Caesurae and I are doing quite well, I hope we haven't worried anyone!
==> Our Story
"As you know I am a man with a certain passion for the freedoms of others. It takes very little coaxing to have me join a cause against any sort of oppression or slave trade or exploitive measures by the governing bodies- and others- around us.
Now to one side of our boarders we have the Emerald Basin Duchy and the Ebon Tides duchy- but on the other side of our boarders lays the Duchy that used to to be neighbors with the Emerald Basin but are ours now- The Shadowed Glade Duchy, which used to be the Verdant Glade before it was seized from Duke Everbright by Duke Nightshroud- now we didnt. I know that Everbright had had his duchy stolen from him when it happened, despite being neighbors for more than a decade, because he simply did not tell us, he fled to the summerlands, and King Oberon.
The trouble didn't start immediately- but Caesurae, my moirail, began to notice there were fewer and fewer Selkies sunning themselves along the beaches- and pixies were fleeing to the city, necessitating more housing being built- and they were certainly welcome of course, they're always welcome. - but they came to me, my pixie friends, and told me the new comers were in from our neighbors and it was looking bleak over there, they had opened up a full permanent goblin market and were taking advantage of the fact that the protections that these folks had been under were broken to capture them. Well I was. I was. Incredibly upset, I lost my head a little. - And of course my moirail encouraged me because he does love seeing me like this. I dressed myself as I did during my revolutionary days and traveled out to our neighbors market- with my moirail alongside me. And absolutely made a nuisance of myself, freeing those who had been captured, knocking things over, knocking heads together, ruining booths - and when the duke came with his redcap guards I demanded, sweat and blood running into my eyes- and I dont remember where I got that cut on my head but I remember seeing red- that he dismantle the goblin market at once, with my full chest. He laughed at me and I- well. There was a water feature next to me, and I dipped the tip of my staff into it and let my power flow into it- and it turned to blood, every bit of water in the duchy turned to blood, the well beneath the castle became blood= every faucet and glass and stream and spring, blood. I was.. not thinking terribly clearly. I told him if he did not swear to dismantle the goblin market and cease allowing the sell and trade of sapients on his land, that he would never taste water or be able to bathe again. The ah- the guards, the redcaps, they looked at me with these big round eyes- eyes as red as mine and left his side to join mine- fully his entire guard defected because they realized what I was. He had a complete melt down and fit about it but I got my way, and returned the water to normal. The Ash and Blood clan who had been his guard force deserted him and returned with me and Caesurae to the capitol and swore allegiance to me in particular- and well. They have been teaching me to master the finer points of my powers ever since- apparently I am .. their god, specifically. They're honoured to teach me, both in fighting and in healing. "
did anybody want any of this beer before i use it in slug traps or can i just give it all to @brokentoys
How much is there, pray tell? I have a giant friend who has not tried many things in life so I am interesting in procuring things for him.
==> Talk
The teamaker rolled a barrel up to the apartment inside the Heroes Castle that Magnus was using. It was on a wheely cart, so easier to push than it might have been, and full of tea, sloshing gently as he pushed it.
The room had been created by Skysmith- he'd voided floors and walls in an area where apartments above and below and beside had not been occupied, then fabricated giant furnishings for it and adjusted it it- a quick job while more suitable quarters were being created and streets widened for easy travel.
It had given Magnus his first ever real shower. There had been a learning period- but fortunately there were actual classes for this, designed for dryads and pixies and hobbs joining the city, to teach them to use the technologies inside an apartment- including things like the toilet and sink and shower, and the kitchenette. It was easier to make a giant computer pad, than it was to make a small one, so he had his own tablett- able to facetime and talk to people, and start learning his letters as well as attend classes.
Kankri puffed a bit from the exertion of pushing the tea barrel all the way here and set his hand on the lower hand print at the big door for this apartment, making it chime inside to let Magnus know he had an authorized visitor.
