Summary: Itâs the first day of classes and nerves are really setting in. Especially when (y/n) gets invited to a party by a cute boy. Hi iâm doing a multi part thing (series? mini-series? weâll see.) and this is really just an intro to it. Iâm setting the scene, or the vibe, dammit.
Parts: Two
So many people.
That was my first thought about college. From when I arrived on campus for move-in day, to right now during my very first lecture. Who knew so many people were going to take 7:40 a.m. Chemistry. I stared down at my notebook, trying to push down the overwhelming feeling forming in my stomach. Itâs intimidating being in a room packed with people you donât know.Â
âIs it alright if I sit here?â
I looked up. A girl stood in front of me. I nodded my head, trying to fight back my anxiety and find my voice. âYeah, go ahead,â I responded, pushing my bag over to the side to make more room for her and her stuff.
She smiled at me brightly. âThank you! Iâm Amanda by the way.â Amanda was tall, tan, and stunning. She had shiny blonde hair that came down to her waist and a fresh baby pink manicure.
I smiled nervously back at her. âIâm (y/n).â
âThatâs such a pretty name?â Amanda exclaimed as she pulled her laptop out of her bag. âWhatâs your major?â
I relaxed a bit. Amanda seemed pretty chill. âCivil engineering,â I responded. âWhat about you?â Amanda and I continued to talk. She told me that sheâs part of the pre-dental program and it turns out sheâs hella funny.
More and more people piled into the lecture hall as it got closer to class. It was noisy, but I didnât mind. I was completely at ease at this point. âDo you know anybody else thatâs supposed to be in this class?â Amanda asked
Right as I opened my mouth to respond, I heard a familiar voice from the back of the room. â(YYYYYYY/NNNNN)!â
Amanda and I both turned around to look at who was yelling. A brunette boy stood in the doorway looking around frantically. Jackson Wang. The biggest goofball I know, and my best friend. I sighed, though a smile was still on my face. âJackson!â I yelled back, waving my hands. He darted to where Amanda and I were sitting as soon as he caught sight of me.
âWell that answers my question,â Amanda laughed as Jackson squeezed passed both her and I, plopping himself down in the seat next to me.
I laughed lightly. âYeah, this is my best friend, Jackson,â I said to her. I turned to Jackson. âJackson, this is Amanda. Sheâs our new friend.â
âSounds good! I love new people,â Jackson said, a bright smile on his face. The three of us talked until class started. Jackson filled me in on how summer baseball camp when for him and made Amanda and I crack up with all of his stories about the guys on the team. By the time our professor started going over the syllabus, My nerves from earlier were gone.
*Â Â Â *Â Â Â *
Jackson and I said bye to Amanda once class had ended. âThink sheâll sit with us next time?â Jackson asked.
âI hope so. Sheâs really nice and funny,â I said. âI need coffee. I didnât sleep well. The people next to me were being super loud all night.â
âOoo, I know a really good place on campus,â Jackson said, taking my arm and leading the way.
I shook my head and smiled. âOf course you do. You always do.â
It was sunny outside. Campus was bustling with students. There were upperclassmen stationed all around campus to help all the new students find their classes. We passed a club trying desperately to recruit new members.
âAre you going to join and organizations?â I asked Jackson.
Jackson hummed as he thought. âIâm not really sure. Baseball seems like itâs going to take up a lot of time. I want to do pre-med society, and Iâm thinking of joining a fraternity, though.âÂ
Jackson wanting to join a frat didnât surprise me in the slightest. He was so outgoing and likable, and he wasnât exactly a stranger tot he party scene either. Heâd fit in. âI think youâd like it a lot,â I responded as we approached the Student Union.
Jackson opened the door for me. âYou should join Greek Life, too,â he said.
I shook my head. âI donât think so.â
âWhy not?â he asked.
I shrugged. âItâs not really my scene. You know that.â
âIf you say so.â
We walked in silence for a minute before he pointed ahead. âThere it is. the best coffee shop on campus.â
âWhat would I do without you?â I asked as I smiled at Jackson.
