If you're interested in programming, videogames and videogame programming, then you're in luck cause @lauraqwerty and I recently released a video on some of the programming stuff I did on A Story Told By The Stars, our visual novel.
Prepare the perfect birthday in this short visual novel!
Hello everyone! @lauraqwerty and I released another short visual novel, this time called The Perfect Surprise! You will play as Dory, who needs to plan a surprise party for a friend without getting caught!
It was originally planned for a gamejam, but since due to various reasons we didn't have it on time, we decided to polish it a little bit more and publish it alongside an extra story featuring two characters that appear on the game.
You can play it completely for free from out itchio. Please give it a try and let us know if you enjoyed it!
If you played A story told by the stars, the visual novel @lauraqwerty and I created, and are curious about how it came to be and some of the details on the development, we wrote a Postmortem about the game, almost half a year after its release (although it feels way longer than that 😵)!
We wrote about the first concepts of the game, some of our tips and things we learnt along the way, so consider reading it on the links below! We would love to hear what you guys think 😊
Hello everyone! I participated in a Spanish gamejam alongside @lauraqwerty & @Narvalian (on Twitter) where the theme was Nature & Sustainability, so we did a game where you have to create sustainable ecosystems! 🦊
It's free, it's short, and I'm really proud that we managed to create it in around 2 days, so consider giving it a try!
Ayuda a crear ecosistemas sostenibles y salvar la naturaleza
@lauraqwerty and I have finally finished the game! It's a visual novel about two guys and their story, so if you're interested please check it out, since it's completely free!
We also added some neat features like different text speeds and a special font that should help dyslexic users, so we hope everyone can enjoy it! 🥰
Mark doesn't cause the best impressions, but he IS nice! I promise!
And you'll be able to find out playing A story told by the stars, which releases on 17/07/23! It's less than a week away and me and @lauraqwerty are busting our asses over here!
The game is approaching release sooner and sooner, and as such it's only fair that we show a bit more of the gameplay of A Story Told by the Stars! Ansel and Mark's relationship didn't start on the best point.
And, wait, that pose at the end seems familiar, doesn't it?
A short drabble written thanks to the Rise movie trailer inspiring me. Spoilers, of course.
"Master!"
Casey jumps down the amount of debris to where his master is lying on the ground. He holds his breath as he approaches a hand to his neck, and he can't help the exhale of relief when he feels a pulse. In a quick motion he grabs him, carrying him from one arm, and starts to run.
⚠️TW: CHARACTER DEATH & IMPLIED CHARACTER DEATH⚠️
Master Leonardo wakes up, eventually, and his eyes dart nervously until they land of Casey, the man seeing how his gaze relaxes.
"Hi ther-Ow." The master complains, holding his stomach.
"You were hurt. Can you keep up?"
"Duh." Casey rolls at Leonardo's response. "I can still kick your ass, I'll remind you."
"Even at this state?"
"In any state."
Suddenly they're ambushed, and Casey barely notices his master jump to the action, swiftly dealing with the two in front of them. A sound behind makes Casey turn around swinging his weapon by instinct, dealing with another one that was too close for comfort. He jumps backwards, his back colliding with his masters, who speaks almost instantly.
"Switch sides."
"Got it!"
Casey sees one of the monsters jump towards him, but like so many times before him and Leonardo rotate, and he catches a glimpse of the creature getting a kick straight to the face. Without missing a beat Casey swings his bat again, sending another Kraang flying backwards.
"Casey!"
He hears his master's scream, and before he can react he's being pushed away, rolling to the ground. A mere second later Leonardo falls right beside him, a large Kraang blocking their front.
Casey tries to go for his bat but the Kraang moves faster, the man seeing the monster's hand barely centimeters away from him.
…but nothing happens. He then notices a glowing orange light around them, which can only mean—
"Mikey!" Leonardo shouts just when the Kraang is sent flying across the ground, his body colliding with every possible obstacle until he's tossed far away from them. Then, like a miracle, Casey sees Michelangelo appear before them.
"Leo! This is bad." He notices Casey and briefly smiles, but the worry is permament. "I can't contact April, and we're—"
Michelangelo shuts up for a second. He breathes, deeply, and looks at Leonardo straight in the eyes.
