings that seem to come true is even better.

when you hear the story about the ten-foot-tall one-legged man who decapitates people with a metal shoe, your skeptical self of course thinks it's ridiculous. but the real question is is it more ridiculous than the dead coming back to life? the storytellers shall inherit the earth. 

silver in my head in this universe was displaced from his home country in some way or shape or form when he was very young. when the apocalypse hits perhaps a family member of his or someone he loves decides to stay behind and die because leaving home during the original displacement was too devastating. this time they die in their own home. maybe the loved one who stays behind does so in part because cell towers are down and only landlines still work. they still have loved ones in the original home country and they want to stay at home trying to call back one last time before the zombies reach their neighbourhood. silver flees.

or maybe silver is displaced alone when he is very young. part of how he rises to power among people is because he has actual practical experience with displacement. when the apocalypse originally hits and everyone is fleeing their homes, it's not his first rodeo. he's the only one who knew to bring not just canned food, but also a can opener. maybe he had to care for someone through part of his original displacement and that plays into his ability to become "quartermaster," among those evacuating to get away from the zombies. he knows how to manipulate people going through their first evacuation. but of course it ends up being read as genuine care.

maybe when the main goal of apocalypse flint threatens to lead to possible displacement again that sets off the betrayal. or maybe flint wants to stay and fight and defend some outpost instead of evacuating but silver has resigned himself that no home ever lasts and there will always be evacuation and displacement. maybe he ends up dooming madi's community, which has actually succeeded in forming a strong, well-guarded resilient community, to dispersing and becoming nomadic, moving place to place trying to set up again before they're chased out.

also in my modern post apocalypse they run out of weapons/ammo before the big s310 battle and so they raid a historical site and use the old muskets like they do in black sails 310. bc that would be fun 😁

This is how they survive. You must know this. You're too smart not to know this. They paint the world full of shadows and then tell their children to stay close to the light. Their light. Their reasons, their judgments. Because in the darkness, there be dragons. But it isn't true. We can prove that it isn't true. In the dark, there is discovery. There is... possibility. There is freedom in the dark once someone has illuminated it. And who has been so close to doing it as we are right now?

Did the crew notice that Flint kept dedicating actual time and effort into maintaining his physical appearance under continued threat of gruesome and terrible demise. Everyone is splayed out on deck decaying beneath the pitiless sun raving about how the lord has abandoned them. Silver is gutting eels and catching on to pathetic fallacy through the power of desiccation and driving his mountain of a friend out of his goddamn mind about it. They are rotting away and they look like it. Yet their grief-riddled bloodthirsty ex-navy ultra-despotic mass-murdering gayass captain that they really fucking hate is still dressing head to toe in black and holing up in his gloomy fucking quarters to shave his own head and groom his beard to picture perfection. Suicidally depressed but won't get caught dead looking sloppy

A while ago one of those posts went by that was like “the leads of the previous show you watched are now in the show you are currently watching. how do they handle it?” and I was like ok the heated rivalry boys in black sails would just. Die. They’d just die. RIP.

But the more I think about it the more I think the opposite is where the comedy is.