âDrink shitty coffee.â I laughed. He wasnât wrong. Jackson and I stood in line debating on what to get. âDo I want an Americano or iced coffee?â
âAmericano. Youâre gonna need energy for practice tonight,â a rich voice said from behind use. Jackson and I both turned around. An extremely attractive dark haired boy approached us.
Jacksonâs face lit up. âHeeeeey!â he said, doing that weird bro hug thing with the boy. âWhere were you during Chem??â
âI couldnât find you!â the brunette exclaimed. Then he looked over to me, a charming smile on his face as he stuck his hand out. âHi, Iâm Mark.â
I smiled shyly and took his hand. It was rough, but soft at he same time. I felt my cheeks flush a bit. My god, this man is attractive. âIâm (y/n).â Mark squeezed my hand lightly before letting it go.
Jackson looked between Mark and I. A devious smile appeared on his face. âHey Mark, isnât your frat having a party this Friday?â I sent an annoyed glance towards Jackson.
Mark grinned. âHell yeah. Youâre coming, right?âMark looked at me. âYou should come too, (y/n).â
I hesitated. Partyâs are not my thing at all. âShe will.â Jackson said quickly. I glared at him, but mark didnât seem to notice or care.Â
âSounds great,â he said. âIâll see you guys then.â He glanced at me one more time, a small smirk on his face, before walking away.
âWho was that and what did you just get me into?â I asked Jackson, trying to suppress any annoyance or anger.
âMark Tuan, heâs on the baseball team with me, and you are coming to his fraternityâs party with me on Friday whether you like it or not,â Jackson said with a grin.
âFine,â I sighed. Jackson usually had the best intentions, so there shouldnât have been any reason to worry. I mean Iâd been to a bunch of parties with him. Still, something was making me nervous. I donât know why, but Mark Tuan makes me feel some type of way.

Ya know, I would honestly love to have a Mark Tuan in my life. Not even like as lover or anything like that (though thatâd be cool too) but as a friend who I could hang out with and rely on. Somebody who I trusted with all my secrets and feelings and stuff and vise versa.
Soooo hi. I didnât expect to take that long of a break. I donât have anything to post soon that I know of, but who knows. Maybe Iâll get inspired. Catch is not over by the way, I just havenât written part 4 oops.
Part of why I was gone was because I was stressed from school and just needed a break. Iâve had some writers block and I just havenât been super motivated or creative lately. Recently Iâve been putting a lot of time and effort to help spread awareness about whatâs been going on socially, (Iâm not really going to get into it on here because I do realize that a lot of my followers come here to escape from reality and the harshness of daily life. BUT if you guys would like for me to post about ways to get involved and what you can do to help, I would be more than happy to) as well as actively getting involved to help put an end to racial injustice and police brutality for good. I hope you are all doing well and are safe. If any of you need to talk, I am here and more than happy to listen and support you. You are not alone. <3
Summary: After things went south at the part, Mark apologizes and makes it up to with a date
Previous: Intro, Part 2
Disclaimer: I am by no means a professional (or even good) writer so sorry in advance for any grammar or spelling errors and mistakes. Also, I didnât proof read it.
The weekend went by fast. I spent most of it hiding away in my dorm after what happened Friday night. I was still not only upset about he Mark situation, but even more confused then I was before the party. Iâd finally come to terms with the fact that I had a minor crush on him, and talking to him that night only made me fall deeper down the rabbit hole. Then that girl showed up, and it felt like I got punched in the stomach.
I stood on Allieâs desk taping fairy lights along the top of the wall. âMaybe she was just some random girl who had a few too many,â Allie suggested.
I sighed. âI donât know. She didnât seem that drunk, and it seemed like she knew him pretty well.â
âFrat boys are nothing but trouble,â she said, frowning and shaking her head, her curly hair bouncing with the movement.
