Somewhere in the desert?

Normally I listen to music when I go out on missions. It passes the time better than just silence and hearing lucids yell about just about everything. Yeah, it gets old. And don’t get me wrong, I love my music, but hearing the same.. hundred or so songs DOES get old after a point.

But you see.. I got Knox to help me with one of the broken club radios. The uh.. the little handheld ones with those old looking headphones. I was excited to get ANY kind of new music, even if it was a weird genre. What we got, though, wasn’t even music. It was just a voice. A voice talking about a town.. a city? out in the desert. And it was really strange.. It talked about a “dog park” that wasn’t even meant for dogs? And there was someone with.. perfect hair. And THEN there was music for just a few minutes before the broadcast ended. There were new ones almost every week.. But there’s other life out there. I think I forgot that at some point.. Redacre isn’t the last place on Earth with life. I’m gonna keep listening into these broadcasts...

Endless

It happened again.

No.. That's not quite right. The last two times it felt like I wasn't even in my own body. This was me.

I thought hearing his voice would fix something.. Fix me. But that's not.. I don't think anything can fix me. What I see as a solution is wrong, but... No one else is doing anything to stop this. I don't care what it takes.

It took 5 of them before they started walking in pairs. I left it at that.. 5 in one night. And it brings the count to 9. They had a choice to have none of this ever happen.. Just like I made the choice to make them regret theirs. I don't care if they know it's me.

I love you. I love you more than you could ever know. Life was stolen from me when I was just a kid, and it’s because of you that I started breathing again. I thought I’d end up like my parents.. Inhuman Hunger

I always thought stalkers were interesting... Directly working for SAO-- I've seen the lengths they'll go, and I've seen the fear in the eyes of my teammates.

I tried it before, too. I kinda just wanted the jacket... And it was intimidating; the hunger to see kids I knew crumble before me like rubble. I didn't want anything to do with SAO, but I couldn't calm the exhilaration of having so much power over these kids I'd known. I felt most comfortable when they had full groups. You're not allowed to stalk people who are alone.

Someone did once-- They stalked just. me. I'm not sure why... Do I have a reputation? Maybe.. After how long I've been from home. They only got one photo before I grabbed them; I'm not exactly a fan after seeing how dangerous the feeling of it is.

Something about them being right there in front of me.. I think something snapped. Breaking the rules to do what..? Suppress me..? I was disgusted with them. If you wanted me gone, you should have done it yourself.

Why did you come..? Because you saw me on that list before..? Are you stupid? Ah... What? I'm not leaving you here... You should have known better.. But if you're here... Maybe it's a sign..? Haha, for what? I'm hungry... It hurts. It hurts... Have you ever felt so empty it hurts..? I hate it here... And I hate people like you. If I devour you.. Will it stop hurting..? I don't care... If they find out, I don't care....

-Were these nerves? Was that why he felt like he needed to throw up? His gaze wandered around the boxcar as he tried to gently shoo the feeling away.-

Mmm… Just some stuff that happened.

-Muse felt some of her own sickness creep into her throat. Did he get caught? Was he hurt again? Did SAO try to mess with him? Worry tensed her brow.-

“Like… What..?” -She gently sat down, patting the place next to her.-

-His legs refused to sit. A sickening tingle in his muscles made it impossible to do so. He smiled gently at her, an ache settling in his chest. But.. he couldn’t falter now.-

Well.. There have been times where.. -He shook his head, sighing.- I killed people. Three, specifically. I.. couldn’t say why, exactly… Anger, I guess. And I felt nothing in me… Maybe that’s why it kept happening.

A sleeper. A lucid. A stalker.

-It felt as if she were run through with a red hot lance, watching her wounds grow larger and larger, but all her nerves were dulled. There was a certain quality to that pain. It didn’t hurt, just felt like nothing.-

“O-okay.” -She tried not to think about the number.- “Okay.” -She tried not to think about the connection they had.- “That’s… That’s a thing now.” -She tried not to think about one of those being friend or family.-

-Muse looked back at him, a dust of fear coating her gaze, finally forcing her to feel.- “You…” -She took a breath, her voice surprisingly calm, if shaky.- “I know you don’t care about your family, but that could have been someone else’s. That could have been mine, or Sparrow’s, or Kyle’s.” -Muse shook her head.- “You already know how I feel about… that… s-so I won’t yell again. But… You’re not gonna do that again, right?”

-He was ready for.. honestly a much worse reaction than that. It might have been it she knew how they all died, but.. that wasn’t important. They were dead. He wasn’t. People lost family while he walked free. It was wrong, which he knew from the start. But it still felt like nothing… His parents caused this. One day he would face them again. He’d face them.. as someone better.-

I think.. I told you because… I don’t want to do it again.

“Well I’m definitely not gonna let you.” -The words flew out before she could even think, leaving her breathless. She was sharper than she wanted. Some of her bottled emotion was seeping out of the cracks. Part of her was disgusted at his actions, afraid for her life, and furious he’d dare touch her family, but it was too much to feel all at once. Like colors mixing until they formed a muddy brown, so did her emotions flow into a mess so convoluted, no one feeling could shine through enough for her to care.-

-Muse unclenched fists she didn’t know she was holding. -Stop it. It’s still Mew. It’s– HE’S still your best friend, no matter what he’s done.- “S-sorry… I’ll help you as much as I can.” -Muse shook, but her words were genuine.-

-He looked down at his hands, perplexed, as if he’d never seen them before… So small, but so capable.. Muse was mad. Of course she would be. But he felt like he’d made progress. And for the first time.. he felt exhausted.-

….Muse. You can hit me.

-Her quiet anger flipped to pure fear in a single moment. Muse closed her eyes and backed away, sitting on her hands.- “No. Last time someone said that, I almost killed them.” -As quick as it rose, her voice fell back down to normal.- “Even if I kinda want to, I won’t. …I-If I really need to, I’ll go punch a tree. But I’m fine. I don’t really wanna hurt you.”

But I’m me. And.. You can’t hurt me more than I’ve hurt you.

-All it really caused was him to stumble back slightly. Otherwise.. he wasn’t particularly bothered by it. He tilted his head to the side at her.-

“… Yeah, that’s it…” -It wasn’t, but she didn’t want to feed that urge too much. The fear of her own capabilities still haunted her, even through anger. -If he wants to stop doing this stuff… Shouldn’t I try to be an example..?-

-Muse shakilly got herself up, a new pulse running through her.- “I… I don’t wanna hurt you… anymore…” -Something about saying it aloud made it feel more credible.-

I’m sorry. I know I did really bad stuff… I wish things weren’t like this, but– It happened… I wanted to be honest with you about it..

“…I guess I appreciate the honesty…” -She took a deep breath.- “I… can’t be too mad at you… I can’t… stay that way. I’m–” -Muse’s mind flashed to her own body count; two club kids just trying to escape the Angel. She almost felt compelled to say something, but she didn’t want to gain his ire; her own was enough. She hesitated.-

“… I’ll try to help. You’re my best friend, I’m kinda… obligated to.”

-That made him laugh despite the timing not being.. the best. The response just reminded him of TID.-
