So now that Episode 9 is fully out, can I take a moment to talk about this scene?

LOOK AT HIS FACE

This is the first time he’s being told, and probably the first time he’s even entertaining the notion, that he’s capable of being loved for who he is and not just what he does. That he has inherent worth simply because he exists. That just… for how heavy this whole episode was, that hit me the hardest, I think.

I think this part is super cool because of the way I ended up interpreting it

Caine is seen to have a general control over the others NPCs, and if not control, they're aspects of himself that sprout into parts of the game that he's created (if that tracks at all). In a sense, if he never commanded/programmed the moon to tell him that she loved him, then that was something that was always there. I see it as Caine subconsciously telling himself that, despite everything, he still loves himself.

Hear me out:

Jerry purposely fucks up the DND games by making them too hard as a way of getting back at his shitty friends.

We see (mostly in the pilot sequence but they don’t play dnd in either that much) that the boys struggle greatly in actually defeating opponents in their campaign and overall struggle to get anything done other than argue while playing, and I think that’s because Jerry- who just like everyone else hates the other members and constantly wants to feel better than others by putting them down- makes the opponents the boys face too hard for their levels.

And I think it’s on purpose.

My theory actually kiiinda went with this? But it's moreso I think that he kind of predicted the boys to do exactly what they did: argue over eachother and not be able to defeat a powerful villain in his game.

My theory is that Jerry is aware of a concept in DnD in which the Dungeon Master creates a purposeful death—in this case, and often other cases, a boss too powerful to destroy in the beginning—in order to set the mood for the story. Usually after a bit of story, the players are strong enough to go back and fight the same evil again. (If there's a proper name for this, I'on't know it)

I think that he likely would set a story up like that, knowing that making the boys angry enough at the villain defeating them would want them to continue the story he made. If true, he might've figured that that would be the only way for them to actually get into his story without them belittling him (as much).
