Especially, if its chlamydia psittacosis.’ Felipe answered as moved from the desk to his new patient to take Blue from the blonde and examine the bird. It looked fine on the first glance, there was no immediate reason to worry as far as he could tell, but there must have been something if the girl was concerned. ‘Have you considered it simply being mad at something? Parrots sometimes like to act like that. But I’ll check either way… You are registered in here, right?’ He asked, realising that he actually only even saw the blonde from afar.
Rose nodded at him. “Right, sorry. I don’t know why I thought we had already met. Rose, Rose Briar. Sorry I am overreacting, but I used to want to be a vet, so I know little things like this can usually end up being big things.” Rose thought for a moment. Well, Blue could just be a bit temperamental, especially when it concerned guest in her home. Especially a frequent guest. But she wasn’t sure the vet wanted to hear about her bird being jealous of her boyfriend. “He does have a habit of being picky about people.”

Rose was not prepared for the person staring at her. Then she realized they were looking at the flower crown she had hand crafted on the table and was placing on her head. “Do you like it? I am more than happy to make you one,” she said. “I am quite attached to this one though.”
It was an unusually busy day at the clinic - something he didn’t appreciate one bit as it meant that all of his little patients were in one way or another unwell.
Felipe had just finished with one of the patients - a pup who had swallowed a bee and had it’s whole snout swollen, and was about to sign off for a lunch break when the doors to the clinic opened again and a familiar face popped in. He looked up from the computer screen to greet the newcomer. ‘Now that’s a face I haven’t seen in awhile Is everything ok?’
Rose had never talked to this vet personally, but she had glanced at him from the corner of her eye before. Just a split second, before he was gone again. But he clearly knew her bird, though Blue didn’t usually frequent the vet’s office. “I don’t know what’s wrong with him. Blue just hasn’t been talking the last few days, and I am not sure what else I can do. I am worried it may be candida or psittacosis.” She hoped whatever he had wasn’t contagious and that he would be okay.

“Uh, no. I don’t think so.” He shook his head, thrown off by the unexpected question. “I was just picking some up for…my mom.” He lied, having had no plan before he walked in there.
Rose smiled at the boy, not sure why he seemed so flustered. Maybe he was nervous about picking out the right flowers for his mom. “Well, what do you want to say to her with the flowers? They all have different meanings, you know.”

“Welcome to the Watering Can. You here to purchase some flowers for a special someone?” She tilted her head at the handsome young man. “Sorry, you just seem so familiar. Have we met before?”

James’ jaw clenched. He supposed he deserved that. That didn’t mean he had to like it, though. Some ‘friends’ they were to let a pregnant woman remain in an environment like this. Even he knew better than that. “Fine place to catch up, a bloody bacchanal swarming with shifty looking university students.”
Rose snorted. They both knew most of them frequented James’ bar. It was rich coming from him, though she managed to bite her tongue. “They’re harmless,” she said. Rose eyed the frat boys by the keg and rectified. “Mostly.” She sighed. “James... you really hurt me. But I still want to do this with you if you are ready for it. If not, I will do it myself. Get out of your way.” She had already told him, she didn’t want anyone in the baby’s life that didn’t want to be there.

“Marriage is a big step, but having a baby is just as big of a step,” Juliet said, almost a little worryingly. She couldn’t imagine what she would’ve done if she had gotten pregnant. Not that there was ever any worry with her – she hadn’t ever had a significant other, nor had she even had her first kiss yet.
“I have no doubt that you could raise that baby by yourself if you wanted. Do you have any ideas on names yet? Or is it a little too early to be thinking of that?”
“Well, it is the first trimester, so I won’t know the sex for a while. Male, Female, Intersex; it’s all up in the air right now.” She sighed. “I have been so worried, I forget to get excited about this. I mean, it is a miracle. I am growing a person inside of me.” It was strange to think about. Rose and James had created an entire new life together. “I always figured I would adopt and they would come with their own names.”

“Then I guess you’re the perfect companion for tonight. Let’s see if we can find something nonalcoholic for me to drink,” she said.

“can’t believe spring’s already here.” she couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief about that. winter’s felt too long and just thinking about it coming within the next few months made her wrinkle her nose. shooting a glance over, the corner of her mouth curled in a slow smile and she shrugged. “one more season ‘till summer too, huh? something to look forward to.”

“I love spring. All the flowers are in season and there are so many people at the Watering Can. It’s great for business,” she said. “I prefer it to summer actually. Way too hot for me.” She started organizing the flowers into an arrangement worthy of the season. “I think it needs more yellow. You?”

“Well, rubbish to him if he doesn’t take the news that you’re pregnant well. He should be supportive. All potential fathers should be supportive.” Rather awkwardly, Juliet started to pat Rose’s shoulder. “Well, erm. It’s quite alright. Don’t worry, I’ll help you figure something out. Your boyfriend is sure to come around eventually, right?”
“He better,” she said. “It’s not as if I am asking to marry him or anything. I know we aren’t ready for that.” Even if she had always pictured her child being born to her and her husband, she had to let that dream go now. At least it was with someone she loved, though he probably did not love her back. “Though I could do it by myself if I had to.”

James let go of the stranger and walked over to Rose. It was hardly a happy reunion. He stood in front of her, silent. He wasn’t sure what to say. God damn this woman for always leaving him so out of sorts. After a moment, James finally spoke.
“You shouldn’t be at a place like this in your state.”
“I’m surprised you’re concerned considering the last time we talked you actually accused this baby of not being yours,” she said. It was surprisingly vindictive of her, though the baby had been putting her through quite a few mood swings. “I haven’t been drinking. I have just been with friends, catching up. ”

“I’m feeling great!” Sam said, even as he let the much smaller Rose take on some of his weight as he leaned onto her. “Not really feeling much of anything anymore!”
Sam spoke as if that were a good thing. He looked down at Rose, almost proud of himself. He’d drunken himself into such a state of numbness that he only just barely hurt to see her. His eyes were dry, hear beat normal. His chest constricted only the tiniest bit. Sam felt clever for having found a way to deal with his normally overwhelming pain.
“Be careful there,” she said. A smile found its way on to her mouth. Rose did not want to encourage him, but she could hardly do that anymore when she was pregnant, could she? She doubted even Sam’s affections went so far that he would still hit on her while she was having a child with another man. She patted his shoulder halfheartedly. “I am glad you’re having fun. Do you know the person who is throwing this whole thing?”

“We’re staying out of trouble right?” They were both the same age, but she was not above yanking anyone’s ear if they were misbehaving. “I think all of Apple Peak showed up to this thing.”
