Perhaps if you were a more respectable choice, she wouldn’t have gone looking elsewhere. [Margaret smiled, as if she had just come up with a clever comeback]

Wine? [he frowns but doesn’t push it further - because at least she’s ordered something alcoholic. Instead, he settles for teasing, raising his eyebrows and waggling them slightly] So he is satisfying you then?

[Margaret smiles as the bartender sets to glasses before them, taking a very modest sip of her own] Lovely. [she turned to Vincent with a sharp look upon his quip she found less than amusing] And they wonder why you are still unbetrothed.

Did Rabastan come with you tonight?

No, no, but I’m not surprised. He tends to pick and choose his own occasions. Most of them involve the company of Vincent or Vanity.

[Vincent was late. Vincent was always late, but that wasn’t the reason. It had everything to do with a general hesitancy to be anywhere around Margaret, but it had been suggested to him that his ability to spend time with Rabastan in the future might be helped by being a little nicer to her now. Something that was made more difficult by her picking at him before he had even had a chance to sit down. He immediately looked around for someone to bring him a drink] Five minutes isn’t late. Have you been waiting long?

Of course I have. [She stated it matter-of-factly, straightening up in her chair] I am never late to anything. It is considered rude. I have already ordered us glasses of wine, but I requested for the bartender to wait until your arrival. I couldn’t have it looking like I was solo drinking, now could I? That would simply be sad and who knows the rumors it could start about the relationship between Rabastan and I. People might get the wrong impression that I am unsatisfied.

[Margaret was less than sure why she had agreed to meet Vincent for a glass of wine. Part of her had decided that it was good insight into the mind of Rabastan. Actually, she hoped it wasn’t. If Rabastan was like Vincent, Margaret was not sure that the marriage would work for long. Although Vincent had his...amusing qualities, Margaret felt that he was of too little maturity to keep her interest. Regardless, if he offered any insight into how to please her fiance, she would call this meeting a success.] You’re five minutes late.

[Margaret scowled, but let out a breath and recomposed her face into something more genial] Emma, dear, I would not quite use the term smart. Your antics were ones I would have expected of fifth years. That is quite fine, however. Some people do feel like their school years are their best years. If you wish to relive them, it is not my duty to stop you. I will, however, ask that you do run plans by me, or by Hope at the very least. I will do you the same courtesy, as I am a big girl who does not seek revenge on those who have wronged me.