I sighed again. Thoughts of Friday night and Mark were swimming around in my head. I kept thinking about how his eyes would sparkle when he started talking about something he was passionate about, like his major or baseball. Or how heâd throw his head back when he laughed really hard. But then I kept thinking about how heâd held onto that girls waist, in a borderline protective manor. I needed to distract myself.Â
I taped up the last part of the lights and hopped down from her desk. âWanna go to the cafe and get dinner?â I asked. Allieâs eyes lit up and she nodded. Food would surely take my mind off things.
We slipped on our shoes and grabbed our things. Then, just as we opened the door to leave, we met a familiar person outside our door. Mark Tuan. His eyes were wide and his hand was raised, ready to knock on the door. Allie raised an eyebrow at him. âUm, can we help you?â she asked, clearly confused.
Markâs eyeâs met mine as he let his hand fall. I looked down. âIâm actually here to talk to (y/n),â he answered nervously. âBut, I can go. You guys seem kinda busy.â
Allie glanced at me. My eyes were trained on Markâs sneakers, and I was nervously wringing my hands. Things seemed to click in her head. âOh - um - no, we arenât. We were just headed to dinner,â Allie responded. She turned to me, her voice more gentle when she spoke. âIâll wait for you downstairs, okay?â I nodded. Allie glanced at Mark and I before heading down stairs.
Things were silent between Mark and I, the air between us thick with tension. I hadnât even thought about what I was going to say to him. I didnât even know if I wanted to confront him. What would I confront him about? Not telling me about that girl prior? Playing with my feelings? Iâd only had one actual conversation with him, and he isnât obligated to tell me anything. Making any accusations certainly wouldnât make the situation any better either.
Finally Mark spoke up. âIâm really sorry about Friday.â I looked up at him, finally meeting his eyes. His looked tired and his hair was messy, but not in a relax or effortless fashion.Â
âItâs alright,â I hesitated, not totally convinced by my own words. By the look Mark gave me, I could tell he wasnât either. I sighed. âOkay, so itâs not, and Iâm actually really upset about even though it shouldnât be. I barely know you so itâs not like itâs any of my business anyway.â
Mark smiled at me gently. âI want you to know me though,â he responded. âAnd I really want to know you.âÂ
My cheeks heated up, making him smile wider. I couldnât help the smile that started to creep onto my face. âEven during a serious conversation, you still manage to flirt,â I teased, hitting his shoulder playfully. Mark laughed. It was that same high-pitched, honey sweet laugh that I heard of Friday. I could feel the tension beginning to dissipate.Â
However, there was still one question that was keeping me from letting go and losing myself in all that was Mark Tuan. And It was absolutely none of my business. If he wanted to tell me, heâd tell me, and I knew i should respect that. But I couldnât stop myself. âWho was that girl anyway?â I finally blurted out. âYou donât have to tell me if you donât want to, thought.â
Mark sighed, running a hand through his hair. Despite being ridiculously messy, it looked soft. It was hard to keep myself from reaching out to touch it. âNo, you deserve to know. Her name is Summer. We dated last school year. It ended really weird. We were still talking before this semester started. Nothing serious, but still talking.â
I my spirits fell a little bit. âAh, I see,â I replied, desperately trying to hide any disappointment.
âBut then I saw you with Jackson, and I was immediately interested,â he said with a smile.
I couldnât help but smile back. âReally? Why?â
Mark shoved his hands in his pockets and leaned down a bit so his eyes were level with mine. âBecause youâre really pretty and I wanted to find out who you were,â he answered, his voice soft. It reminded me of silk. âJackson mentioned you - a lot actually - but what he didnât tell me was that youâre stunning, in every way possible.â
He left me speechless. My cheeks were warm again and my stomach was swirling. âMark,â was the only thing I could respond with.
Mark stepped closer to me, a warm smile on his face. âLet me take you out sometime. Like I said, I want to know you. I want to know the things that make you nerd out and the little things that annoy you. I want to know how you think and understand the inner working of your mind,â he said, the silkiness still present in his voice.
My head was spinning. My heart was pounding. My stomach was no longer swirling, but doing back flips and cartwheels. Nobody had ever made me feel this way before. Nobody had ever wanted to know me like how I wanted to know them.
