Any sensible man would. Motta, that name rings a bell. Shame they couldn’t join us. How has Devereux been treating you?

Mark set his drink down, allowing the scotch to sit on his tongue for a moment before swallowing it down. It was a conversation he’d been somewhat anticipating but also hoping they wouldn’t get to. “It seemed as though our partners had it under control.” He said, instead of the possibility that a spring break spent enjoying himself or even scoping potential scene partners and eventual claim partnerships benefitted him as well. Mark didn’t have interest in arguing with his father, he knew better. So he gave a nod, asserting his understanding. “But you’re right, I should have ensured I was on the staff there overseeing the venture. I got… caught up.” 

"That so?” Mark pondered with a raised eyebrow, swirling his whiskey in his glass to keep the flavor from settling. His gaze never once left his son, years of reading people working in his favor. There was more to the story, but he chose not to address it. “I’ll expect you not to get “caught up” again this Summer. I’ve taken the liberty of setting up a few more ventures for you. The first being back in Dubai. You’ll be there for 2-3 weeks, so plan accordingly.” He paused, taking another draw from his cigar before continuing after exhaling. “You’ll also be checking in on some of our current markets as well, which I’ll have my PA send you an email regarding the locations of when I return home.”

Princess wasn’t surprised when Mark just let himself in. She was in the middle of throwing some things that she didn’t want him to see into her drawers while simultaneously kicking some clothes under her bed. “Sure, come in, I guess,” Princess greeted in a flat voice, giving up on tidying up all together and plopping down on the chair of her vanity. “I actually was and probably would have gotten away with it if I wasn’t rooming with Blaine.” Princess sighed and nodded. That sounded exactly like her mom. “Well, I’m doing just dandy, Sir. See?” She tried to prove her point by standing up and giving a twirl. “I’m alive, doing good in school and even applied for nursing school so like, yeah.”

“Nursing school.” Mark repeated, then pressed his lips together with a surprised expression. He knew Pamela had been bringing it up again but he hadn’t thought she’d pressed her about it yet. “Good. That fallacy of a comedic career could only last you so far into the real world.” He leaned against the door frame, eyeing the untidy piles about the room but kept quiet about them. “Your grades here are good, I had a look, how about claim prospects? You know you and Blaine are the most vulnerable, it’s early yet but you should still have an eye out.”

Blaine’s expression fell as his eyes moved across the hallway to the bathroom door. He simply nodded and moved across the hall without another word, pulling the door open and picking Yoda up off the floor. He’d dressed him in a suit he’d ordered off the internet, the nerves evident on his face. “Um, surprise? You’re a grandpa.” He tried to grin at his father, lightly bouncing the clueless puppy on his hip. He hoped it was harder to be stern with him if he looked happy enough, but knowing his father, he knew that might be a bit overzealous.

The scowl on Mark’s face was evident at the mere sight of the dog but referring to him as a grandpa, as if the creature could equate to something like family had him hiss out a scoff. “A dog, Blaine?” The gleeful look on his son’s face did nothing to temper the swell of disapproval over the matter. “Here I thought you were attending this school to gain your education and mold into a claim worthy submissive. Not galivant around with unnecessary distractions.” He tutted, leaning back to distance himself further. “Put it away.”

Rie followed her dad quietly, always peaking to make sure everything was in order like she had left it. Double checking. When he finally sat down, Rie closed the door behind her and moved to sit down on her own bed. “My classes are going great. They’re all very interesting… And I’m very happy with the selection I’ve made. This semester and the previous one. D/s Law has obviously been a favorite so far,” she said, ignoring the extra course topic. “Did you have a favorite one when you used attend?”

Mark nodded, that being her favorite was no surprise. With her interest in politics and what not. “And the VP title.” He said with a half smirk. The news of Henrietta’s election had been no surprise to him either. All his children had a way of achieving what they sought after, it was in there genes no doubt. “How’d that fair for you this year? I imagine you’ve gotten a lot done in your time with the position.”

Still keeping yourself busy, I see. I’m glad to know I was able to make an impression. I didn’t drop the name, you see, but I did drop the Fabray, Sir.

You know what they say about idle hands. Well then I wont ask if you’ve brought him along then. Good for you, dead weight that one. I heard he’s barred from returning to campus. Glad to hear you’ve distanced yourself from that embarrassment.

Always! Boring days are totes for the weak. Oh. You guys definitely needed someone to shake things up at the time then! The new hip things?! Of course! The curfew makes fun hard sometimes, but there are great places to go in town. Some very great bars. You should definitely try having a fishbowl drink. The beach is great and we’ve had a few parties there already. Also the campus in itself is not only huge, but totes ready. I’ve done a bunch of not-public-forum-friendly stuff that I really enjoyed. 

The curfew helps keep you all from getting into trouble. I know you particularly have had your brush ups. Unfortunately my fish bowl days are behind me, I’ll stick to the scotch. How is your education coming?

