Rest in peace, Sir Eddie Garcia. In 2005, I was fortunate enough to work with this cinema legend for my film school thesis film called DEXTER CALLIOPE AND THE ADARNA BIRD. He played Lolo Tiburcio, our storyteller, in a scene with Conrad Javier, the young Dexter. We shot on 16mm film, and Sir Eddie was a RIOT onset. He knew we were all young filmmakers all starting out (cinematography by @odysseyflores , production design by @trinkalat , styling by @christina_dy , assisted directed by @issalitton , edited by Maui Mauricio, music by @mikeyamistoso and @itchyjazz , sound design by Mark Laccay and Erwin Romulo, written by @wincyaquinoong , PA @mihkvergara , Art Dept @neurotic.ninja Cris Silva) and he used this onset opportunity to test/tease us about continuity, make us laugh, and keep us on our toes. The creation of his character was so important for him -- he requested for a face towel and a Beer na Beer (quite a rare local beer that our PAs had to scour for) that his character would be drinking in the middle of the day. He also used his own reading glasses and slippers. He was the first huge actor I ever worked with, and I am grateful that he gave me a chance. Does it have to take the accidental onset death of one of our greatest actors in the history of our cinema, a man still working in the industry at the AGE OF 90, to finally practice SAFETY in our film and TV productions? I second the motion of what cinematographer Carlo Mendoza said, please let's respect the lives of every person who works in the Philippine entertainment industry, have manageable and humane working hours, and make sure our sets and stunts are safe. https://www.instagram.com/p/By85KF3HwI6/?igshid=1m2drminsj02c