Finally, I responded. âIâd like that a lot.â
Mark grinned like a kid in a candy store. I couldnât help the little laugh that escaped. âGreat! How does tomorrow at seven sound?â
I pretended to think for a second, humming to myself. I tilted my head slightly, the smile on my face getting bigger. âThat sound great.â
Mark and I exchanged phone numbers before he walked me downstairs to where Allie was waiting. âYou look awfully happy,â Allie commented as soon as Mark left. âSpill.â
I laughed and shook my head. âIâll tell you after we eat. I have to tell Jackson and Amanda, too, or else they might kill me.â
*Â Â Â *Â Â Â *
âWell, whatâd he say?â Jackson asked impatiently. Him, Allie, and Amanda were all grinning at me.
I tried to hold back a smile of my own. âHe asked me on a date,â I answered, childlike giddiness in my voice.
Amanda and Allie squealed. Jackson started bouncing on my bed next to me. âI never thought heâd do it!â he exclaimed.
âWhy not?â Amanda questioned.
Jackson leaned back against my wall, a goofy grin still adorning his face. âI donât know if you noticed but Mark is pretty shy. Dude barely talked when I first met him.â
âAre you sure you didnât just talk so much that he couldnât get a word in?â I snickered.
Jackson bumped my shoulder with his. âNO,â he retorted. We all laughed.
Amanda smiled dreamily. âI love this for you,â she gushed. âYa know, I heard heâs the dream boy of the baseball team. Apparently, all the girls drool over him.â
Jackson rolled his eyes. âDude, if only you knew. Girls will watch us practice just to see him,â he grumbled. âWhenâs the date?â
âTomorrow,â I replied.
Jackson gasps, causing Allie, Amanda, and I to look at him in confusion. âWhat are we doing then? We need to pick out what youâre going to wear!â
I sighed. He was such a drama queen sometimes. âJackson, itâs not until tomorrow night.â
He shook his head and pushed himself off my bed. âNonsense, (y/n). You should always be prepared, especially if things go horribly.â
I rolled my eyes. âThanks for boosting my confidence,â I muttered.
Amanda pointed at Jackson, nodding in agreement. âHeâs not wrong thought. Itâs important to be ready for anything. You never know when you may need to flex on a bitch.â
We all laughed again. Finally Allie spoke up. âI think itâd be fun. We could have a girls night and do face masks!â
Jackson made a noise of protest. âHey, what about me?â
I laughed and climbed off my bed, pulling out my stash of face masks and miscellaneous skincare products. âJackson, weâve been over this before. Youâre always included in girls night.â Jackson let out a pleased squeal, then proceeded to dig through my closet.
*Â Â Â *Â Â Â *
I stood in the mirror sending Jackson and Amanda pictures of my outfit for the evening. Somehow I knew they were going to demand to see it even though theyâd already seen it last night. Jackson picked out jeans and a cute top for me, claiming Mark would more than likely take me someplace casual. And as always, he made sure I had a jacket. I used to take his all the time in high school until he started making me bring one everywhere, so itâd become a habit of his to make sure I had one.
I played with my hair in the mirror to distract myself from the anxiety that was building in my stomach while I waited for Mark. Jackson and Amanda were blowing up my phone with positive affirmations. Theyâd even gone as far as to create a whole group chat with the three of us just for this date.
Amanda: Make sure you take chapstick!! ;)
Jackson: H E Y
Jackson: Mark may be my homeboy and as much as I support this date, there will be NO KISSING, do you understand me young lady?
Mark had finally texted me to say that he was here. I grabbed my bag and jacket, saying bye to Allie as I headed for the door. Right as I was about to leave, Amanda sent me one last text in our private thread.
Amanda: Hey, I know Jacksonâs just looking out for you, but donât take the jacket. Trust me. Have fun, love bug! Text us the details after!!
I stared at her message for a second before shrugging and tossing my jacket on my bed. I didnât quite know what she was getting at, but something told me to just trust her. With that, I headed downstairs to meet Mark at the entrance of my dorm building.
