Hello, I'm new in helpol but not in witchcraft. I started as a demonolatrist, I met wise, powerful demons who changed my life for the better but I just felt like it wasn't my path for a long while. I started worshipping Ares in June 2026 and I just feel like He's the God that i really needed in my life so I want to make a devotional blog for Him. I also worship Lady Aphrodite.

I'm 20 and I'm a woman. I study law btw, not to brag:D

I love marsian spirits, the demons i worshipped were also marsian.

Ares: a rather misunderstood god. He’s so much more than just violence and war. Here’s some resources and sources on him. I also got some Ares devotees to contribute some ideas for devotional activities for him.

He is Ouranic.

He is usually depicted as a beardless youth, baring a sword or spear, wearing a helmet. In the Iliad, he is described to be extremely intimidating. In other cases he’s shown to have a beard.

Ares is misunderstood to simply be an angry, war driven god. This is false - he is the god of protection and rebellion. He is a protector. His Homeric hymn shows it well:

Homeric Hymn 8 to Ares (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic B.C.) :

“Ares, exceeding in strength, chariot-rider, golden-helmed, doughty in heart, shield-bearer, Saviour of cities, harnessed in bronze, strong of arm, unwearying, mighty with the spear, O defender of Olympos, father of warlike Nike (Victory), ally of Themis, stern governor of the rebellious, leader of the righteous men, sceptred King of manliness, who whirl your fiery sphere [the star Mars] among the planets in their sevenfold courses through the aither wherein your blazing steeds ever bear you above the third firmament of heaven; hear me, helper of men, giver of dauntless youth! Shed down a kindly ray from above upon my life, and strength of war, that I may be able to drive away bitter cowardice from my head and crush down the deceitful impulses of my soul. I hope that this makes people more comfortable with him. Ares is a wonderful deity, and doesn’t deserve to be ignored. I’d recommend watching The Pastel Priestess’s podcast episode on him, she does a wonderful job.

I love being angry, I love being strong, I love being fierce, I love being a devotee of Lord Ares.

I'm not weak anymore.

Ares taught me that anger is sacred.

Anger is the power that is awakened when you have nothing else.

Anger is your protection.

Anger can fight the biggest fear.

Anger can get you back on your feet.

I grew up severely anxious. When I first started worshipping Lord Ares, I suddenly began feeling an overwhelming sense of wrath almost all the time during the first few weeks. At first, it was exhausting.

But then I realized something: I was doing things I had been so fucking scared of before simply because I was angry. I started setting boundaries because whenever someone disrespected me, that anger pushed me to react.

I used to be terrified of setting boundaries, especially with men (what if they hurt me if i do it?). But now I don't fucking care. I think quickly. Someone disrespects me—I react fiercely, and they immediately change their approach.

Simple as that.

Fear no longer controls me.

It's not about starting unnecessary drama. It's about reclaiming your power and control.

Aphrodite and Ares has one of the most romantic stories in Greek Mythology and I wish is got more love.

Quick prayer guide for newer helpols 🌿:

When I first started I didnt have any idea of anything really and especially couldn't look for the information online, therefore with this post I'll hope to help any newlings, who currently deal with a similar lack of information.

To start it off, none of this is required. It's more for recreationalists or those who just really like to keep old traditions alive. If you don't do this at all, that's completely fine. It's up to you!

The usual hellenic prayer can be split into three parts: The Invocation, the argument and the request.

1. Invocation:

You call upon the deity you pray to. Calling upon them establishes the needed connection. Could be their name, a title or even an epithet. Epithets are usually in connection to what you're praying for, ex. calling upon Dionysus Eleutherius, when hoping to free yourself from something bothersome.

2. Argument:

Stating or showing why the gods should approve of your request. This would be the time to offer an offering if you've got one. If not, a reminder of why they should grace you with what you desire is enough, ex. If I have ever offered you this and that, please grace me with this and that. Overall you lay out your reasonings.

3. Request:

Lastly you ask the deities to grant you their blessing in whatever it is you desire. Thank them and show respect.

If you pray just to further establish your Kharis, without wanting something in return, then this structure would be mostly irrelevant for you. Invocation would be all the same, but the argument and request part would cease. Fill up your prayer with compliments, honoring your deities, thanking them and adoring their attributes.

These are not signs of weakness

these are all symbols of the warrior
