I’M BACK!
Finals are over, and Christmas is here! I’ll be on early tomorrow morning. Like this for a starter!

Marie looked up-to tired to show any signs of surprise or shock to who is speaking. It was one of the gorgon sisters (as telltale signs of the rope like strands of hair and the apparent ‘hiss’ in the voice), but of which one she was not sure. Though, being a resident of the castle currently, Marie has never made a move to interact with the other beings (besides her husband and son) of the living fortress. She preferred it that way.
“I’m-I’m fine…” She assured gently as she tried to take another step.
Euryale paused, hesitant, her shoulder twitching and causing the purple skirts of her moth-eaten dress to swish across her knees. The Master was asleep, the sun having risen into the sky, and he had made it very clear that his Lady was to be respected and obeyed and that all assistance were to be provided for her.
Then again, the words, ‘I’m fine,’ was not a command forbidding Euryale to help. She remembered sickness and starvation beneath the ruins of Agharta, of taking care of her elder sisters and being looked after in turn. How could she try to do any less for the Lady?
“Lady of Lightssss… Tea? I can make ….ssss… warm tea? Cookiessss?”
The kind Toy Maker had taught her, after all. And to a creature that was both girl and serpent, warmth was a catch-all cure.
Marie was silent for a moment. It would appear this...Person genuinely wanted to be some of assistance to her. Giving another glance around the room, she returned her attention to the...Girl before her, “Tea, would be lovely thank you.” She gave a sweet, tired, smile as she replied.
Marie still wasn't to sure about the young gorgon, but perhaps this one was different?
A night spent coughing has made Marie's voice course and shy of a whisper. Her head thrummed with every movement she made, Marie prayed that what ever illness as taken her would leave soon, she wished not for her husband to worry.
(( Peanut gallery says haha fat chance of marshmallow dragon not worrying what dreamworld are you from? *is bricked* ))
“Sss… Missss? Do you require assssisssstance?”
The acrid scent of illness is a distinct one, and rare among the hardier denizens of the Castle. Euryale was one to wander, and as one of the more reasonable and harmless of the Castle’s residents was less impeded by Dracul’s (and by extension, the Castle’s) protective streak.
And so, rather than the Lord of the Castle, it was the youngest of the gorgons that came across the figure of the Prince’s wife, looking pallid and rough around the edges.

Dark times all around but there are still people out there who love you
Do not hurt yourself, do not hurt others, get help, talk to someone, anyone. Humanity has survived before and we can do it now if we all just support each other. My country and my people let me down and endangered my life but there’s nothing I or anyone else can do about that so let’s try to spread the love that is so clearly lacking.

I’m not going to be here for a while....I...I can’t. I’m...I don’t know when I’ll be back. This election....I don’t think I’ll be able to afford going to Canada...I..I just don’t know.

So it was as she feared, her husband’s sudden loss of voice was no accident. This was work of those malicious grayfaces. Marie let out another heavy sigh, will they ever know peace from those mysterious beings? However, her mood was lightened was she watched Gabriel struggle to untangle himself from the decrepit tapestry. Even if he did not mean to, the other always found a way to lighten her mood.
“Do you know how long this…Affliction will last?”
He frowned. How to communicate this one? His frown deepened as his attempt to hum in thought resulted in further silence.
He shrugged, holding up one finger. “… !!! … …..! …?” Perhaps one night, perhaps longer, he didn’t know. It had happened quite suddenly.
“One day?” She asked with distress starting to become evident in her voice. Marie calmed herself by taking a deep breath, she had to stay calm. For Gabriel’s sake.
Approaching the other once more, Marie laid a gentle hand on her husbands cheek-a gesture of love and compassion that they have always shared together.
“If there is anything that I can do, let me know in anyway you can.”

Maire closed her eyes and sighed, already having a good idea as to how her dear partner lost his voice.
“Gabriel, how perchance did you lose you voice?” She asked, folding her hands in front neatly. Blue-gray eyes peering into those of her husbands-patiently waiting for the latter to answer.
His eyebrow twitched. He was expected to answer that, how, exactly?
He cast his eyes around the room, before spying a particularly old tapestry, greyed with dust and age. With purpose, he strode over to the grey cloth and wrapped the end of his over his head and shoulders. Mystery grey face.
It was only after untangling himself from the dusty cloth and sneezing - silently - that the thought of writing things down occurred to him.

Marie watched as her husband pointed to his throat, and then to his mouth. Was it possible that something was wrong with his throat?
Tilting her head, Marie dawdled towards the vampire. “Is there something wrong with your voice?” She asked.
The vampire smiled, nodding. Marie’s perception was excellent.
“… …. …..” He tried to speak to affirm that she was correct in that his voice had gone entirely quiet, but as before, no sound came out. “ …. ….. …….” He settled for mouthing a very obvious - if silent - “I love you.”
"Gabriel? What's wrong?"
He points at his throat, then at his mouth, shutting it with an audible snap. There’s a pout surly expression on his face, as he gestures wildly for a minute, then shrugs.
“…!”
The power of speech is gone from him.
Marie watched as her husband pointed to his throat, and then to his mouth. Was it possible that something was wrong with his throat?

