Jerusalem sketches. Hope to return there someday.
During my Taglit trip in Israel this August I’ve been hugely impressed by eastern culture. After four nights of listening oriental music I kind of started to appreciate it) This guy was just an amazing percussionist. I’ve never seen anyone playing like him. So I made a picture of him. And by the way his name is Yoni Sharon. You can watch him playing on Youtube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16s-8J5OHGo&feature=youtu.be
This is a page I did last Sunday and it recounts the events of that day. So I picked some flowers, I ate some homemade cookies and I took an amazing bath with Lush special oil! And this last one inspired me to go and do this illustration. I’m not totally satisfied with how it looks. I like the drawings, but the lettering and text itself is a bit confusing. I wanted it to be a girly page, though it doesn’t quite work that way… Well, I’ll try next time to do a better page;)
This one I did after watching King Arthur: Legend of the Sword by Guy Ritchie. I didn’t expected much from this movie on my way to the cinema but I was so impressed with this cool combination of medieval legend and gangster style of Guy Ritchie!! I was truly entertained! And the soundtrack just blew my mind)
The page heading is Scotland, though I’m not sure how much Scottish is this guy’s costume and my choice of font) I also googled some Scottish symbols: bagpipes, claimore - two-handed medieval sword and luckenbooth - symbol of love.
Couple of weeks ago I had a wonderful weekend in Helsinki with my boyfriend. Certainly I decided to take my art supplies with me. Unfortunately I couldn’t decide what to leave behind, so I took all I had;) For my defence I can say I tried to use all of them) But a black thin liner and my awesome Winsor&Newton sketchers’ pocket box are my favourites. One day we spent on the local beach and I did this small drawing of a summer cafe. Once again I was amazed with Scandinavian architecture and their excellent taste. The evening we spent at the city centre quay. In front of us was this cute red boat with a restaurant on board, I loved it and I drew it!) There are so many beautiful vessels in Helsinki port! Of all sizes, styles and materials! There are boats more than hundred years old! I think the only hundred years old ship in St. Petersburg I’ve ever seen was сruiser Aurora:)
This summer I started an illustrated diary! I was hugely inspired by a book suggested by my dear colleague and friend Ellen. It’s called The Creative License: Giving Yourself Permission to Be the Artist You Truly Are written (and drawn;)) by Danny Gregory. It gave me a great creative impulse, broke invisible barriers and released me from my fears of possible failure.
This page was the first I did after starting this book) Mr Gregory writes a lot about drawing your food, so I bought some cakes from one of the best pastry-shops of St. Petersburg called Bushe, brought it home and after an hour and a half Voi la! Yeah, and I also put some quotations from the book. The only thing - I did it in Russian) I was pretty pleased with it and I decided also to start filling my tumblr page. Hope you’ll enjoy it!
Some quick sketches from our weekly sessions at work. Maybe someday I’ll draw faces too :)