The ground trembled a little as his footsteps drew near and the door opened, and the giant looked down- he cleaned up well. His hair indeed was plants, but they were tamed now, and his skin was clean, and he was wearing a kilt around his hips. He broke into a smile as he saw Teamaker first and then a puzzled look at the barrel. "Merry met Kankri!- Whats this?" The giants low voice was pitched higher just for the smaller person to try to make hearing eariser. "I've brought you some tea!" Kankri called up to him, beaming, and Magnus lauged soft and low, leaning down to carefully pick up the big barrel- a cup in his hand. "Thats kind of you! You didnt have to bring that all this way- come in!" He turned and moved from the door to make room where Kankri wouldnt be stepped on, allowing the troll to join him inside the simple apartment. Kankri's wings spread out behind him and he flitted up into the air to settle onto Magnus's shoulder and make things easier on both of them- a move many pixies have performed for him in the past. "I wanted to share my tea with you! I dont imagine you get to have it often!" "You'd be right about that-" Mangus chuckled and moved carefully so he didnt dislodge Kankri, settling on the enormous couch he'd been given. "I wanted to see how you were doing since we parted!" Kankri told him with a bright smile, and watched as Magnus carefully pried the top off of the barrel and sipped at the tea. "The world has changed.. So much since the sleep came on me." He confessed. "-Its all more than I ever could have imagined.- and they say your people havent been here even fifty years the yet?" He asked. "Thats true! I myself have only been here - thirteen or fourteen years I think." Kankri told him. "Where did you ever learn to fight so well you could defeat so many Redcaps together-?" Magnus asked curiously. "Well- First Artiifex was with me, fighting as well- " "But the blood magic" Mangus said hesitantly. "Ah! Thats a story" Kankri took out his own little mug of tea from his sylladex to sit and sip tea with him. "Would you like to hear?" "I would!" "Alright then--"
==> Make a friend
Magnus examined the shiny dark scar at the side of his rib cage, carefully feeling of the shortened rib with his finger tips as he held you, and listened to you speak and explain what you knew. "When I imagined the gods, they were not so small." Magnus remarked- shifting a little, he looked around at the changed world under the moonlight, and the way that pink light sparkled off of the snow around them in the trees and on the rocks. "There are more giants- people your size, further north." Kankri offered. "But their element is water- ice particularly, not earth. I'm certain we could find some where for you to live amoung us though, if you did not mind living amoung small folk like me.- the tinest of the folk already do- and even amoung our people there are some who would come up to -" You squinted and looked him up and down. "Your thigh I think. Who already live with us- and ah, as well -" You hestated and he turned his head to look down, blinking those huge eyes curiously. "As well?" He prompted with another gust of breath- you made a mental note to keep mints on yourself at all times for the sake of the pixies who had to interact with you. You wish you had a mint to offer the big man right now. "We do have the people who hurt you, in custody- you can choose to press charges against them for what they've done." Kankri told him. His head tilted to the side. Kankri couldnt blame him- such a thing was still a wonder to him, who had been born with no justice available for him, and only death at the hands of those who ran the empire awaiting him. - though this was a very different place, he knew the giants would be considered low fae. Any faerie that wasnt decended from the Tatania and Oberon directly was considered a low fae and had no voice in the courts. -At least that had been how it was. It was changing. They were making it change.
"-I would like to think about that." He decided, speaking slowly, voice even deeper, Kankri strained to understand him. "How do we get to your home, little one?" "South and east" He pointed. "Till we hit the coast- and then along the coast past the destroyed port city on the cliff side and the forest that crashes against the mountains there until we hit the basin, the city is there." He better.. get out his tablet and make sure they knew they were coming. He clung to the giants thumb as the incredibly large man got to his feet and shook off snow and earth and looked around, then began to step, carefully, so carefully, and to walk as the ground trembled beneath him.
Nobody has made me feel safer or more respected than the filthy perverted freaks I was warned about.
==> Wake
There was a thundering drum somewhere nearby. Loud, deep, and steady, thrumming through your ears, it tried to settle into your heart and demand it match its rhythm.
The scent of blood had receded into the scent of earth freshly turned, a heady petrichor that was unexpected with the permafrost of the Winterlands, and the Coldbright duchy in particular.
The surface beneath your cheek and side was firm but giving, and not rough at all, but so warm, and your power resonated with it. The combination of unexpected and unfamiliar sensations roused you more than the gentle poke at your hip that rolled you onto your back, but it helped. Your eyes were dim now as they fluttered open and considered the stars and moon above you, before a face, big enough that it took you a moment to comprehend what you were seeing, blocked the veiw. It had chiseled and strong features, and dirt was streaked across it, caught in lashes and eyebrows, and clumped in a blanket of hair that was green with plant life growing all through- grasses and trees and vines tangled through it and clinging there like the hair itself was made of these things the way a dryads was. "-You're awake" His voice was deeper than anything Kankri had ever heard before, and was more felt in his bones than heard through his ears, but the large man smiled. - and Oh powers that breath, that, that had to be the worst thing he had ever smelled, and he'd been obliged to travel through sewers before. His gift of gab at least didnt fail him here. "Yes! I- Are- are you Magnus?" The troll yelled up, using every trick as an orator that he could to be audible. Kankri stared up with huge eyes, he - well he hadnt expected the giant to awaken, he certainly hadnt been trying for that, just to set him to rights, just to heal him. The giant's eyes went round and his eyebrows raised. "-How did you know my name small one?" "-Its a long story" He shouted up., and looked around for the pixies, relaxing as he spotted them in the air, and opened his hood for them again. "But I have the time if you do!" "Time is the only thing I know I do have." Magnus told him with a chuckle that made the ground shiver, and Kankri felt in every one of his bones.