"We only have one choice now."
"No." Leonardo states. "We—I can fight better, I can get in there and—"
"Leo."
Casey sees his master look down. He can't see his expression, barely hears his voice.
"I'm so sorry, Mikey. I failed you."
Michelangelo just hugs him. It takes a while, but Leonardo returns the gesture, almost crushing him. As Casey gets up, he can see that Leonardo doesn't let go easily, and Michelangelo has to push him away.
"You didn't fail me, Leo. Not a single one of you." He then looks at Casey, a smile on his face. "Take care of him, okay?"
"What?" Casey tries to approach, but his master puts a hand on his shoulder, gently pushing them back. "What is happening? What is he—"
A sudden light surrounds them. When his eyes adjust Casey sees Michelangelo, his whole body glowing with light. He streches his arms, and a portal starts to appear before him. Is then that Casey notices Michelangelo's legs start to dissapear.
He tries to scream, but a flash engulfes everything. When he opens them, only the portal remains.
"Master?"
Casey looks at Leonardo, only to see him with his back turned on him. He slowly approaches a hand to his shoulder, when suddenly his master raises his head, breathing deeply.
"Casey, listen."
Leonardo turns around, confident smile on his face. He grabs Casey from his shoulders before speaking.
"I have a very important task to give to you." A sudden noise happens far away, but still Casey sees Leonardo push him towards the portal. "If you cross this portal, it will take you to the past."
"Wait, what are you-"
"In there," Leonardo continues without stopping, "you will need to find something the key that brought the Kraang here in the first place. That is the last trick up my sleeve."
"Wait!" Casey pushes Leonardo away. "Do you want me to run away and leave you here?"
"No, I want you to save us." Another sounds takes place much closer this time, and Leonardo pushes Casey down into a crouch with him. "I need you to do this, Casey."
Casey tries to speak, but the words don't come out of his mouth. Leonardo gives him a serious look, a hand on his shoulder.
"Get the key. Stop the Kraang. Got it?"
Casey simply nods. He sees for a second Leonardo smile, when suddenly his face turns into one of terror. He quickly dashes past him, throwing Casey away at the same time the clash of metal sounds behind him. Casey grabs his bat, about to fight with Leonardo when he feels someone grab him by the collar of his shirt.
He grabs whatever has him, instantly recognizing it as his master's hand. He's spun around and thrown to the portal, and as light engulfes him Casey sees Leonardo's back towards him, two enemies approaching him.
Leonardo blocks the first one, but the second one is coming from behind. Casey streches a hand and screams, but then everything surrounding him turns to a bright light, and he's forced to close his eyes.
Hello everyone! This is the story I wrote for the Lego Monkie Kid Fanzine that was published very recently! If you'd like to check it out, you can do so here.
=====
Sighing, MK walks through the entrance to the museum, holding the need to complain about how boring this is, especially knowing he should be fighting Monkey King. Maybe even winning!
But, of course, Monkey King just happened to be sick the same day a new season of his show drops on Notflix, so he can’t train MK, giving him the task of searching for your inner reason to fight looking to the past, bud.
MK was confused at first, but Monkey King recommended the museum, and so here he is: he might as well try to enjoy it.
He decides to go towards the technology section, checking out different machines and how they evolved through time. He’s checking an old rifle, learning interesting facts about its creation when someone talks to him out of nowhere, making him stiffen.
“Interesting things, aren’t they?”
MK slowly moves his head, finding an old man by his side. The man looks at him, and his face quickly morphs to—
“Macaque.” MK whispers, hands turned into fists. “What are you doing here?”
“Calm down, bud.” Macaque snickers, striding around MK. “I’m not here to pick a fight.”
MK doesn’t drop his guard down, and hears Macaque sigh before speaking again.
“What can I say, I have my moments.” Macaque then stops, giving him a good look. “Why are you here, though? I don’t see you like the type to enjoy things so… immobile.”
“I have my moments.” MK repeats mockingly, and then starts to walk away. Macaque follows close behind, much to his dismay.
