"Sentinel," an illustration commissioned earlier this year by Gallo Winery- pen and ink with digital coloring. This piece depicts Cerberus, the three-headed guard dog of the underworld according to Greek mythology. I spent a good part of my childhood reading textbooks about mythology, entranced by the symbology, the rituals, and the magic. My imagination fed on those ancient stories and they bled into my being, becoming part of my paradigm and perception. It was a good challenge to try to imbue this illustration with the sort of deep, magical pulse that I've always garnered from the mythic and mystical. Placing the final pieces on this paper sculpture back in 2014. This piece, titled "River of Life," is the only paper sculpture I've ever made, but that's about to change. I've been invited to participate in a really exciting group show called Suggestivism at Spoke Art in San Fransisco this September, and my contribution will be a fantastical paper sculpture brimming with scales, feathers, flowers, and filigree. Yesterday. Trying to get to Colorado but stuck in Arizona for hours in the desert heat behind a terrible fatal traffic accident caused by an explosion. I tried to make the best of it, focusing on gratitude for the life and safety of me and my canine copilot. Any day could be our last- remember to be kind and don't hold back on love.
