In Eating Laura Marling, the folk singer talks candidly about anorexia for the first time on the record while she mashes beets with tahini from the Silverlake farmers market. “I was confronted by my own body. After a couple of years of misbehaving with food my body just shut down and I had my first of what would become regular panic attacks on stage. I thought I was dying. My body was going into shock and I had never experienced anything like it.” — Hanne Steen’s “Eating Artists”
Amidst all kinds of mental crossroads, this kid always gives me a sense of clarity. Thank you.

2015 version. More live audio on my site as I’ve finished the live sessions page by adding the ones from 2014 and 2015 - http://preytonone.blogspot.com/p/live-sessions.html. I couldn’t tell you how many hours I’ve spent doing those sessions. There’s close to 300 songs on that page! Feel free to post any of them anywhere and spread the Laura Marling love :).
New LM dates: 13 Nov // Mercy Lounge, Nashville (tickets) 15 Nov // The Orange Peel, Asheville (tickets)
But far be it from Laura to conform to expectation. This November she and her three piece band, after a year of fuller sounding shows, go back to basics, throw their minimal gear in a van and head out on a 5 date US tour, with a view to debut and capture a crop of new material, encompassing the intimacy between song and audience. Routed to reflect Laura’s connection to a road tripping lifestyle The Tour De Ville is an exclusive invitation to experience first hand, in a series of intimate venues, an evening of never before heard music as you the audience become part of the journey in the next chapter of Laura Marling.

Up until A Creature I Don’t Know, I felt like the title girl was very appropriate to me. I was a girl. For whatever reason, I think a part of it perhaps because I was now aware I had to have strength in order to get what I wanted done. I realised that, if I was going to be able to expand my creative existence – my songwriting – I needed to step a bit further forward in the back processes of it. In order to do that I needed to not be perceived as a girl, I needed to be perceived as a woman. In retrospect I see that that shouldn’t make a difference, whether you’re perceived as a girl or a woman. Your strength should come from wherever it comes from.

Fantastic sounding, remastered version of this live performance, sourced by Franz Schöler (a music journalist and Laura Marling fan from Germany). Franz is all about the quality and he may not speak to me again if I don’t provide the lossless file so you can download the flac here :).
