Regulus found himself frowning as Mary responded. “I know you can handle this by yourself, but you don’t have to. I don’t want to avenge you. I just want to… help, I guess,” he told her. If there was anyone who could handle their own problems, it was Mary. She could kick this guy’s arse all on her own. If it were Regulus, he’d probably want to handle it without involving anyone else. But that was for different reasons altogether. He gave her a serious look, “You know that it doesn’t have to right? Sometimes sadness is just sadness, and that’s alright.” All the bullshit in your life didn’t have to build character. He laughed when she insulted his house—he felt the same way about her house. “You don’t owe me anything. What are friends for?” he replied, “And we don’t have to lose our cover. Like you said, I’m a Slytherin. I can create a reason to beat this guy up without blowing our cover.”
Tensing her jaw at his words Mary started to at him with guilt-ridden eyes. “I’m sorry, Reg, I didn’t mean to put my frustration out on your or get too defensive. There are just some problems that cannot be fixed by anyone but me. Anything else would just,” she sighed loudly “cause even more chaos.” Mary shook her head as an answer to his question “I will be alright, I promise.” This might not have been the best moment to be sentimental, but just the right moment to be loving and appreciative. “He’s a Slytherin, that’s all I’m going to say, so you guys do suck,” she puffed up her cheeks like a moody child, but returned to a warm smile in seconds “Thank you for being my friend, Reg. I owe you, i really do.” Looking around the halls she realized they were still pretty much alone so she went in for a tight hug “If there’s anything I can do for you, please tell me.”
