A comfortable silence fell between them as Thorin combed out a few of the longer strands of Bilbo’s hair and began to braid them neatly. The texture was so different from his own, finer and sleeker even without the help of oils. Where his own hair kinked and curled in different places along the strand, Bilbo’s curved, though admittedly each in different direction from its neighbouring lock. Braiding hair like this took a little more planning, or else the braid itself would twist. After a few moments he opened the little clasp on the bead he’d forged and clamped it around the bottom of the braid, snapping it closed.
@yubiwamonogatari requested me to draw this lovely scene from their most recent Azhâr chapter as their patreon reward!
you should all go read Azhâr, it’s the greatest slow burn in the 21st century!!!🌟
☀️for helping out with the Have a Happy Hobbit Holiday 2017, and being a lovely patron of mine, @ahiddenkitty was rewarded a request, and she asked for a remake of this pic of mine! ☀️
it was such a joy to redraw, especially because the original was such an indulgent shippy fun picture of mine! great memories! and I feel like I’ve grown as an artist since then, much more patient and careful (I think!)
Insight: ‘The Misty Mountains Cold’ is a recruiting song, either composed in the last couple decades before Thorin set out on his quest, or adapted for this purpose from a much older song by the addition of the ‘-we must away ere break of day-’ verses.
Now, we know from ‘Crack the plates’ that Dwarves can create personalized songs at the drop of a hat, but what about that song was specific to the party at Bag End? They could put any reluctant but well-stocked host or innkeeper’s name in for Bilbo’s, and having an amusing song and the ability to quickly wash dishes afterwards may have gotten the Dwarves many a free meal when they needed it in the past. The actual-historical round song (English? Renaissance-era, maybe?)‘ Heigh Ho, Nobody Home ‘, has a similar purpose:
Best argument for Bagginsshield I know:
In The Fellowship of the Ring, Gimli son of Gloin was very surprised to learn that Thorin had given Bilbo a Mithril chainmail shirt.
Think about that.
Imagine Thorin Oakenshield (HobbitDragon version) fucking pissed because a group of men had been calling Kili his nephew before the baby was old enough to talk, and he’s worried that the humans may have confused his sister’s (as yet gender-undeclared) kid.
Fortunately, Kili didn’t understand Westron at the time either.

Last part of the Chapter 13 drawings. You really should go read Touch, it’s beautiful and heartbreaking and possibly the best Hurt/Comfort thing out there
I got a lot of unexpected feels for these two (particularly after reading "Touch,“ after which couldn’t get over the idea of Nori with back scars.)
They’re enemies in public; after all, they’re on opposite sides of the law. They’re rough in bed, all curses and aggression in pursuit of pleasure. But they lay curled together in the quiet hours before they need to face the world again, and sometimes they talk, and sometimes Dwalin helps patch any of Nori’s new scars, and sometimes Nori lets Dwalin stroke his hair (after Nori’s unbraided it and removed the hidden weapons).
And they realise that by now they know and trust one another more than almost anyone else. They’re not quite sure what to think about that.