He was waiting by the door for me when I got down stairs, leaning against the wall scrolling through his phone with one hand in his pocket. I felt my stomach flutter. Mark had this cool boy vibe about him. His messy hair, dark shirt, and black denim jacket only added to it. There was something mysterious about it, and that only attracted me to him more.
He looked up as I approached him, a smile spreading across his face once his eyes met mine. He pushed himself off the wall, taking a step forward to meet me. âHey,â he breathed.
âHi,â I replied softly.
âYou look really pretty,â Mark said shyly, the tips of his ear turning red.Â
I smiled, my cheeks flushed. âThank you.â
âYa know, itâs really cute when you blush at the things I say,â he chortled.Â
I rolled my eyes, trying to ignore the heat crawling up the back of my neck and darkening the tint on my face. âOh, letâs just go already,â I replied, unable to keep the small smile off my face.
âYes maâam!â Mark grabbed my hand and lead me out the door to his car. His hands were warm and soft, which was odd since he played baseball. But hey, who says athletes arenât allowed to moisturize. Plus, I liked the feeling of his hand in mine. It was comforting.
Mark opened the passenger door for me before hopping into the drivers seat and taking off to where it was we were going.
*Â Â Â *Â Â Â *
I looked around in awe. Colorful lights flashed all around and laughter filled the air. Children were running ahead of their parents, high school students were grinning eagerly as they waited in line for rides, and workers watched in boredom as people tried to win the nearly impossible games.Â
âI hope you like fairs,â Mark said as he rubbed the back of his neck shyly. âI didnât think to ask before hand.â
I looked at him with a smile. âIâve never actually been to a fair before.â
Markâs shy demeanor was replaced with one of shock and excitement. âWait, really?â
 I nodded in response.
Mark grinned and grabbed my arm, pulling me towards the ticket booth. âOh, this is going to be so much fun!â Mark decided that we were going to get the full access wristbands, insisting that I needed to get the full experience. âWhat do you wanna do first?â he asked, looking at me.
I looked around at the brightly lit rides and booths. There were so many. And they were all so intriguing in some way. It was overwhelming honestly. âI donât really know, thereâs so many,â I answered, then I looked up at Mark. The way the light reflected off his skin was pretty. It was like he was standing in a room lit by neon pink and electric blue.Â
Mark looked over at me. I felt my cheeks heat up, but I didnât look away.. Heâd caught me staring at him and there was no denying it. A large grin spread across his face. â(y/n), youâre supposed to be looking at what you wanna do, not me,â Mark teased. âUnless...â
âYou are such a boy,â I sighed, my cheeks darkening and a content smile on my face. Mark laughed. It became more melodic every time I heard it. âAnyway, why donât you show me youâre favorite things to do?â
Mark nodded, his eyes twinkling with childlike delight. âSure, but youâre going to think Iâm lame or cheesy.â Mark grasped my hand in his for the second time tonight, making my heart flutter a bit.
I raised my eyebrow at him. âMark Tuan? The most popular bachelor of the baseball team? Lame? He could never,â I teased.
Mark snorted. âLooks can be deceiving then, canât they?â He shot back, his lips curling into a smirk.
I rolled my eyes at him. âYouâre trouble, Tuan.â
This made Mark grin. âGlad you caught on,â he replied, leaning into me a bit as we walked.
I shook my head, but I was grinning, too. âWhy would, I think youâre lame?â I questioned, finally changing the topic back to what we were talking about before.
Mark shrugged. âI donât really care for most of the rides here. Iâm not a thrill junkie like Jackson and a lot of the other guys on the team,â Mark said. âI like people watching and the games, even though theyâre impossible.â
I smiled. âThatâs so wholesome.â
Mark looked at me and smiled back. We stopped in front of a game booth. A metal milk can sat in the middle of a table. I looked up at the sign above us. It read âMilk Tossâ in big, bold letters. âThis,â Mark began,â is my favorite game.â
I looked at him. He beamed with childlike delight. âIsnât this game one of the hardest?â I asked.
