Scared stiff, you stay locked in place, your survival instincts all but fleeing you in the stupidest bid for self-preservation you’ve seen yet.

You’re playing possum with your eyes wide open. You can’t believe it.

The hand moves ever closer, and you still don’t shift, staring into the Not-Invincible’s face for something to knock you from your stupor. You lock in on the controlled way his jaw flexes, at the slight furrow of his eyebrows under his mask, then the barely-there tilt of his head as he takes you in.

The pad of his thumb comes to rest on the cusp of your brow, the rest of his fingers curling around the side of your head until his palm is cupping your cheek. That great hand of his, larger than Mark’s ever was, doesn’t crush your head like you expect it to.

Instead, only his thumb moves, slowly, in the same reserved fashion you’d turn the pages of a well-loved book, the paper close to falling from the spine if you’re not careful. The digit shifts back and forth gently in a petting motion, the heat of his body bleeding through the material of his glove.

“Angstrom lied,” he mutters, voice flat and deep, edged with familiarity in the way only Mark’s could be. “What—”

“If you’re going to hide like a coward, don’t half-ass it.”

Symbol zips down the line, throwing out a leg to catch Omni upside the face with. It swings like a battle axe, displacing air as it drops where you and Omni’s faces are too close for your liking.

Out of the two of you, Omni’s the only one with enough sense to do anything about the nuke about to drop down on your heads. The man wastes a second moving you away with a controlled push before half-catching the kick with his palm, but Symbol follows it up with a second one. It hits true under Omni’s jaw and sends him smashing up through the ceiling.

You catch the way his gaze gravitates to you as he’s sent through the concrete, disappearing out of sight. What should be the time to panic about being left to fend for yourself against Symbol isn’t necessary. The man doesn’t even glance in your direction, shooting off the ground after Omni.

The wind that is generated from him taking off has you tumbling away in a mess of limbs. Laid out on your back ten feet back, blessedly alone, alive, whatever wires crossed to send you into freeze-mode right themselves.

“Wow.” You push up, stumbling over your feet as you zero in on Calvin, using your limited time wisely while the variants are occupied.

“Wow. Wow. Wow,” you chant under your breath, mind replaying those terrifying few moments over and over.

That was recognition. A weirdly intimate one at that. One that raises more questions than answers, and promises more problems than not.

He meets Mark during the Flaxan invasion in episode 2 [I think]!!

They meet during the third wave of the fight, while Sam's out helping an injured hero fall back. Mark, still new to the hero gig, is still reckless with his powers and choices, which would lead to Eve getting injured while helping him. Bro I can't even lie Sam would hate Mark for that for a while... If Mark ever tries to check up on Eve post-fight, maybe in like an infirmary of sorts [Sam WILL be by her side], he will snap and tell him to back off because HELLO HIS BEST FRIEND NEARLY DIED The second time they meet will probably be during the Guardians of the Globe auditions, where he properly apologizes and after calming down a bit and realizing he's new, Sam does reluctantly accept his apology

Blah blah these nerds go to the same school, have a few classes together, but nothing inherently romantic really goes down until like season 2-3

I'm very big on the friends to lovers on these two ok 💔💔🥀

Maybe them realizing their feelings at best BUT THEY WON'T GET TOGETHER TILL AROUND OR AFTER THE VARIANT WAR

SORRY I JUST SAW THIS 💔💔 But yes he does!!

Rant below the cut because holy YAP 💔🥀🥀

Just a basic summary of his abilities: He's got intangibility and density manipulation, which means he can make himself and anything he's touching as dense or sparse as he wants. This means he can phase through things, or make things phase through stuff, even bring them back while still inside.

A basic rule of this power is to never phase back inside something that is denser than you unless you are the one wielding the power, because you will, like, die. [ex: phasing back in tissue is fine, but a wall would, ideally, not be]

Frequent usage of his powers can lead to migraines, nose bleeds and even passing out.

ANYWAY

Long story short he's the resident test tube baby

Something something he's made to a sort of safeguard by the GDA but something happens and he's not aging as fast as he should in the tube and the powers are off [he could've been op but NO]

Uh anyway, he's then evicted from the tub [lmao] and set up for adoption by the GDA itself, who then sets him up with his family based on economic status, background among other things [more on that later]

His parents are big on having a big family so obviously we're giving him a foster sibling, Milo!! [And later two more]

He discovers his powers at the age of 10, while throwing a tantrum in the bathroom and kicking a wall. His foot phases through, before phasing back and BAM no pinky toe.

Yeahh his parents don't really know why until he's 13

Any it's at this point that the GDA's like ok yeah he's ready now bring The Horrors™ and they send an email to his parents under the guise of the school board mentioning something along the lines of a "scholarship at a prestigious private school.” [HEAVY WIP JUST BARE WITH ME HERE]

This is basically just an excuse to start training, but since an actual education is important, there are probably tutors at the Pentagon??

Didn't really realize until I watched the Atom Eve special but his powers are more physics-centric, just like how Eve's is chemistry, so naturally I had to make them buddies because who wouldn't want Atom Eve as their best friend???

Thus begins the life of training and later heroing around the age of 12-13 [you'll never guess who he meets]

And of course, with his powers being both a danger to himself and others at times, at least one mission's got to go wrong. During a retrieval mission everything's going smoothly until the end when he slips up [mind you he's 13]

Obviously, he's panicking, hands out, begging the man to not do anything as he makes his way over. There's no point in running, he's not fast enough to last more than 10 seconds out of his reach.

Something something his fight-or-flight is triggered, powers get messy and his hands phase through the man's chest before phasing back while still inside him

This is the story of his first [accidental] kill

After this mission Sam heads straight home having a panic attack and his parents find him in the kitchen, blood on his hands, on the verge of probably fall straight into the earth's core

His parents comfort him, as he comes clean about his powers and the training and the mission

And then he lived happily ever after

NOT

At age 15, he does fail to save his brother, Milo. A building's collapsed because of another ongoing fight and was Sam's out keeping stragglers safe, he completely misses a block.

He finds his brother's body in the rubble, and with emotional instability comes instability of his powers. whaat no why would he ever accidentally mutilate his brother's dead body while trying to hold him

ANYWAY bro goes back to school like a normal person once he's in high school and in senior year he meets Mark!!

and the rest is history!

I DO have more lore but wow I've already yapped so much I think I'll save it for another ask

I think there’s something like, out of touch with Helions understanding of sciences and maths… his understanding of things like that is more like muscle memory than fields of study if that makes sense.. his grammar is probably odd at times (which doesn’t help in instances he can appear to be condescending, but he’s genuine) and his understanding of any Earth geography is abysmal haha