Trixabelle, what a name. Thank you for the greeting, I won’t need to be hearing any details about how well acquainted you are with my sons. Although it’s good to hear they’re getting their practice in.

That does sound very nice, Sir. No Sir, my parents went to a finishing school in New York, but rightfully so they believed Devereux was a more prestigious academy.

It’s certainly of the best of the best. Are you one of those new scholarship program students I’ve heard about?

The trip to the Oak Club had been planned since before his arrival at Devereux. Mark thought it fitting to discuss his son’s decision to go on Spring break as opposed to the business trip he’d pulled strings on there, and fortunately the conversation seemed to flow that way on it’s own. As he lightly tapped his cigar into an ash tray between himself and his son, his gaze found the other as he finished a short list of things to avoid in terms of international business trips. He sat up straighter in his chair as he continued, his expression void of any emotion. “You didn’t attend the trip to Dubai. I believe we can both agree that would have been good experience.”

Princess had just finished getting ready for the day, spending way too much time choosing a swimsuit to wear and even more time on the dress that covered it. She was still in the middle of putting her hair up when she heard the knock on her door. Just assuming it was Blaine, she was already opening her mouth to invite him in, but was stopped midway when she heard Mark’s voice. She dropped her brush and moved to stand up, immediately moving to clean up her room. She didn’t really care about Mark but what he was going to report back to her mother. “Um… nobody’s home!” She tried, even though she knew that wasn’t going to fly.

His expression remained blank at her response, it was what he typically expected of her. With his foot Mark nudged the door open and stepped into the room. He glanced around first, taking in the untidy areas and then landed his gaze on Princess, giving her a nod as greeting. “I hope you weren’t expecting to avoid me all week.” He spoke incredulously. Princess had changed over the years, but Mark had noticed her pivot in attitude from the moment the triplets where born, even as young as she was. “Your mother wanted me to make sure to check in on you.”

Blaine chewed on his lower lip anxiously, watching his dad emerge out of Princess’ room. He was worried for her, knowing how she felt about these things. But he made a mental note to check on her later. “Yes, Sir. Um… so, I have a surprise. Kind of,” He said, practically able to hear his heart beating in his ears. He’d made a point of not introducing Yoda before now, because at least now it was private, and he could hide any lectures from his siblings. He nodded and turned on his heels, making his way to the second door at the end of the hall. “I won this room in a competition, but I’m sure you heard already. Um, Princess has the bigger room, but… I have two smaller ones…” He said, motioning to two doors on the right side of the hallway. “My bathroom is here, and the laundry room is right next to it.” He motioned to the doors on the left. He was the king of stalling and anxiety.

An eyebrow rose, surprises were never a good thing when it came to this family. “That so?” Mark questioned but caught on quickly to Blaine straying from what he had to say to show him around like he’d asked. “Two?” He questioned, slightly confused but keeping up. The Switch observed the space, looking around as Blaine pointed things out but he quickly grew bored and found a place half leaning, half seated against his son’s desk. He crossed his arms. “What is this surprise?”

Mark had told her the night before that their father would be coming to see her in the morning, so Rie made sure to be up bright and early. She had showered, she had changed into clothes she thought would be presentable enough and waited. When her dad called, she made sure to be waiting for him by the door. “Good morning, dad. Did you have a good drive into campus?” she smiled back, nodding then and following him inside. “They’ve been good. Both of my roommates so far have been relatively quiet. We rarely see each other,” she said, pressing her lips together as she looked around herself. “And the accommodations aren’t bad. I believe they’ll be redoing the scene rooms soon,” Rie added, letting her dad check whatever he wanted to. She knew there was nothing she could really do to stop him from snopping around. “I don’t mind the roommate rule.”

“Hmm.” Mark hummed in response, not quite agreeing with his daughters opinion on it but glad to hear she was getting along with her roommate and looked at ease in her space. Henrietta was neat, all his children were, but he walked the room as if he were inspecting it. After a look around her bedroom as well Mark took a seat in the desk chair, settled comfortably and crossed his legs. “And your classes? Your brother told me you both picked up an extra course this semester. That’s very efficient of you.”

Oh, hello Sir. It’s nice to see you. I was surprised I didn’t see you here for Parents Week, but I’m sure you were busy. I don’t know if you remember me, but we went to school together. Judy Fabray, though I was Judy Murphy back then.

I was away on business during parents week, Pamela got a chance to drop in, spared the kids a double dose of me in their business. I remember you Judy, I see you have dropped that Fabray name.

Blaine’s dad!!!! Us youngins have totes been doing all sorts of things with those blindfolds for sure. 😊 What used to be your favorite thing about this place? My dad has a whole list, but most of them aren’t as fun as I expected them to be. 

Still as excitable as ever I see, Alina. I’m sure my answers will be just as dreary to you as Elijah’s. Why don’t you tell me about the new hip things you kids are getting up to around here? I dare say a lot has changed.

I see. I’m simply looking to spend time with my kids, catch up with some of the old class. Do you have alumni parents returning?