==> Get ahold of yourself
You weren't doing anyone any good throwing up because you saw something mildly horrific. Honestly you've seen worse than a raw flesh wall that was definitely a person- People slaughtered on the streets, dying of preventable diseases, tortured- This actually was not making you feel better for some reason. You take a slow breath but the smell of blood seemed everywhere, inescapable and thick. There was a tiny hand on your neck patting you gently. "Just take a minute. Sometimes its overwhelming for everyone." The small voice of lark near his ear told him.
Your eyes close for a moment as one of the victems of these people comforted you and you straightened your shoulders and straightened up. You couldnt call Meenah, you could barely talk to her after all that had passed between the two of you in your last life, and she was the only incarnated life player. But you could heal too. It wasnt your primary power, and this would be the biggest thing you've ever tried to heal, but it was a power you had a lot of practice with. Flesh and Blood were tied together in your aspect. You let out a breath again and steeled yourself, stepping back inside and approached the wall of flesh, watching it twitch and shiver. First you grab the glass tap and grip it firmly, grunting as it stuck for a second before sliding out as you slowly stepped backward and let it clatter to the floor. Blood rushed from the hole left behind but you staunched it with a gesture and your wings spread out wide behind you to the delight of the small audience in your hood. Wings! You have wings! Like them! You raised your hands and gathered the power from your core, stepping forward to touch one of the uncut pieces of skin, and closing your blazing eyes. Your entire body glowed but you didnt see, wings fanning sparkling wing dust around you as your power made the giant glow as well, and flesh began to reknit, to fill in and heal and scar over- the rib grew slowly but not much, stunted and unable to get far as it was wrapped in flesh again. The god of blood shook, sweat pouring down his face as he continued to pour raw power into the giant who'd been cut into. His mouth opened, breath coming in pants, and then coughs as the arrow scar through his lung was irritated. The wall of flesh he was feeding power into began to tremble and everything started to move- or, was the world spinning?
You passed out inelegantly like a sack of potatoes on the floor, light headed and drained.
==> No really you gotta go check shit out
You were honestly afraid to go in that building, and freeing the pixies was an important task! -One that was over now. Hood full of pixies whispering to each other and talking quietly you turned your attention to the door and drew in a slow breath, running your fingers through your curls. "-The pixie colonies at the Capitol will make certain all of you are set up with clothing and helped to reunite with your clans, we've been trying to find as many of the little people who are trapped as we can of course- and also to arm you with weapons which are effective against larger opponents, which has been quite popular-" you spoke soft and nervously, the words rambling and pouring from your heart in their winding way as they often did. "unless of course you'd rather make your way from here yourselves though its quite cold and I imagine you'd rather have the help of your kin with this--" You drew in a deep breath as you realized you were stalling and approached the door, opening the cabin up. The scent of blood was stronger here than outside, despite the fact that the ground had become thuroughly saturated with it during the fighting. There were more light orbs, and you mentally noted them, you would need to replace them with solar ones- but you wished. You wished for a moment that you couldnt see what the back wall of this building was like. It was partitioned off into rooms- but the main room, the one which you stood in now went all the way to the back. There were two walls of shelved full of a collection of flesh and blood and bone- and before you the soil had been completely cleaned away from the sleeping giants form to expose his skin. This skin was peeled back- exposing half a rib that had already been cut down, the muscle and skin around it parsed off. A thick glass tap was bored further down the fleshy wall into it and filled with red, settled over a collection bucket like a maple sap bucket- empty now, this was where their final attack had come from. He stared for a moment and took a breath but- no that was a mistake, he turned and went back out the door for a moment to retch. There was no one but the pixies to witness his moment of weakness- he could feel one of them patting his hair now.
==> Assess the situation
You've been helping Artiifex take down a little operation, and they've left now. You watched Skysmith carry his kismesis off into the shadows after banishing the men you and Fex apprehended, leaving you in charge of the crime scene.
