adelaide.
Adelaide smiled a little, nodding at her words. “Exactly, and there are still plenty of frogs left to kiss before we find our prince charming.” Adelaide confirmed, taking another sip of her coffee and wrinkling her nose. “It’s just so… tedious.” She let out a small groan. “People always talk about how they found their perfect match, and they make it look so easy.”
“tell me about it,” she said with a sigh. “people just run into the loves of their lives on the sidewalk, when is that going to happen to us?” she laughed and shook her head. it all seemed so silly, the stuff of fairytales. “well how have things been going on the non dating front? the red looks nice, by the way.”
winona.
*゚+.*.。 — IT WAS ANOTHER slow day at turn the page, noticeable in how winona was currently propped against the checkout counter, a book in one hand and a cup of boba in the other. lilac liquid sloshed against the side of the plastic cup as she tipped the straw closer to her mouth, gaze never once straying from the page that held her rapt attention.
until, that was, the bell atop the door jingled — at which she promptly turned, startled & reasonably embarrassed, to greet the customer. ❝ w-welcome to turn the page !! are you looking for anything in particular today ?❞ this was all said, of course, as winona attempted to keep from choking on a tapioca pearl.
she heard the familiar ring of the bell as she pushed open the bookstore door. not only was turn the page a popular spot for students to pick up textbooks, but it was also the workplace of her friend, winnie, and she often stopped by to visit. “just me!” she called as the other greeted her. “are you okay?”
she had brought them both lattes, but it seemed she was too late. “oh damn,” marley said upon seeing winnie with a drink in her hand. she set both cups down on the counter anyway and pulled up a chair. she unloaded one of her textbooks to get a head start on some reading. “pretty slow today?”
rose.
Rosie smiled at her and looked around the shop. There was no one else around. “Well, I’m not supposed to do this, but I could give you a discount since it’s your birthday and all. As for suggestions, you seem like an orchid.” She scanned her. “Yes, you’re definitely an orchid.”
“oh you don’t have to do that,” marley said with a light laugh, though it certainly was a kind gesture. if the other insisted on giving her a birthday special, she would most likely just give her the difference as a tip. “i am?” she smiled. she took it as a compliment, orchids were definitely beautiful flowers. “how so?”
adelaide.
“I can understand that.” Adelaide nodded slowly. Some of the people she had gone out with were at her mother’s suggestion. Similar types to what Marley had described- doctors and lawyers and politicians in the making, and they simply didn’t do it for her. “I just… I want someone real.” Adelaide admitted. “I want someone sweet, someone kind. I want someone who makes me feel safe, you know?”
the word real definitely resonated with her. she had something real once. her mother had something real. she’d always admired her mother and step father’s relationship. she wanted something like that. “yeah, totally,” she nodded, looking solemnly down at her coffee. “and you know what? those people are out there for us. i know it. we’re just going to have to kiss a lot of frogs before we meet our true love, right?”
happy twenty-second birthday to marley bonfamille !
rose.
Rose was tending to daisies when the customer strolled in. She didn’t bother looking up, more concerned with the wilting flowers than with a potential sale. Really, she did better around plants and animals than people. They were much less complicated. She avoided eye contact as long as she could before acknowledging that no other florist would take care of this for her. She smiled and finally looked up. “How can I help you today?”
“it’s my birthday,” she said as she turned around to see the other girl. it wasn’t that she hadn’t gotten lots of nice gifts, or that there weren’t other people that could get her flowers. but she loved flowers, especially pink ones, and she felt there was absolutely no reason she couldn’t buy herself a birthday treat. “i was just looking for something pink and fragrant. do you have any suggestions?”
adelaide.
“Right!?” Marley had a very similar upbringing to her own. Of course she had it instilled in her how to be a lady, Adelaide just doubted that her mom was as… intense as hers. “I really do, every woman deserves better than that.” She made a face, taking another sip of her coffee and shaking her head. “I really do need to find this guy though, this whole bad date thing is getting really old.” She sighed, pushing her red locks out of her face. “What about you? Any news on the dating front?”
marley smiled, nodding her head. “what’s my girl,” she teased. they both sat in a big of coffee filled silence as they sipped their drinks. though the sounds of the cafe cluttered the air around them. “tell me about it,” she rolled her eyes, letting her face fall into her fist propped up on the table. “unfortunately not. my mother’s friends have found a plethora of nice boys and one girl for me to go out with, all studying to be doctors or lawyers. but sadly, none of them have stuck. i guess snooty rich kids aren’t really my type.”
adelaide.
“Listen, I know I’m old fashioned to a point, but I do think that the guy who asked for the date should pay for it.” Adelaide ranted to the other as she sipped at her coffee, her brows furrowed. Another bad date- the third one this month. The amount of bad dates Adelaide had been on over the last few months was just staggering. Maybe her standards were too high, or maybe the men of Apple Peak were just duds. “It’s not that he forgot his wallet, he just didn’t pay. He literally pushed the ticket towards me.” Adelaide shook her head, tucking a lock of red hair behind her ear. “What do you think about this mess?”
“wait...WHAT? he asked you out, and then expected you to pay for it? oh no no no, that is unacceptable,” marley said before bringing her coffee cup to her lips. it wasn’t that marley had a great success rate with dating lately either, but her mother had always taught her that she deserved to be treated like a lady, and that was something she instilled in her friends. “that’s not old fashion, that’s just common courtesy. you deserve better than that, far better than that. a man should fall at your feet and jump at the chance to buy you dinner. we’re gonna find that guy, i promise.”
