Constellations and Star Signs
âTis a gift for @asylia-5911. I dragged her into the fandom and she dragged me into logince.Â
âDo you know any constellations?â Roman asked, still admiring the sky.Â
âI learned some in school, but I canât remember them.âÂ
âLetâs make some up.â Logan said, beginning to walk closer to the ledge.Â
Content/Warnings: the walking dead game season 4 spoilers, zombies, mentions of weapons, mentions of knives, mentions of death, mentions of food, swearing, and kissing.Â

âSo⌠weâre checking the walls?â Roman asked, stepping into the destroyed bell-tower.
âYup. From up there. Thatâs the best view.â Logan said, beginning the trek up the stairs. Roman stared up to the top of the building, a little concerned. The building seemed to be in ruin, how did they know the stairs were sturdy? âYou ready for a climb?â Logan asked, a smirk gracing his lips.
Roman didnât reply, still checking out the structure. Logan continued to walk up the stairs. Roman followed after him, and found that there was a large part of the stairs missing. Logan had already begun to climb the wall, however.
âLooks a little dangerous.â Roman commented, watching as Loganâs foot slipped just enough that he couldâve fallen.
âWhatâs more dangerous than walkers? Or that death trap you called a car?â Logan retorted, chancing a glance down at the other boy.
âOkay, fair.â Roman mumbled, reaching up to grab one of the beams that lined the wall.
âCâmon, youâre not chicken, right?â Logan teased, already much further up than Roman.
âNo.â Roman replied, not giving Logan the satisfaction of the dramatic reaction heâd surely expected.
âGod, now Iâm thinking about chicken nuggets.â Logan remarked, his tone wistful. âDo you remember those?â
Roman thought for a second, before simply saying ânot really.â He didnât remember much from before the outbreak. He was only seven after all.
âI do. We always got them on Sundays. There was never time for grandma to cook between church and bible study, so, fast food.â Logan explained. âDamn, Iâd give an eyeball for a chicken nugget right now.â He said, leaping from one side of the tower to the other.
Roman did the same, and walked up the last bit of the stairs to the top.
Logan already leaned against the fence, staring out at the courtyard of the school, most definitely examining their preparations.
âBarbed wire, traps, weapons. Itâs everything we planned for.â Roman remarked, joining Logan in his survey.
âYou made it happen. We couldnât have done it without you.â Logan praised, offering a small smile. Roman smiled back.
Turning from the fence and wandering seemingly aimlessly, Logan asked âYouâve got lookout duty tonight, right?â
âYep, me and Patton.â Roman said, turning to look at Logan.
âDo you have time to hangout first?â He mumbled warily.
âSure.â Roman replied. Logan lead them to a walkway-looking part of the tower. It was covered in ivy and the night sky was mesmerizing. âWow⌠Beautiful.â
âSometimes I need the quiet, just to get away for awhile.â Logan said, gazing out at the sky. âRoman?â
âI know you came back for medicine, for Patton, but after that you couldâve just left. Avoided all the bullshit with the raiders. Why didnât you? Sorry, I know that puts you on the spot. You donât have to answer⌠Weâve all got our reasons.â
âWhy would I go anywhere else, if youâre here?â Roman asked, smiling at Logan.
Logan looked a bit shocked at that answer, but recovered quickly. âIâm glad.â
âDo you know any constellations?â Roman asked, still admiring the sky.
âI learned some in school, but I canât remember them.â
âLetâs make some up.â Logan said, beginning to walk closer to the ledge. âCome over here. You can sit down without falling to your death.â The two sat down as Logan continued speaking. âIf I remember right, everyoneâs born under a special sign, right? It determines your personality.â
âThatâs astrology, not astronomy.â Â Roman corrected.
âWhatever, letâs just make up our own. Rules, signs, what it says about you. Itâs not like anyone remembers the old way.â Logan spoke quickly, trying to hide his embarrassment. âOkay, letâs do it. There! See? Itâs a fish.â
Roman took a second to find it before nodding to himself. âNow it needs a personality.â
âBright, attractive, good with other people. Always moving, tons of energy. Sound like anyone we know?â
âYeah, that sounds like you.â
Logan laughed. âWerenât you listening? I said good with other people.â
âWellâŚâ Roman said, leaning closer to Logan. âMaybe not that part.â
âIâll try to take the rest as a compliment.â He whispered, beginning to search the sky again. âI spy with my eye⌠A knife. See it?â
âRight there, above your head.â
âYeah, theyâre all above my head.â Roman retorted, though he located it rather quickly.
âThis oneâs easy. Smart, clean, vicious, dependable. Someone you want with you in a fight. Doesnât take crap from anyone. Gets shit done.â Logan listed off the personality happily.
âThatâs mine, definitely.â Roman claimed happily, looking to Logan to see if he agreed.
âYeah, thatâs a good one for you.â Logan mumbled, avoiding Romanâs gaze. âWish everyone wouldâve seen all that sooner.â He trailed off, and the two sat in silence for just a moment. âOkay, one more time⌠I found a bird.â
âLike, a real bird?â Roman asked.
âNo, a star bird. Right there.â Logan clarified, pointing to it.
âFound it.â Roman confirmed.
âA bird is free. It could go anywhere it wanted to. Up and up and up, and never come back. Go south, east, west, doesnât matter. You could fly straight into a sunset and see where it ends.â
âYou wish it was you, donât you?â
âSometimes. When it all feels so heavy down here⌠I canât help but wonder what itâd be like to be weightless.â He jumped back a bit in sudden shock. âSorry, I didnât mean to just⌠Talk so much. Itâs just⌠Iâve watched people leave before. Family, friends. They never come back⌠But you did. And, now, I canât imagine what it would be like if you werenât here.â Roman stared at Logan in shock for a second. âUm, shit, that sounds so much dumber when I say it out loud.â
âI think⌠I mean, I hope... weâre more than friends.â Loganâs eyes widened in shock. âAnd, I wantâŚâ Roman paused, then leaned forward and kissed Logan. He pulled away seconds later, and the two boys were both wide-eyed.
âHoly shit.â Logan whispered.
âThatâs romantic.â Roman chuckled.
âI mean, holy shit.â Logan lifted his hand and put it on top of Romanâs, glancing at the tattoo of Pattonâs name on the other boyâs hand.
âLo? Virge? You out here?â Remy called.
âShit-sticks.â Logan muttered. âProbably time for your lookout shift. Ready?â
âYeah.â Roman mumbled, standing up. The two climbed down the tower in silence.
