The Levihan moments we got in 139

Ok, putting aside whatever we feel about Hange’s death for a minute, let’s look at the last Levihan bits we did get in this last chapter.

First of all...

Levi says “Have you been watching?”

Levi asked Hange to watch them in 132. So, here he acknowledges it again. And guess what? She’s there watching all this while. He also said “Seeya, Hange” back in 132 and here he gets to see her again one more time. His facial expression before it shows their panel is also sad but even slightly warm. As if looking at a familiar sight that he loves. Then we see her face. Erwin and the others are there too. They look at peace. It’s so nice to see. But Hange...her eyes are sad. Her face is full of longing maybe? She even appears to be looking down slightly...as if with regret (seems like Moblit notices this). I’m sure she wishes she could be there with Levi. That they could have spent their lives together.

Then they fade out and Levi salutes while crying with a faint smile. On the upper panel on the left, we see the wings of freedom symbol. Maybe it’s the back of someone’s cape? The last person to fade out? Maybe Hange’s?

Time has passed. Levi is hanging out with Falbi and Onyankapon. A plane flies overhead. Gabi and Falco gaze up excitedly but Onyan and Levi share a look or rather, Onyan looks at Levi who is gazing melancholically up at the plane. Their expressions are familiar....sad. They both know what the plane reminds them of. Why else would Isayama draw that panel? Even years later, Levi remembers Hange. He can’t be thinking of anyone else in this moment. Hange’s sacrifice is keen in his memory. And think about it, this is the last time we see Levi in this story. The last time we see Levi, he’s remembering Hange. Hange is represented by the plane...always watching him from above. Can it get any sweeter? Oh and, after this we see Mikasa remembering Eren. She sees a bird and we know it symbolizes him. Levi saw the plane, Mikasa saw the bird. Both Ackermans have moved on and survived but they still remember the people they gave their hearts to. They always will.

The sun was starting to set. We were running to a tree on a hill. The three of us…were racing. Eren brought up the idea and took off out of nowhere… mikasa ran too but stayed behind him on purpose… and of course I was dead last. But the breeze was nice and warm that day. Just running felt good… leaves fluttered everywhere. and… for some reason I thought then. maybe… the reason I was born… was so that the three of us could be racing there. I thought the same when I read books at home on a rainy day. When a squirrel ate some nuts I gave it. When we walked around the market too. I felt it. That these trivial moments might actually be precious.

Oh My God, I didn’t expect such a twist !!!

Because, all along, this above from ch1 was actually about...

“MIKASA”

Not gonna lie, at first I was like “????” but as I kept on reading, I figured it out.

Ymir Fritz wished for freedom because her love for King Fritz made her unable to stop him, his quest for domination and massacre causing her pain, because all she could do was participate in it.

Meanwhile Mikasa...

...stopped the man she loved, saving what was left of the world from his terrible plan.

Mikasa did what Ymir couldn’t.

So to anyone who’s wondering why Isayama left Ymir an abused woman, that’s simple : love is never about suffering or submitting to your lover’s horrible actions.

“To you, 2000 years from now” is Ymir wanting to convey to Mikasa not to make the same mistake as her.

Where Mikasa thanks him—

For everything whilst giving him the softest of smiles—

Really shows how important this moment was to Eren—how much Mikasa’s words meant to him—how she gave him the strength he needed—and how beautiful she is to him.

And as Eren dies, this moment, her smile, will forever live inside his heart—
