Statue of Horemheb and Horus

In this nearly life-size statue made of white limestone, Horemheb is seated on the right side of Horus, who places his right arm around the king’s waist. The god’s left hand is holding the sign of life. The two figures greatly resemble each other.

Both have bare upper bodies and wear the shendyt kilt and the Pschent or double crown in ancient Egypt. The king is also wearing the striped royal nemes headdress and a false divine beard. On first inspection, the sculpture appears to be in a perfect state of preservation, but this is deceptive.

AN EGYPTIAN SCHIST ISIS AND HORUS LATE PERIOD, 664-332 B.C. 7 5/8 in. (19.3 cm.) high.

A painted pottery vase in the form of a kneeling woman, holding a child about to nurse in her lap. It dates to the 18th Dynasty (circa 1550-1295 BCE).

The small size of the piece (only 12.7 centimeters in height) and its narrow mouth suggest that it was meant to contain some precious, perishable substance such as a cosmetic or medicine.

The subject of this work, so evocative of the goddess Isis and her divine son Horus, may have held a reassuring message in any of a number of contexts, funerary or otherwise.

This delightful piece (FGA-ARCH-EG-0634) is now in the Fondation Gandur pour l'Art, Geneva, Switzerland.

Ms. Codex 1566 is a tiny book of hours, use of Metz. It is bound in modern velvet, and features a miniature of the Virgin Mary nursing the baby Jesus - iconography specific to artwork made in Metz (dated between 1375 and 1399)

Pendant in the shape of a female figurine, standing, carrying a child on his chest. She is dressed in a flared and openwork long dress, belted at the waist. His head, with a long neck, is framed by two strands and his shoulders are equipped with a ring holding one, a pendant in the shape of a sting, the second has now disappeared. The fact that Amun, the king of gods, is depicted here under the protection of Hathor, is very surprising. Traditionally this is the place for the king. And indeed, the first version showed king Thutmose III, the vice-king of Hatshepsut. As the reliefs were destroyed massively after Hatshepsut's death, Ramses II had them renovated. Obviously the craftsmen doing this job misunderstood the scene and transformed a king into Amon.