Mark nodded. âYeah. Iâve been playing this game since I was a little kid. I would get so frustrated because I couldnât win. Then, I started playing baseball in middle school.â Mark stepped forwards, showing the man working the game his wristband. The man gave him a bored smile before handing Mark three softballs. Mark held a ball out to me with a gentle smile,â Do you want to try?â
I hesitated, eyeing both Mark and the ball before talking it. âOkay, but you canât make fun of how uncoordinated I am.â
Mark chuckled. âI promise I wonât make fun of you.â
Focusing on the entrance of the the milk jog, I tossed the ball. My eyes followed the sphere as it went through the air and bounced off of the rim of the milk jug. âI told you,â I sighed.
Mark smiled, reaching over to squeeze my hand. âItâs okay, itâs not youâre coordination.â Mark reassured. He turned his attention towards the jug. He took a second to focus before effortlessly tossing the softball into the metal can.
âHowâd you do that?â I asked.
Mark grinned. âItâs all in the wrist.â As he tossed the last ball, making it in the jug again, he explained. âAim for the back of the back of the rim, and give the ball some back spin. It slows the momentum of the ball down, so instead of bouncing off the can, it slides in the hole.â
âNice job, kid,â the worker congratulated. âChoose anything youâd like from the top rack.â
Mark looked at me with a smile. âTake your pick.â
I blushed, turning my attention to all the fluffy stuffed animals that lined the top of the booth. It was the big prizes. They ranged from colorful alpacas to Pokemon stuffed animals. Out of the corner of my eye, at the very end, a cow caught my eye. I pointed to it. âThe cow is really cute,â I said shyly.
The worker grabbed it off the wall and handed it to me. âEnjoy!â He winking at Mark before turning his attention to the next players.Markâs face heated up a bit, but he grinned nonetheless.
Mark slipped his hand comfortable back into mine. âCâmon, thereâs more for you to see!â I giggled and followed as Mark pulled me along and continued to show me his favorite rides and games.
The moon was high in the sky and families had made their way home by the time we decided to make our way to the most iconic fair and date activity before heading home - the ferris wheel. Mark and I squeezed into the passenger car. The wheel started moving and a cool breeze blew through, making me shiver. It was finally starting to feel like fall outside. Mark seemed to notice. âCold?â he asked.
I nodded. âYeah, a bit.â
Mark took off his denim jacket, slipping it over my shoulder. So this is why Amanda didnât want me to bring my jacket. I thanked him, pulling the jacket around me a bit tighter. It smelled like fresh linen and cologne.
As we got higher, I could see more of the fair below us. It looked even prettier from above. The lights twinkled and created a soft glow that cascaded over the entire area. âIt looks so pretty from here,â I said softly.
âSo do you.â
My cheeks heated up and I looked at Mark. He was looking at me, his brown eyes soft. They were easy to get lost in. The fair lights below created a soft aura around him, making him look almost angelic. I couldnât help but smile a bit.
âWould you be upset if I kissed you?â he asked in a tranquil voice.
âIâd be upset if you didnât,â I answered, my voice just as soft as his, afraid to shatter the air between us.
Mark leaned into me, wasting no time pressing his soft lips against mine. I let myself melt into him, euphoria surging through me. His hand ran up my arm to the back of my neck, pulling me closer to him. His mouth was warm against mine, but goosebumps still rose on my skin. Marked pulled away and I had to stop myself from whining. His forehead rested against mine, the previous rush of adrenaline making us smile like idiots. We stayed like this until our cart reached the bottom of the ferris wheel and it was time for us to exit.Â
Mark took my hand, guiding me out of the seat and towards the exit. âLetâs get you home or else Jackson will flip on me for keeping you out so late.â
âOh, donât bother. Heâs going to flip once he finds out we kissed,â I snickered.
Mark threw his arm around my shoulder, pulling me into me. âDonât remind me,â he groaned. Mark kissed the top of my head and nuzzled his nose into my hair. âFull disclosure, kissing you is most definitely worth getting chewed out later.â