You somewhat wish you'd thought to ask for a bit of help out here, feeling exposed in the empty camp with its still burning fire and the slow beating of the giant's heart beneath the topsoil and trees. It was just you and him now. - Well, there were, perhaps, the little people as well- but the pixies tended to avoid the Winterlands because of the trafficking proble- oh dear. Your gaze turned to the light orbs illuminating the area around this small cabin and its outdoor cooking pit. You walked over to one and floated gently up off the ground to cup it in your hands, eyes squinted almost closed and ears perked. Yes, there it was- the tiny slow heart of a pixie in the torpor they put them into for these wretched things. You needed to be careful, breaking it could hurt the little person inside of it, and you were no mage or faerie to simply unweave the working of this magic. You produced a small knife and scored the outside all around the glass with a practiced hand, and gave it a sharp rap against the side of the building to make it break along the new weak point, carefully tilting it sideways so the pixie was cradled in half of it. You discarded the glass from the top half into a junk card in your sylladex and carefully used the very tip of your knife to cut the bonds wound around arms legs and wings, then gently healed the little man. -Still asleep. No doubt it was an enchanted sleep- well You took a breath and consentrated, fighting against the enchantment to make his heart come up to a normal waking speed, it was a struggle for a moment before you felt something give way and the little man startled and opened his eyes, little wings flickering, he touched himself, his face, his wings and stared up at Kankri. "Sh- shh- there is no danger anymore, here." Signless told him softly. "You're free, I'm going to free the others as well- What do you like to be called? I'm Teamaker." "-Lark" His voice was so small, and rough from disuse, Kankri could barely hear him. "Here Lark, ride in my hood until you feel up to flying, I'll make us all a pot of tea soon." he moved the half glass over to his hood invitingly. Lark considered for a moment as he wasnt forced into the garment, only encouraged and offered, before carefully hopping into the soft fabric and settling into it. Kankri set his eyes on the next orb.
==> Be carried off by your moirail, someone tattled
I did n9t meet tunes until we were y9ung adults… it feels s9 l9ng ag9 n9w. He ran away fr9m the empire’s h9ld t9 meet me. N9t an h9n9r I deserved, 6ut I am glad I met him. When we t99k the palace the c9ndesce fled int9 space with tunes captured. he was a helm f9r a while.
if I am needed I will 6e happy t9 help. 6ut f9r n9w I accept my place in the peace we have. I’ve lived l9nger than I ever th9ught. I am s9 , s9 tired…
I'm so glad for you that you were able to rescue him, and for him as well. Psii was
Psii was a helm for... a very very long time. More lifetimes than a gold should live. Because he trusted me and I just- Ah, Pardon, someone's at the door.
We are hus6ands. Killing the c9ndesce was fairly incidental t9 rescuing him fr9m her. Lady redglare was quite helpful with that.
I can rally pe9ple t9 my cause in a crisis 6ut that is very different fr9m the day t9 day 9f managing a planet.
My Mituna is my brother, mother and I rescued him from psi catchers who were trying to bring him back to his ship when we were both quite young, and we grew up inseparable from then on. But- you say you rescued him from the Condesce? It sounds as if things went very differently for you than for me on a number of fronts.
Crisis management is very crucial to an empire I think- you'd be surprised how much of the time appears to be spent careening from one crisis to the next of one severity or another.. You should have more faith in yourself, though I know coming from me that is more than a little humorous.
do you mean the little hover box? that's one of the xkits or dashboard plusses or whatever the hell is out now. no, they took away that damn queue button on mobile. which is where I needed it most!!
No, on desktop its built into the UI now, it isnt Xkit - I get that when I hover, when I actually click though--
I am sorry to hear about the changes to mobile that are plaguing you though. ):B
I guess
I did n9t d9 it al9ne
If anything tunes and lady redglare deserve as much if n9t m9re praise than me
as well as my m9ther f9r stepping in t9 take the reigns 9f g9vernment when I did n9t trust myself with the r9le
You call him Tunes? That makes my heart happy. -Redglare was hatched some time after my death, so I never had the pleasure of working with her on Alternia, though Kurloz regales me with stories about her at the drop of a hat of course.
Your mother is ruling? That isnt a bad choice of course, I would trust mother with most things myself- but why dont you trust yourself with the leadership of the empire? I didnt step into the role here, both because it wasn't asked of me and because well. My rebellion failed. But you, you lead them to victory, you won, why would you turn it down?
they took My fuckdang one button queue!!!!
Did they? It appears to be built into the tumblr UI now, when I attempt to reblog any post the option to queue it pops right up.
Not that I mind seeing your posts of course, its good to see some liveliness on the dash, after all, since I've been gone so long I am always afraid when I return that there will be no one left here for me to converse with.
Pe9ple think I am H9ly in a way n9 tr9ll is
any9ne c9uld have killed her. I was simply the 9ne that did.
Oh goodness, thats a lot to unpack, and I'm slightly taken aback attempting to think of where to start.
First off congratulations on the win, that is rare to achieve for us, though I had gathered that you had managed. I hadnt realized you had been the one who took her down yourself. I had always been a pacifist, myself. I wonder even now if I had the chance if I could bring myself to take it, knowing what I know. -A struggle I will not go into overly here. Not just 'anyone' could have killed Her. At least. Not our Her. Or quite a number of other 'Hers' I have known about. With a Tyrians strength and agility and thousands of sweeps of practice taking down assassins and practicing war its a daunting task. I do not think that makes you 'Holy'. I know I have always said, and I dont know if you do as well, that none of us is above the others. But you are very fortunate, and did turn the tide of the history of an entire planet. Gave hope to ... so many who would have perished or suffered under her leadership. Which is nearly everyone. --So the veneration is perhaps understandable if frustrating.
