Funny how I've seen posts both saying that "Gemma still loves Mark 100% but it is he who has fallen out/only feels guilt for her/had already iced her out before her death", and posts saying "Mark still loves her 100% but she is too broken/too fundamentally changed/she is not Mark's person anymore". You guys are THIS CLOSE to coming to the mindblowing realization that these two damaged individuals still long for each other and feel a deep love for each other and in fact them finding each other again after terrible despair makes their relationship all the more juicy

I’m ngl I don’t really care that much about the Severance ship wars and who is endgame etc, but what really irritates me are shippers who make obvious underhanded comments about Gemma under the pretense of being excited for her future storylines.

Like it’s so clear some people can’t wait for a hint of negative characterisation so they can pounce on her immediately when the time comes, but currently talk about it under the guise of being excited for her future development. Or they insult her intelligence by suggesting they would 100% back her for being angry with the MDR innies (their favourite characters who they constantly defend mind you) for creating her poor tortured innies as if she hasn’t so far been portrayed as empathetic and smart enough to recognise they are victims too who were unaware of what they were doing and the real enemy is Lumon. Same with the ones who think she’d be angry that Mark got the procedure to ‘forget her’ - you don’t think she’d be more heartbroken at the thought that her beloved husband was in so much pain and suffering at the thought of never seeing her again that an evil conglomerate managed to take advantage of his vulnerability and convince him to get brain surgery to ease that pain? You don’t think she’d be devastated it took him two years to even think of getting intimate with another woman? I’m not saying her reaction would or should be perfect, but I think many of the markhelly shippers who make these kind of remarks and who are rooting for her to go fully apeshit are frankly disingenuous in their concern for her.

It’s made searching for Gemma content an absolute minefield because too many posts about her are from people who clearly dgaf because she’s a threat to their fav pairing. I don’t care if she gets negative character development and I don’t care if she dumps Mark’s ass/Mark dumps her for Helena. But y’all are clearly hiding your glee about Gemma potentially being villainised behind a veneer of genuine love for her character when you literally never talk about her otherwise. And it’s because y’all KNOW your dislike of her is irrational. It’s as bad as the people who act like Mark and Helly’s relationship is boring/unimportant/invalid and y’all jump on them any chance you get.

The fandom uses this character as a punching bag because it's in the way of the innie one, and what could be just a casualty that's common in fandoms when two pairings happen to the same character, ended up developing into racists comments just because the actress is a poc. An actress who has seen the hate and barely interacts with fans thanks to it and talks about her character's love story with Mark Scout, Gemma's husband, as if she had to ask for forgiveness. That's how aware she is of the hate. From there, the bullying in the markgemma fandom started, and to add more fire, because the other side of the fandom only knows how to bully and doesn't care enough about them to mind their own business, they also say that Gemma is a nothing burger because, to their dismay, she is very much alive and Mark Scout loves her.

If that wasn't enough, now even in the submitted propaganda we can see that they choose to blame the writers becayse nothing else worked, because people still care about Gemma, and that propaganda is making some shit up about her plot being mysoginist or not knowing enough about a character who had a whole 50 min episode where we saw her as a person and her as the true victim of Lumon and the resilency for the two years that she had while been down there.

Honestly? The Gemma Scout fandom and the markgemma fandom are fucking soldiers, still existing even with the hate we are seeing everywhere from fake fans who refuse to see beyond her. Still, when any other character has similarities to the ones they critique in Gemma, they see them differently. But not Gemma, not the character that is an inconvenience and "the asian nanny", the one who deserves better away from her husband, aka the butt of the joke of a fandom that has even insulted Gemma's followers to no end. They are bullies, and in 2026, that behavior should not be tolerated.

Vote for Gemma Scout as a reminder of what fandoms have become and no one should allow any longer.