Macaque grumbles to himself for a while, when he suddenly laughs, teasing MK. “Oh, don’t tell me Wukong didn’t want to train with you? How sad.”
MK grumbles and walks faster, but Macaque matches his speed in no time.
“Oh, don’t take it as an attack. Wukong does have a tendency to… leave people behind.” When MK looks angry at him, he talks again. “Hey, no shame. He ditched me too, before.”
“It’s not like that.” MK whispers as he crosses his arms. “Monkey King said this is a special training for me to tune with myself.”
Macaque snorts, clearly not believing him. MK tries to focus on the pieces, but of course the monkey by his side decides to continue speaking.
“You know, I really enjoy museums. Help me remind myself of some things.”
MK rolls his eyes. “For example?”
Macaque laughs, but it’s so soft it catches MK off guard. “That’s a secret, bud.”
After that, silence fills the air. MK glances to Macaque, finding him deep in thought, looking down. He speaks again, and MK doesn’t feel any malice from his words.
“The things here tell more than what they appear to at first sight. I suggest you really focus.”
MK glances at him. “What, trying to be my mentor again?”
Macaque shrugs. “Hey, doesn’t hurt to have more than one teacher.”
MK sees Macaque’s body turn into shadows, and before he can do anything he’s gone, like he was never there. MK ponders using his special vision to track him, but he has the gut feeling that it’s okay to leave him go.
Macaque’s words linger on MK’s mind as he continues to walk across the rooms and hallways, eventually reaching an exposition titled “Heroes from the past”. MK enters the display, looking around and seeing amazing tales from different heroes and legends, Monkey King included, that saved so many people and helped make the world a better place.
As MK continues to look at these stories, he can’t help but realize that some of the people defeated in them remind him in certain ways of the villains he deals with constantly: people who think the world deserves to revolve around them, and who hurt anyone who disagrees with them.
It’s something obvious, but since all the stories revolve around the victories against these people, they are all written off as “people who did bad”. But as he can see, no matter how much time passes, bad people keep popping up, and heroes have to step up and deal with them, risking their well-being constantly.
MK knows all these people did the right thing because they wanted, but he can’t help but wonder what would have happened if the bad people they had to fight… didn’t exist. Would they have been heroes as well, just making a good world even better? Would they have lived normal lives with their loved ones?
MK sits in a bench, thinking about these questions. If Monkey King hadn’t choose him as his successor, he would have probably been happy just with his normal life: delivering noodles, hanging with Mei and the others, listening to Tang’s stories and so on.
But…
“Look, dad!”
The sudden scream makes MK jump a bit. He looks to the far end of the room, where he sees a young girl accompanied by his father. Both of them are looking at a showcase filled with different items, which seem to be toys.
“Oh, this one looks like the one you have at home, right?”
“Yeah!” The girl excitedly moves her head up and down, pointing to another one. “And this one looks like the gift you and daddy gave me on my birthday!”
“It does look like it.” The father says, picking up his daughter from the ground and sitting her on his shoulders. “I’m sure this kid also had parents who loved them very much.”
The two leave, and MK approaches the showcase, checking out the different toys: wooden horses, worn out dolls and other tiny objects fill the space, each with a description of where it was found.
MK is hit, then, with another realization: if bad people will keep popping up, good people do as well. He thinks about how all the heroes could have chosen to not do the right thing, and yet… they did.
A warmness fills his heart thinking about his friends: Mei, Tang, Pigsy, and Sandy. They decide to help him when he needs help, even when things seem dire, and that helps him help others in return.
MK ponders if the heroes of the past realized this, too. If someone like Monkey King once thought about not caring. He thinks about Macaque’s words, and if this is what he meant.
In the end, MK leaves the museum a while later. He knows life will bring him many challenges, but he knows he’ll strive to do the right thing and protect those he holds dear to his heart.
You two have lots of strenghts; cooking is not one of them.
This is a very short drabble I wrote the other day in a discord server. I cleaned it up a bit and decided to share it here!
______
"Actually, we want to cook today."
Mikey raises an eyebrow. "You don't know how to cook."
Donnie and Raph ignore Mikey and his following protests about the idea, and end up pushing the younger brother to the TV room, being told to just relax and that they will do something simple.
