the thing about taylor swift is. there's a reason that the people who hate her will always hate her music, no matter what kind of music she makes, no matter how much they would like it if it was made by a different artist. it's the refusal to approach the work sympathetically. and i don't mean sympathetically like i expect people to love her and feel sorry for her etc just to listen to an album, i mean it like being able to sit in her existence as a human person with interiority. to meet the work on its own terms. people come out of her albums with nothing but confirmation bias because they refuse to engage with her perspective for even an hour.
