dawnmwithey:
âMuch appreciated,â Dawn replied with a small laugh, reaching out for a treat of her own.
âYouâre very welcome,â Mary replied with a gentle grin.
thehalfbloodprince:
âNo. The ingredients are actually more expensive. Some of them can be quite rare. And this is actually a very complicated potion to brew. Itâs not one that you want to mess up. You could end up in a permanent sleep. Now I could care less but Iâm sure you do.â
Mary nodded slowly. âAlright. Then I guess Iâll take some of the already prepared potion.â
shacklebolt-kingsley:
âExactly.â Kingsley smiled broadly, responding to Maryâs comment with a nod of his head. âDifferent people, different opinions, different foolishness.â
âPrecisely,â Mary said with a laugh, nodding along with Kingsley.
shacklebolt-kingsley:
Kingsley nodded in agreement, grinning as he kept dancing with Mary. âBut then, what is foolish?â
âGood point!â Mary explained, laughing, âPeople probably have different definitions of that word.â
dawnmwithey:
âShe hears it a lot. Goes to her head,â Dawn explained â her attempt at trying to joke like normal.
âI see,â Mary replied, her smile turning kind. She could tell Dawnâs heart wasnât completely in the joke, but there was no harm in playing along. âDonât worry. Iâll keep my compliments to myself.â
thehalfbloodprince:
âOf course. But, a Calming Draught is an extremely complicated potion to brew. One simple mistake and you could end up sleeping for the rest of your life. And I donât think you want that. I suggest you buy it already brewed to avoid any mishaps. I just made a batch, in fact.â He moved to a shelf a few aisles over. âThereâs plenty. Help yourself.â
Mary pursed her lips in thought for a moment, silently considering the potion that Severus had brewed. âIs it more expensive to buy a potion already prepared?â she finally asked, âIâve been trying to save money...â Ever since Lily had moved out, Maryâs expenses had doubled. She had yet to find a flatmate to replace her best friend, so sheâd been paying the rent all by herself.
dawnmwithey:
âDonât let her hear you say that.â
âAnd why not?â Mary asked with a somewhat confused smile.
shacklebolt-kingsley:
âHonestly, I prefer way more to just enjoy myself and the music rather than worry about how I look while I dance,â Kingsley said, his laugh joining Maryâs. âI mean, unless you donât have a reason to do it, watching yourself dancing, well, it kind of spoils the fun.â
âI couldnât agree more,â Mary replied brightly, âWorrying that you might look foolish ruins the experience.â With that statement, she twirled herself under Kingsleyâs arm, grinning as they continued to move with the music.
carolyn-wilkes:
âNo? And, tell me, what do you think?â Carolyn leaned a little further toward Mary, a slight teasing note in her voice, a glint of vivid amusement in her eyes. âAh, a fellow Gryffindor? Nice. And yes, precisely that. Hours and hours of planning and plotting, assessing strategies and tactical analysis,â she joked in return, laughing. âNever a reckless action.â
âWell, honestly, I think you have to be at least a little bit pushy, right? If youâre overly polite all the time, you wonât get many answers. As long as youâre not pushy in a rude or disrespectful way, I think itâs fine,â Mary said with a small shrug, âUs Gryffindors do always look before we leap, donât we?â
thehalfbloodprince:
âDid you simply come to browse potions? If so, I would recommend reading the label before touching. Potions are not toys.â
Mary put down what sheâd been holding and stepped away from the shelf it had been placed on. âSorry,â she said, although there was a small hint of annoyance in her voice, âI know theyâre not toys. I was looking for the ingredients to brew a Calming Draught. Do you have those here?â
shacklebolt-kingsley:
âA mirror, yes, or a video recording,â Kingsley suggested with a shrug. âMaybe a tiny bit,â he said chortling. âIâve never done it, but donât dancers practice in front of a mirror?â
âOh, yes, youâre right,â Mary said, laughing once at her own expense, âI had completely forgotten that. But Iâve never danced professionally, so Iâve never done it, myself.â
mulcimperius:
Now that he was there, Mulciber wasnât sure what had brought him. Mary Macdonald hadnât crossed his mind in a long while, but there was something about the October night that had drawn him to her, that propelled him to cross the street and close the distance between them. If only he could figure out what it was.
But he had time.
âWalk with me.â And then, with a twist of his wand, he ensured that she had no choice but to do exactly that.
Inwardly, Mary knew she ought to shout or to reach for her wand as Usi Mulciber drew closer to her. But all she could do was shrink backward, almost as though she were trying to disappear altogether. When he spoke she was only struck with confusion. Why on earth would he think she would walk anywhere with him? But then she felt itâthat familiar haziness she hadnât felt since her fifth year in schoolâand she knew immediately what was happening.
It was as if she was out of her body. Mary could see and hear what was happening around her, but everything was foggy, like she was gazing through frosted glass. She felt her feet moving of their own accord. There was absolutely nothing she could do now but let it happen.