But Mikey can't relax.; as much as he loves his brothers and that they're trying to give him a free day of cooking, god bless their hearts, they were terrible cooks. Out of the 4 of them, Mikey and Leo were the ones that could cook, while Raph and Donnie...
Mikey remembers the first time those two cooked something together, his tummy already complaining about the memory. He spent an entire day sick, and he doesn't want to repeat the experience.
But even so, that was a long time ago, and for all Mikey knows, Raph and Donnie might be able to cook now. They also said that they would cook something simple, so hoping that he won't regret this, Mikey breathes and puts the art channel, focusing on the program.
When the program is starting to get interesting Mikey hears screams and some faint shouting. He sighs and goes to investigate, and he can't help the tired face he puts on when he sees what awaits him in the kitchen.
Both of his brothers are near the entrance of the kitchen, with Donnie trembling behind Raph as the oldest brother has a very focused face. Mikey looks with curiosity at the mystic arm his brother has summoned, which goes all the way to the stove and is currently trying, and failing, to turn the knob to put the burner off.
And above said burner Mikey notices the cause of all this mess: a pan spewing oil everywhere, which what looks like an entire packet of eggs half burning on it. He glances back to his brothers, his tone just a tiny bit pretentious.
"Is everything under control?"
Donnie and Raph both jump, the mystic arm dissipating. He grumbles something while Donnie answers for both of them, louder than necessary.
"Everything's fine! We just had a little… mishap! So please, return to watch the TV. We have this under control."
Mikey simply shakes his head and walks towards the stove, ignoring his brothers screams and shouts. He turns the stove off, the oil slowly calming until the only risk is the smoky box of broken eggs on the pan.
"Mikey!" Raph shouts again, clear worry on his voice. "You could have gotten burnt!"
Mikey snorts at Raph's comment. "I'm fine, Raph. This little oil is barely an issue! You should have seen the time I accidentally dropped the entire turkey."
Donnie raises a hand. "Wait a second, do you mean-"
"Come on now, chop chop!" Mikey says, pushing both his brothers out of the kitchen. "Let me cook something quickly, I'm starving. You two will clean the dishes though."
Donnie and Raph can simply nod as they leave the kitchen, looking defeated. Mikey feels bad about it, knowing they were really trying their best, so when he checks the frigde he nods to himself, seeing the ingredeints for their favorite dishes.
"Oh, wait, I should also do one for Leo. He will be jelly otherwise."
After confirming all of them can eat good tonight, Mikey wastes no time starting to cook. After all, no point in having the ingredients if he won't use them.
Hello everyone! A couple of friends and I participated in the 50th edition of the Ludum Dare, where the theme of the game was "Delay The Inevitable".
We ended up creating the game Not Enough Time, where you must take care of the defenses and well being of a small family during a zombie apocalypse. It's a short and free experience, so please try it out if you want to! You can play directly on the browser :)
(A short and hopefully cute Macaque x Sandy story inspired by this very cute art by @ninjasmudge)
"Ah, darn it."
Sandy sighs softly, closing the tea cabinet. He keeps rummaging around for a while, but he knows he won't find lavender tea bags anywhere. He glances at his plants, the lavender he's growing not ready to be used yet.
Even having an itch for lavender tea, Sandy knows there's not much he can't do. He looks again at the teas he can make, but realizing he doesn't fancy any, he settles for taking a nap.
Sandy drops to the sofa, and it doesn't even take a minute to find himself surrounded by cats, in an impromptu sleeping cuddle session. Mo jumps to his belly and get comfortable there, and as he straches him he drifts to sleep.
Sandy doesn't know how much he sleeps, but a faint tapping sound at the door wakes him up. He manages to carefully move himself out of the snuggle pile without much of a ruckus (although Mo complains a bit), but when he opens the door he sees no one.
But a certain smell does catch his attention, and when Sandy glances down he can't help the smile blossoming on his face when he finds a small pot with lavender in it, ready to be used for tea. He grabs it happily, but as he enters back to his ship he can't help but feel a bit sad not being able to thank whoever left him this gift.
However, far away on the docks some shadows take form, the figure smiling to himself as he walks away.