Hey friends, it’s Meg!
Back for another TUTOR TUESDAY! Today we take a look at feet and how they work! I’m always looking for recommendations, so if you have anything you’d like help with feel free to send it in here or on my personal blog. Keep practicing, have fun, and I’ll see you next Tuesday!
"..." Sometimes, words aren't needed to show how you feel. And the small smile and proffered cluster of fall flowers - amaryllis, dahlias, and chrysanthemums - would serve to express the gentleness and appreciation Dracul has for Marie in ways his own words fail. (Gabriel was never stellar when it came to things like this - luckily Euryale's interest in plants proved helpful.) "How are you holding up?"
Maire was sitting at a small table, tucked away in one of the many corners of the great library. It had been days since her husband’s climatic eternal struggle, he had been the victor- much to the relief to Maire. But, it still had taken a great toll on everyone involved. Thus, Marie had taken it upon herself to seek out a quite refuge, and much needed space.
Movement caught her eye, causing her to look up. It was Gabriel, or, better known as Dracul now, standing there with the smallest of smiles upon his face. The bouquet of fresh autumn flowers immediately caught her attention.
“I am well,” she gave a smile of her own, “but what are those for?” She asked, motioning to bouquet, already having a sneaking suspicion as to whom they are for.
Trying to draw buildings
yo here’s a useful tip from your fellow art ho cynellis… use google sketchup to create a model of the room/building/town you’re trying to draw… then take a screenshot & use it as a reference! It’s simple & fun!
Sketchup is incredibly helpful. I can’t recommend it enough.
There’s a 3D model warehouse where you can download all kinds of stuff so you don’t have to build everything from scratch.
reblog to save a life
This is an incomplete tutorial, and it drives me crazy every time I see it come around.
We live in a pretty great digital age and we have access to a ton of amazing tools that artists in past generations couldn’t even dream of, but a lot of people look at a cool trick and only learn half of the process of using it.
Here’s the missing part of this tutorial:
How do you populate your backgrounds?
Well, here’s the answer:
If the focus is the environment, you must show a person in relation to that environment.
The examples above are great because they show how to use the software itself, but each one just kind of “plops” the character in front of their finished product with no regard of the person’s relation to their environment.
How do you fix this?
Well, here’s the simplest solution:
This is a popular trick used by professional storyboard and comic artists alike when they’re quickly planning compositions. It’s simple and it requires you to do some planning before you sit down to crank out that polished, final version of your work, but it will be the difference between a background and an environment.
From Blacksad (artist: Juanjo Guarnido)
From Hellboy (Mike Mignola)
Even if your draftsmanship isn’t that great (like mine), people can be more immersed in the story you tell if you just make it feel like there is a world that exists completely separate from the one in which they currently reside – not just making a backdrop the characters stand in front of.
Your creations live in a unique world, and it is as much a character as any other member of the cast. Make it as believable as they are.
Great comments and tutorials!
I’m a 3d artist and have been exploring the possibilities of using 3d as reference for 2d poses. I want to add a couple of tips and things!
Sketchup is very useful for environment references, and I assume it’s reasonably easy to learn. If you’re interested in going above and beyond, I highly recommend learning a proper 3d modeling program to help with art, especially because you can very easily populate a scene or location with characters!
Using 3ds Max I can pretty quickly construct an environment for reference. But going beyond that, I can also pose a pretty simple ‘CAT’ armature (known in 3d as a rig) straight into the scene, which can be totally customized, from various limbs, tails, wings, whatever, to proportions, and also can be modeled onto and expanded upon (for an example, you could 3d sculpt a head reference for your character and then attach it to the CAT rig, so you have a reference for complex face angles!)
The armature can also be posed incredibly easily. I know programs exist for stuff like this - Manga Studio, Design Doll - but posing characters in these programs is always an exercise in frustration and very fiddly imo. A simple 3d rig is impossibly easy to pose.
By creating an environment and dropping my character rig into it, I have an excellent point of reference when it comes to drawing the scene!
Not only that, but I can also view the scene from whatever angle I could ever want or need, including the character and their pose/position relative to the environment.
We can even quickly and easily expand this scene to include more characters!
Proper 3d modeling software is immensely powerful, and if you wanted to, you could model a complex environment that occurs regularly in your comic or illustration work (say, a castle interior, or an outdoor forest environment) and populate the scene with as many perspective-grounded characters as you need!
