I received a lot of kind comments on my previous Mary Marvel drawing so I wanted to try to create an actual comic with her. I’ve never done a comic like this before, but it was a lot of fun to experiment with something new!

These are conservative times, Kid.
Batman: the Brave and the Bold no. 6. “Charge of the Army Eternal,” written by J. Torres, pencils by Andy Suriano, inks by Dan Davis. The animated series Batman: the Brave and the Bold was a lighter take on Batman, teaming him up with other, sometimes obscure, DC characters and taking cues from some of the weirder elements from the 1950s and ’60s comics. This comic book series based on the cartoon sometimes utilized characters that didn’t make it to the TV show. This is one of the best.
Kid Eternity was one of the characters DC acquisitioned from Quality Comics. Noticing similarities between the character and those of the SHAZAM family of characters (acquisitioned from Fawcett Comics), the DC staff wrote him into their Earth-S. This story takes the SHAZAM parallel a step further. Instead of merely resurrecting a hero from history, Kid Eternity here becomes the hero much like Billy Batson becomes Captain Marvel.
Batman recruits the Kid to fight off different villains from history brought into the present by General Immortus in his latest failed scheme. Along the way, the Kid becomes historic DC characters like the Vigilante, the Shining Knight, Viking Prince, and G. I. Robot.
This issue was a lot of fun, partly because we don’t see enough Kid Eternity these days. I think this particular incarnation of the character would make for a really great and super-weird series.
