Thoughts on Civil War
I liked this movie. It’s a better avengers film than Age of Ultron, but not as good of a Captain America film as Winter Soldier (both of which I watched the night before I saw Civil War).
It’s hard for me to keep believing the Steve / Bucky relationship. Bucky is somehow Captain America’s Kryptonite, to the point that Cap actually said as much in this film. But it’s really starting to bother me how Cap becomes so irrational when anything Bucky drops into his life. Angie Han called Bucky the “Helen of Troy of the MCU” and it’s a perfect analogy.
For a movie with Captain America’s name in the title, it’s not really clear who the main character is. Iron Man may actually have more time on screen than Cap and they are on opposing sides. You actually see more of Tony Stark’s team being built than Cap’s. And, actually, you could almost make the argument that Black Panther is the main character.
Speaking of… Black Panther was rad. I hope his stand alone film is more stealth and sneaking around. I loved how light on his feet he was.
Spider-Man really stole this movie. He was the best part and it got me really excited for his stand alone film. Additionally, I hope there is more of him paired up other heroes. This Spidy with Black Widow, would be an incredible combination.
Spoilers follow (mostly about the ending) you have been warned:
