Mark Highfield on his wedding day.Â
Better Than Love || Marksten
Kristen still couldnât believe that she would actually get married today. All her life she had been sure that love would do nothing but hurt her. That her life would never stop being anything else but painful. Maybe she was just a extremely sensitive teenager but none the less, she knew what love could do. She knew that love could drive people crazy and to the point where theyâd do anything to make you stay. But Mark Highfield had shown her another kind of love. He had shown her the beauty and the kindness and how it was possible to be happy just if youâd look at the small, pretty things in life. Of course, Kristen was still far away from being okay, but that didnât stop her from loving Mark or from knowing for sure who sheâd spend the rest of her life with. Their relationship was very far from being easy or simple, but it was strong and in the end those would be the relationships thatâd survive. At least thatâs what Kristen thought.
âSunshine? Are you awake?â, Kristen whispered on the morning of her wedding day and cuddled a bit closer to her best friend who only nodded with her eyes closed. âGuess what?â, Kristen smiled, âIâm getting married today.â Vanity only nodded again, still with her eyes closed. âYou know?â, Kristen said and jumped out of the bed, âI will have some great sex tonight. And I will get great presents and Iâm allowed to answer the question if I am pregnant at least one hundred times today. And I will just reply with a do I look fat and then I will fake cry and then Mark will punch these people cause they made me cry and-â Kristen felt a pillow hitting her head and laughed as she looked over to a Vanity who didnât seem too excited about the fact that Kristen kept talking about random stuff. Obviously, that has been her plan in the first place. âNow get up, Sunshine, you need to hide my face behind make up. God, I am only eighteen, how do people do that when theyâre thirty? They need a ton.â
After Vanity was done with Kristenâs make up, the girls checked again if they hadnât forget anything. Every little detail was important, if it meant that the guest list was complete or when Princess had to bring the cake. A wide smile appeared on her lips as she saw Markâs text, before she replied âI canât wait to see you, darling. And I wonât spoil the message with some naughty comment. I love you. Thanks for sticking around. -Princess Deer/Soon to be Mrs. Highfield.â The smile didnât disapper as she looked at herself in the mirror, she was pretty, still not worth him, but pretty. As she heard a knock on the door and suddenly felt Jojoâs arms around her, Kris slowly started to realize that this was it. No more clubs with strangers who bought her drinks so sheâd make out with them- no more guys whoâd use her all up until theyâd break her- no more lonliness and self hatred at night that never got her anywhere- this was it. Mark Highfield had changed it all and as Kristen looked on the ring of her finger she couldnât help but wonder if thereâd be a luckier person out there. Probably not. âOkay ladies, help me to put on that dress, itâs getting late and I canât have my man wait for longer than the usual fifteen minutes.â
Mark smiled brightly at her text as he slid his phone in his pocket and fixed his tie. He smoothed his hair down and smirked as he looked at himself in the mirror. "Not too bad Highfield, not too bad at all." He took in a deep breath as he looked around his apartment, smiling at David and Leon who were sitting in the living room. "This is it...you're finally marrying the girl of your dreams." The thought made him smile even wider. Kristen Snoot was everything he could dream of and more. And in an hour or so he'd be married to her and off to live the future he thought he never had.Â
Walking out of his bedroom, he grabbed his things and pointed at the door. "Let's go boys. I've got a girl to marry." He smiled as he ushered them out the door and followed them down to the limo that was waiting. Once inside, they all popped open a beer and had a toast. He was full of happiness as they reached the venue for the wedding. Brushing himself up, he excited the car and laughed as he was wrapped up into a hug by his parents. "Oh honey you look so handsome!" He kissed his mothers cheek and patted his fathers shoulder as he thanked them and made small talk. "This is going to be great guys. And it makes me so happy you get to be here."Â
As the guests came in, Mark sat in a chair by a small dressing room. His foot tapped against the carpet nervously as he took out his phone and looked through his pictures of Kristen. When he saw Vanity at the end of the hall, his heart jumped at the thought of Kristen being behind the door in her wedding dress. He was about to go knocking on the door when he was stopped by Leon who gave him a funny look before pushing him inside the wedding hall. His hands shook slightly as he stood at the alter, licking his lips nervously as the music began to play and he turned to wait for his soon to be wife come down the aisle.Â
